Hi everyone made a new thread for all the ladies due end of March beginning of April 2022. We are coming to the end of the first trimester, some of you have already crossed that important milestone! Some are starting to get bumps and sickness could be leaving, has anyone got that 'glow' yet... fat chance

How’s everyone doing? I’ve been a little quiet recently as really starting to struggle with the combination of work and an almost 3 year old.

I’ve got 6 weeks left before taking 2 weeks annual leave followed by maternity leave. Those 6 weeks may as well be 6 months right now. I’ve had to take a last minute holiday today as can barely function given the lack of sleep I’m experiencing. Sometimes it’s to do with restless legs (so completely sympathise with PP) or just that I’m so uncomfortable in general.

My job is super stressful at the best of times but even more so when I know that I’ve mentally checked out yet trying to paint a face on to my line manager that I’m still ‘on it’

Derbee · 17/01/2022 10:11

The leg thing at night is awful! Really sympathise with everyone. I’ve been having a bit of a stressful time - diagnosed with “borderline” gestational diabetes, so having to test bloods 4x a day and attend diabetes clinic etc. We get 2 extra growth scans, and will need to discuss birth options with the consultant. I keep trying to remind myself that once our baby is here, the journey doesn’t matter. But it’s hard some days!

Hope everyone is doing ok. We’re getting closer to meeting our babies!

Nats7504 · 17/01/2022 10:20

@bubblybrit I feel the same, I’m absolutely shattered and still have 6 weeks left in work. I don’t have a toddler to contend with so you have it much tougher. I’d forgotten how hard the last few months are! Zero sleep and carrying the extra weight and bump around are tough. Roll on March and April when we have our little babies in our arms 🥰

Just a quick question. When do people usually pick up their prams/car seats? Ours are currently being stored in the shops warehouse until we need them. It’s about an hours drive away. I’m 31 weeks and was thinking of collecting it about 36/37 weeks. Is that too early?

@Derbee Sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed with borderline GD. Did you have any symptoms? I think another lady on this thread said she had been diagnosed with GD too.

els96 · 17/01/2022 11:14

Thank you all for the tips! I will definitely try the banana and tonic! I was stretching last night about 1am but didn't realise how unbalanced I am now 🤣I have a wonderful sleep in till around now (oops!) when my partner gets up for work but just cannot fall asleep on a night! Also baby has been in frank breech position on last few scans - latest was 28 weeks. Is anyone else's baby in this position? I know there's time to move but not convinced as he's not moved in the last 3 scans 😩 xx

Derbee · 17/01/2022 12:24

@Nats7504 no symptoms at all! Just had the GTT and my result was 7.8. Needs to be under 7.8 to count as a “normal” result… but now that I’m testing regularly, I can see that I can’t tolerate breakfast cereal at all. So although I was close to the limit, I suppose it’s better to be being monitored, just in case.

I thought I remembered someone else being diagnosed, but couldn’t remember who.

Catconfusion · 17/01/2022 16:55

How is everyone getting on?

Sorry to hear you’ve got borderline GD. I hope it doesn’t affect your diet too much and you’re getting lots of positive support.

I had my growth scan last week and baby girl is looking extremely big. At 28 weeks she’s estimated to be 4 lbs and 99.8 centile 🙂. We had similar with her brother so it wasn’t a big shock. I just wondered if she’d be a bit smaller being a girl. Turns out she’s a little bigger. The consultant was really reassuring and happy to refer us for another elective section. I have arthritis and I’m over 40 so other risk factors too. Just hoping I get a date for it soon. Xx

bubblybrit · 17/01/2022 17:56

Oh it can’t come quick enough @Nats7504. My DD is going through a phase of not wanting to sleep at the moment so think that’s adding to the exhaustion. I’ve spent most of the day between my bed and lying on the sofa. Feel super lazy but it’s given me some energy to run around after my DD now she’s home from nursery!

