Glad you're good @CherLW! It's an amazing time isn't it? We're good too. So happy and loving being a Mummy! Hettie is wonderful and I can spend ages just holding and looking at her! Still cannot believe it.
She's doing great but just having to go to hospital for a jaundice check. Hoping her level will be OK and we can come straight back home but we'll see...

CherLW · 07/09/2021 15:08

@AdventuresAwait it’s the most amazing time, I couldn’t be happier! I just want to spend all my time with him! I spend so much time just looking at him… I’ll never get anything done ever again!
Hopefully the jaundice check goes ok! Jesse has jaundice too but quite a low level. He couldn’t be discharged from the midwife yesterday as she wants to check on him again next week… I’m glad tho as puts my mind at rest knowing they will check again. X

@CherLW, I agree. We're hoping her levels will be below the limit for treatment but we will see what the blood test shows. The home test was just above but they said the blood test is more accurate. But if she needs treatment, at least we will know and can get it sorted xx

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 07/09/2021 15:39

Just had my 34 week appointment (I’m 35 weeks tomorrow).
They’re happy with everything expect my numbers being too low and I need to eat more carbs
Honestly, the balancing act is just impossible.

On the plus, I got my first good scan picture so actually paid for it to be printed 😂

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken, ahh lovely picture and glad everything is good.

@CherLW, her bilirubin level was below the level at which treatment is needed so we are on our way home... yay!

CherLW · 07/09/2021 17:17

@AdventuresAwait woo that’s good! So glad you’re on the way back home, that’s great news 💕 x

I hope its okay to join/gatecrash this thread..

I had my GTT Tuesday (I'm 26 weeks) I've not heard anything from the hospital since and wondered how long it took you to get your results back?

The issue is.. my fasting reading was 9.2 and they couldn't go on to complete the GTT was were not allowed to give me the glucose drink. So just took the one sample and said someone would contact me to discuss results.

I've assumed, after looking at the nice guidelines that means I'll be told I've got GD. Has anyone else been in a simular situation? What happens next? I'm obviously quite worried..

Nice guidelines also suggest I may need to go on Insulin so I was just looking for people's experiences of how things went.. and some support. I'm definitely someone who panics over everything and does better knowing what mignt happen... Good or bad along the way in advance so I can mentally prepare myself for it..

I don't know anyone else with GD so finding a topic with people I can talk to has just become the highlight of my day!

AdventuresAwait · 10/09/2021 11:21

Hi @Taenia.
I was also diagnosed at 26 weeks and am now sitting here feeding my week old daughter Smile.

I heard from the diabetic team the same day and an appointment made to get my monitoring machine. Soon after I started tablets and then insulin to lower my fasting levels.

I was dreading it all. The finger prick tests, change in diet, insulin... but it was all fine. It became part of my daily routine and, after birth, all went back to normal.

Don't get me wrong, I was overwhelmed, worried and frustrated at first. But it was fine and the team were great.

I had consultant appointment and growth scans so got to see baby more & they wanted her here before 39 weeks.

I totally understand it's scary and the unknown is difficult but I found that each step was fine & much better than I expected Smile.

Happy to answer any questions xx

Taenia · 12/09/2021 21:13

Hi @AdventuresAwait

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me and give me reassurance. I really appreciate it. Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you I'm away with family in Cornwall and have limited phoned signal.

Hospital phoned Friday and have my first appointment with the GD clinic on Wednesday.

Moominmiss · 13/09/2021 09:48

Congrats to all the new amazing mamas!!!
It’s amazing to see all the pictures and hear the birth stories.

I thought I’d update that I had my little boy on 3rd September at 37+4 via elcs. His name is Dexter!

He weighed 7lb 5oz so a little chunk considering he was 2.5 weeks early.

His blood sugars were perfect after birth and even got a perfect 10/10 on his apgar score.

I had him at 9.50am, the section itself took a while, mostly sorting me out once he was born, I was sterilised at the same time, and lost a lot of blood, but all turned out fine. We were back in recovery by 11.30am and he was feeding like a champ. No need for the colostrum I’d managed to collect.

Back up on the ward by 1.30/2pm. My partner could have stayed the night with us but we have dogs that he needed to get back for, so he left at about 10.30pm and returned the next morning around 9am.

We were given the ok to go home after the doctors had finally done their rounds to check on the baby, so we ended up leaving hospital at 5pm on 4th.

10 days old today and he’s just a dream! Feel so unbelievably lucky. He has to have an ultrasound scan at 6 weeks as I was born with clicky hips. My other children all had to have the scan too, but we’re all fine. There are no indications that Dexter has it, but they have to scan.

He only lost 7% of his birth weight so that was good. He had looked a little jaundiced on day 3 but his levels were still well below the level for treatment so we had plenty of walks in the day light to rectify that. His levels are much better now.

Basically to sum it up, he’s a dream, I’m fine, and my partner and I are just enjoying every second in our little baby bubble!

