I know you all love these ones! My daughter is due in February, and she is, so far, nameless. By this stage, ds had had his name for ages, but am finding a girl's name much more of a challenge. I want something reasonably distinctive, with some history to it, and perhaps a little glamour too.
Dh has sternly vetoed my first choice, Angelica. His favourite names are Frances and Olivia, which I like....but are they 'the one'.
Other names in the frame include Nina, Edith, Livia, Lucy, Elizabeth, Catherine, Phoebe, Mia and Viola.
Any more for any more?

My kids names were picked before they were born - really struggled with boys names though and decided upon Adam as my dd was learning to read and write at the time and thought it would be easy for her!!

popsycal · 06/01/2005 10:50

I like the Scottish ones too Nailpolish-Finlay is lovely but my dh didn't like it. I knew a couple of Ramsay's as well, but my dad has a ramsay ladder in his loft

nailpolish · 06/01/2005 10:58

there are a million Finn's around here - and Finlay's

nailpolish · 06/01/2005 10:58

nailpolish · 06/01/2005 11:01

what about Kirstie - great scottish girls name (and my dd2's!)

Melanie
Melissa

bakedpotato · 06/01/2005 11:03

girl names i'd be thinking seriously about if it weren't for blinking DH (and, actually, his surname, which is already pretty fusty): Violet, Nancy, Lilian

Names DH would go for if it weren't for blinking me:
Venetia

boys names are a cinch by comparison. one frontrunner from the moment i weed on the stick.

bakedpotato · 06/01/2005 11:04

and lockets, you keep posting it!

Fimbo · 06/01/2005 11:06

Bakedpotato-My Mil is Violet and hates it with a passion especially as people try to shorten it to Vi which is even worse in her opinion. Then of course there is Violet Incredible (who has secretly started to live with us in the guise of my six year old dd!!)

bakedpotato · 06/01/2005 11:08

yes, i can see abbreviating violet, which is bound to happen, would be problematic. but oh, such a lovely name

JanH · 06/01/2005 11:09

Not forgetting Violet Elizabeth Bott ("I'll thcweam and thcweam until I'm thick!")

Leogaela · 06/01/2005 11:11

How would Maxim for a boy sound in the UK at the moment?