MiracleBaby2022 · 17/01/2022 19:25

@Catconfusion oh wow, that is one big girl! At my 28th week scan my girl was estimated to be 2lb 9oz / 1,169 grams - which is 40th percentile.

I'm starting to struggle a bit with the bump, it's so uncomfortable when I lie down and the pain under my rib cage is still there, so I have to sort of prop myself up in a seated position in bed in order to get any sleep. Anyone else struggling to lie down?

Catconfusion · 18/01/2022 17:18

@MiracleBaby2022 sounds like a perfect size.

Yes she’s definitely looking big. Her head is measuring 30cm already! I think we just make big babies. I’m just hoping she stays in and waits for my section date.

I was really struggling but got a great big pregnancy pillow and that’s helped a lot. As long as I can hook my leg over it, I can get comfortable. I hope you find a good position and can lie down again. Definitely get a special pillow if you haven’t already. Xx

theconfused · 18/01/2022 18:57

@Derbee @Dyra Thank you so much for your suggestions regarding the antenatal I'll definitely be looking at those! Feels so annoying with everything being over zoom, wouldve loved to make some friends due around my time too!!

Does anyone have any recommendations about car seats, does the "brand" matter?

Dyra · 18/01/2022 23:43

@Derbee Oh that's rough. Everything crossed your sugars stay normal with only minor diet control. Looks like it was bubblepond who has GD. Speaking of GD, did you manage to get a GTT done, or a blood test @theconfused?

@Nats7504 If you have space to store them, then why not? The car seat can be stored in the car at the very least. Pram I guess doesn't need to be unboxed straight away.

theconfused Brand doesn't especially matter. But if buying a not so popular brand (not sold in UK stores), I'd want to put in a bit of research to make sure they do meet all UK regulations. Personally, I like Nuna, but there's plenty of options out there.

As for type of car seat, my preference was a removable car seat (stage 0-1 iirc) so you can get baby in and out of the car without waking them. Even if you don't use it as part of a travel system, it's bloody handy. Then invest in an extended rear facing car seat for toddlerhood. Not got beyond that point yet, but the next step after that is a forward facing seat, which should last up until they meet the height requirements to no longer need a booster seat.

Dyra · 19/01/2022 00:02

And one more thing. If there really is a link between heartburn and hair on a newborn, then this baby, that is currently trying to punch through my cervix (seriously... please stop it), will be coming out looking like the bastard love child of Chewbacca and Cousin It.

Derbee · 19/01/2022 00:53

@theconfused We’ve chosen the Cybex Cloud Z car seat. The base rotates, to make it easier to get the baby in and out. The car seat folds flat, so the baby can safely be in it for longer than other car seats, when it’s on the pram travel system.

@Dyra thanks, sugars all seem to be good, during this whole week of testing. Only thing that’s caused bad spikes is breakfast cereal, so that’s our for the next few weeks!

MiracleBaby2022 · 19/01/2022 09:03

@Catconfusion yes luckily I bought one of those really long pregnancy pillows quite early on, wouldn't get any sleep whatsoever without it!

Fingers crossed your girl stays in until due date 🤞🏼

Nats7504 · 19/01/2022 10:19

@Catconfusion She is a big girl, you must be giving her all the good stuff. 😊 I love chubby babies 😍 maybe not the giving birth to one bit though 🙈 I’ve got my 32 week growth scan on Monday, he was 2lb 10oz at 28 weeks so I’ll be interested to see how much he’s grown!

@theconfused I’ve gone for the Cybex Cloud Z like @Derbee It’s quite pricey but for the sake of my back and the fact you can lie baby down flat sold it to me. It attaches to my pram too!

