I know you all love these ones! My daughter is due in February, and she is, so far, nameless. By this stage, ds had had his name for ages, but am finding a girl's name much more of a challenge. I want something reasonably distinctive, with some history to it, and perhaps a little glamour too.
Dh has sternly vetoed my first choice, Angelica. His favourite names are Frances and Olivia, which I like....but are they 'the one'.
Other names in the frame include Nina, Edith, Livia, Lucy, Elizabeth, Catherine, Phoebe, Mia and Viola.
Any more for any more?

Like Flora (dh thinks of margarine though!) and Emmeline is too close to my stepdaughter's name - I sometimes call her that for fun anyway.
Dh very fond of Edith (Edie).

aloha, i like your original thoughts of Lucy

aloha · 06/01/2005 10:38

He also really likes Matilda, which I do like, but am not sure I absolutely LOVE. This is SO difficult!

popsycal · 06/01/2005 10:39

dh likes matilda too

There are lots of names I like... did anyone else see their baby and immediately thought of a name that was either on a long shortlist or they'd never thought of before??

why am i thinking of just girls names though......

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:40

Our rabbit was called Lucy

aloha · 06/01/2005 10:40

Yes, I still like Lucy! I like all the names in the Narnia books, I think.

flora is lovely. we couldn't have any F's because of our surname...
i know a baby who's called libby, not sure if it's short for anything. what about lilian?

Fimbo · 06/01/2005 10:42

My SIL was going to call her dd Ellis which I thought was a bit boyish. There is also Emmie another take on Emmeline.

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:42

We couldn't have an H because of ours. Harriet is nice.

nailpolish · 06/01/2005 10:43

libby is short for elizabeth

PicadillyCircus · 06/01/2005 10:43

I know a baby called Libby. Her long name is Eizabeth.

Fennel · 06/01/2005 10:43

even Eustace?

all the susans I know loathe the name "sensible susan" - eg in Narnia, or Swallows and Amazons, she's always the boring one.

Leogaela - how about Emil, or Rufus?

PicadillyCircus · 06/01/2005 10:43

Or even Elizabeth

bundle · 06/01/2005 10:43

our rabbits were called gilbert & percy...do you think they're due for a renaissance? what about harriet?

aloha · 06/01/2005 10:44

Lilian isn't for me. Don't really know why. I suppose I hate the idea of Lil as a name. No variant on Emmy would do for us!

My middle name is Susan. I find it very dull.

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:44

I think Elizabeth is brill. You can do so much with it. And it's a great Sunday name for telling off with!

Leogaela · 06/01/2005 10:45

Thanks Janh - I'll have a look.

I was convinced mine is a girl as I could only think fo girls names. now i've changed my mind and think its a boy just because we can't find a boys name.

Back to the question someone asked - did you have names before the child was born or were you inspired when you saw the child?
