I know you all love these ones! My daughter is due in February, and she is, so far, nameless. By this stage, ds had had his name for ages, but am finding a girl's name much more of a challenge. I want something reasonably distinctive, with some history to it, and perhaps a little glamour too.
Dh has sternly vetoed my first choice, Angelica. His favourite names are Frances and Olivia, which I like....but are they 'the one'.
Other names in the frame include Nina, Edith, Livia, Lucy, Elizabeth, Catherine, Phoebe, Mia and Viola.
Any more for any more?

When we were expecting DD1 - first baby - I had a multitude of delightful girlie names lined up like Miranda and Lucinda and Belinda. DH wanted Carol or Alison or Stephanie. WTF???? We ended up with Jessica purely because it hadn't been mentioned yet and one of the nurses we used to see agreed that it was nice.

Men!

lowcalCOD · 05/01/2005 21:24

I like it

Leogaela · 06/01/2005 10:07

Sofia, elena, Zoe are quite nice (but I'm keeping my favourites to myself just in case its a girl!)

BBC published top 10 names for newborns yesterday

Loads of nice girls names, but what about BOYS!!! We are really stuck with them.

we are looking for something completely unreligious, simple, not too popular or standard, has to work in German (Swiss) and English... any ideas????

Leogaela · 06/01/2005 10:18

OK what did I do wrong when I entered the link????

try again!

Doh!

aloha · 06/01/2005 10:19

My half-Swiss friend called her baby boy Luca, which I like.

Just had a flash of inspiration
Martha Rose

suzywong · 06/01/2005 10:21

Derek, Barbara, Pat and Roger

They will be the next set of names to make a fashionable comeback, mark my words

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:21

Don't forget Audrey and Clive.

bundle · 06/01/2005 10:22

there's a LOT of lucas in norf london.

Leogaela · 06/01/2005 10:23

Luca is a nice name, but too popular here at the moment (I think it is no. 1 for boys and has been for a few years). Also I have a personal reason (or mistake) to give it a miss......!

Rose is nice (for a girl), not convinced about Martha.

Fimbo · 06/01/2005 10:23

I know a Liberty and Portia. My dd is Rachel but I love the name Libby.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 06/01/2005 10:24

Ooh, I like Flo. What about Flora? Or Emeline? (another suffragette name). I like Miranda too.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 06/01/2005 10:26

Ha ha at Suzywong. My dad was called Derek and dp believed me for about 5 minutes when I said if this one was a boy I'd really like to name it Derek in his memory. Dp squirmed but was so tactful as he explained why he wasn't keen, bless him!

suzywong · 06/01/2005 10:26

Yes Jan, Clive aswell and I see you missed out on Carol, that'll be a teen fave in 15 years, you just wait and see

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:27

This thread might help you, Leogaela - SenoraPostrophe wanted a name that would work in English and Spanish - lots of suggestions and I assume many would be OK in German too. (She ended up with Lucas though!)

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:28

Carol was one DH wanted. And Christine! LOL!

bundle · 06/01/2005 10:29

dh wanted caroline (apologies to any carolines..) - it was his cat's name when he was a little boy, ffs!

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:32

How about David, Leogaela? I have a Scottish friend who lives in Germany and her son is David. (Her daughters are Elizabeth and Catriona - that wouldn't work in German though!)

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:32

Caroline is OK actually!

bundle · 06/01/2005 10:33

oh gawd, really didn't mean to offend, just Caroline wasn't for me...

bundle · 06/01/2005 10:33

(it was more to do with it being their cat's name..)

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:36

It's funny though how Carol and Christine are not OK and Caroline is (except when inherited from cat obv!)

JanH · 06/01/2005 10:37

For babies, I mean (hastily added before I offend somebody!)

popsycal · 06/01/2005 10:37

oooh i quite like martha