So lovely seeing all the lovely babies ❤️

AdventuresAwait · 13/09/2021 13:22

Congratulations @Moominmiss! And welcome lovely Dexter 🙂 xx

That's great @CherLW! How are you doing? Xx

It's so lovely to hear everyone's news after sharing our GD journeys together xx

Bubbles1st · 13/09/2021 13:45

@Moominmiss congratulations- love his name!

@CherLW that's great gain! We are at day 13 still having extra weight monitoring for Lorenzo. He was 7lb. 3 oz at birth and dropped to 6lb 10 oz currently 6lb 12oz

Health visitor isn't coming back until next Wednesday so really hoping we can achieve birth weight and beyond by then!

CherLW · 13/09/2021 16:29

@AdventuresAwait I’m not good bad, everything to do with Jesse is perfect… just a few issues with his dad but I’m sure things will settle eventually. How are you doing? You’re right, it’s lovely to hear how everyone is now the GD is finally gone!

@Bubbles1st I always think I’m happy as long as it’s going up 😊 how is Lorenzo doing? I’m sure he will be fantastic for next Wednesday 😍 xx

OP posts:
Bubbles1st · 13/09/2021 16:47

@CherLW sorry to hear few issues with his dad, However I'm sure you're not surprised, how about with his mum?

Lorenzo is perfect thank you, short of getting upset over a dirty nappy he is very content, sleeping and feeding well. I suspected he had jaundice and today the health visitor agreed despite it already having cleared up, his gums are still yellow. So he will be feeding better as a result and confident he will have a great weight gain 🥰

Needingsupportplease · 13/09/2021 18:20

Hi ladies hope you're all ok and those that have had babies are well! I've been referred for an urgent GTT which the receptionist said she was sorting.. just wondered how long this would take/did take for you? TIA

AdventuresAwait · 13/09/2021 20:57

@CherLW, glad Jesse is doing great. Sorry to hear you've had some issues with his Dad. I was thinking of you and wondering... hoping things will get easier. I'm good thanks. Loving this new chapter & can spend ages just watching my little girl, amazed that I'm a Mum. I get emotional but I'm told that's expected and, overall, I couldn't be happier. Midwife came today and Hettie is now back to her birth weight & her bilirubin levels have dropped massively so her jaundice is clearing well without treatment. Can't believe we're now on day 11. Pregnancy seems like a long time ago 😂 xx

@Needingsupportplease, my test was routine so booked well in advance so I can't help sorry but, as it's urgent, I'd imagine they'll see you very quickly.

CherLW · 13/09/2021 21:07

@Bubbles1st I knew things would be difficult with babies dad but I’m hoping it settles. The babies dads mum (sounds like a soap story doesn’t it 😂) still thinks Covid isn’t real so still hasn’t seen the baby!

That’s excellent news the jaundice has cleared up. Jesse still has a yellow tinge to his skin and eyes but it’s low level so they aren’t concerned.

@AdventuresAwait I’m surprising myself really, I’m coping surprisingly well with doing the majority of everything on my own. Thank you for thinking of me ❤️
I’m the same, I spend so much time just watching him, I love being a mum so so much! I just feel so lucky he’s now in my life, love him so much!
That’s so good about Hetties jaundice too, such a relief to know they won’t need treatment isn’t it!

I definitely still have thoughts about missing my bump too, I think where Jesse arrived 8 days early it was a shock so never felt that adjustment of getting ready for his arrival! But now he’s he’s here I couldn’t be happier ❤️

Firevie · 14/09/2021 06:48

@Moominmiss congratulations on your bundle of joy! He looks adorable! All the best for the next few weeks!
@CherLW sorry to hear about dad issues but I’m sure you’re handling it all perfectly and all in jesse’s favour!!
It’s so lovely to hear about all your healthy babies!! Who is next in our group??
I am 35+5 today and have my 36week scan on Thursday hoping he’s jumped back to 50th centile and I’m trying to move him head down as he’s comfortably lying transverse lol
Can’t believe it that I’ve got just under 5weeks to go! Xxx

Bubbles1st · 14/09/2021 09:41

@CherLW well More fool her for even bringing her opinion in to it. Just take a test and be bloody careful and see your grandson - how hard can that be!

I've had a panic this week about friends wanting to visit whose kids have gone back to school. Yesterday's friend did a LFT and came alone and I'm hoping my other friends can spend time mostly in the garden of the sun comes back out later this week.

It's awkward and I'm surprised I feel so anxious as I do but then priorities change with a baby!!

PineappleSun · 14/09/2021 13:12

I had a sweep yesterday and was up all night last night with cramping, hoping this is early labour and he'll come before induction on Saturday, 38+3 today 🤞

CherLW · 15/09/2021 19:55

@Firevie thank you, I’m sure things will get better eventually, it’s all just very new still. Jesse is number 1 now so whatever is best for him.

@Bubbles1st you would think it would be easy wouldn’t you!! My mum can’t understand it and would do anything to see him!
I feel you, I’m the same, I’m wanting people to wash their hands when they hold him etc, just worrying!!