@Dyra I was told baby had lots of hair at my 4d scan but no heartburn to match. Although I get what I think is indigestion but maybe it’s that 🤷🏻‍♀️
I called to pay the balance on the pram and car seat yesterday and arranged to collect middle of Feb. I’ll store the car seat here but MIL can keep the pram until we need it. (Sadly superstitious)

@derbee Glad you’re managing it ok. I need my cereal in the morning to keep my somewhat regular when it comes to the toilet. I only go about twice a week as it is 🙈

@MiracleBaby2022 Sleep buggered off weeks ago for me. Combination of the bump, needing a wee and the awful hot flushes that have joined the party!

theconfused · 19/01/2022 11:28

@Derbee @Nats7504

Ah thank you! I knew I'd want a 360 rotating one but wow that recline looks so good!

theconfused · 19/01/2022 11:29

@Dyra ah thank you, I'll definitely be researching about that!

Scoaf · 19/01/2022 11:29

Hi Everyone.
Sorry to hear everyone is struggling.
I too have horrendous heartburn so im also thinking hairy baba same as you @Dyra
We have also bought the Cybex cloud Z car seat as i struggle with a bad back so the swivel really appealed to me.
I had a bit of a scare this morning, went swimming as usual and was feeling bit more tired than usual so got out and had a sit down in the changing room, felt a bit better so got up to get in the shower, had a shower, came out to get dressed to head to work and then woke up on the floor, completely starkers may i add 😱
All ok, currently in bed resting but think it may have been my bodys way to tell me to slow down.
Anybody packed their hospital bag yet? Im 30+2 now and feeling like i want to pack, am i way too early? X

Dyra · 19/01/2022 11:58

@Scoaf Shock Oh my goodness how scary! Were you found by anyone? No bumps (other than the obvious one) or bruises? Have you talked to your midwife? You're not Rh- are you? Just in case you whacked your bump on the floor when you went down you might need a jab. Was it a hot shower btw? I very, very, very nearly fainted taking a hot shower when I was pregnant with DD. I think that plus the medication I was on had lowered my BP to the point I knew if I didn't take action I was going to faint. Glad you're taking the day off work and you're ok. Rest, relax, and definitely take it easy for the rest of today.

Mine's nearly packed. Just need to get some baby clothes down from the loft. Or have a shopping expedition. Grin

Scoaf · 19/01/2022 12:35

@Dyra
No just me in there at the time. I could feel myself going but couldnt stop it.
Got a good egg on the side of my head and backs a little sore but nothing else luckily.
Yes i am RH-, Spoke to triage and because i woke up on my back and no pain in bump or anything she said i don't need the jab, just keep an eye our for pain or bleeding. Baba is still wriggling away and doing flips in there.
It wasnt a particularly hot shower. But Gp said because i had just been swimming that probably lowered my BP then the warm shower probably just made it go a bit too low. I did a big walk yesterday and didnt have a great nights sleep so probably just overdone it a bit.
Ah great ill use that as an excsue to do mine then 🤣 how many bags have you got?

MiracleBaby2022 · 19/01/2022 13:18

@Scoaf oh crikey, that sounds scary! My BP was low before pregnancy and it's definitely causing some issues now that it's even lower, but haven't fainted yet! Glad you didn't hurt the bump, I'm Rh negative too and I'm constantly worrying about getting hit or kicked when I go swimming in our overcrowded pool!

Ha, I've been wondering if it was way too early to start packing too, but given all the replies I'm going to use you all as an excuse to start packing mine too. I've been wanting to do it for ages. I think it'll be huge though, am I the only one who's got a massive list?? 🙈

Nats7504 · 19/01/2022 13:29

@Scoaf Oh dear. That sounds scary! Glad baby is moving around ok and apart from the bump on the head you’re ok. I’d defo find that a good enough excuse to stop being healthy and exercising 🤣

No labour bag packed yet, not even made a list 🙈 I’m still in a little bit of denial that this baby needs to come out!

Dyra · 19/01/2022 14:18

I've just got the one. A smallish carryon suitcase. All things going well firmly crosses everything while touching wood, I'm not anticipating needing to stay this time.

Countingchicks · 19/01/2022 14:18

No bag packing here yet, mainly as I haven't got much of the stuff yet! Better do a trip to boots later for some bits
