Thanks @CherLW for the new thread. Needed here too! Xx

AdventuresAwait · 10/08/2021 16:54

Thanks for the information from some of you on the first thread about colostrum harvesting. Even the slight chance of it starting labour worries me but I know how important it is, especially with GD, so I don't know what to do.

CherLW · 10/08/2021 17:02

@AdventuresAwait I know how you feel… I don’t want to do anything that brings on early labour like I’m too scared to even bounce on a birth ball!! So silly I know!!
I just know the harvesting is so beneficial with the GD. I’ve got a baby feeding class tomorrow evening and she talks about colostrum harvesting.. it’s with the honest midwife and she’s amazing!! I’ll take notes and ask questions on how small this chance is! X

Thanks for the new thread! Definitely learnt some invaluable information from the previous one!

As for the colostrum harvesting, I’m keen to give this a go, but where do you buy the syringes from? What size etc?
I do leak colostrum quite easily with a slight squeeze so I’m hoping I’ll manage to get some.

Sillysocks998 · 10/08/2021 17:18

@CherLW thank you for the new thread. 100% need all of you ladies too❤️😘

CherLW · 10/08/2021 17:26

You’re welcome all ❤️ It’s definitely needed all round xx

@Moominmiss I got mine from the maternity midwife but she seemed to think I could get them from my midwife too. I think they are just standard size? Not too sure

@Sillysocks998 posting on the new thread what I just wrote to you:

I'm really surprised your gd midwife was so awful to you, mine has been really understanding when I've had a bad reading & I kick myself even more than she does! She says one bad reading won't make too much of a difference, its continuous bad readings that make them worry. And they don't like you going hungry. Perhaps walking round a bit more will make a difference.
Don't let her get you down! We're all doing the best we can under crappy circumstances xx

bewitchingnight · 10/08/2021 17:42

@Sillysocks998 sorry to hear about your bad day, I completely understand! It's a shame that your team weren't more supportive though because so many things are out of our control with readings.

I've got a good colostrum info sheet from the midwife I'll try and upload it now. The syringes I can pick up from the antenatal clinic at the hospital although my midwife said I could probably get them from a pharmacy at a push.

bewitchingnight · 10/08/2021 17:45

Hopefully it's legible?

Hi @bewitchingnight
I couldn't read the last page. But that's really helpful. Had a little practice over my top lol. Thank you.
@GWhiteley I have a different lady each time and this one was just, straight to it. Even though she'd known I'd had such a hard time. I've been emotionally and mentally and physically at breaking point. Again not because of the baby but because of my own health issues. I may be able to share one day if I'm brave enough. But anyway, thank you to all of you for being understanding and more compassionate. Sometimes being stern isn't the right approach and can make people go the other way.
Yay to the new thread. 😁❤️.
Xx

Firevie · 10/08/2021 19:20

@CherLW thanks for the new thread!
Could you post the link for the talk with the honest midwife re harvesting? I’ve attended her first class and absolutely loved her. Would be good to do her class on harvesting. You guys are ahead of me - so exciting for you guys!! I’m 30+5 today so another 10weeks to go. Yay! Hope my levels remain and don’t get worse in that dreaded 32/36week window. Anyone on here who was fine during that time? Xxx

AdventuresAwait · 10/08/2021 21:21

That's such a shame @Sillysocks998. My diabetic team have said having some high readings is ok and won't make a big difference. But they want to avoid them too regularly xx

I feel exactly the same @CherLW xx

Thanks for the information @bewitchingnight xx

Bubbles1st · 10/08/2021 21:29

I can't believe we are on second thread already!

I managed a take away tonight, pulled pork with some fries. I made a big salad with Mano to go with it and had a small flat bread. Was under target and I can't tell you how good I feel
For having it!

Especially after breakfast and going over tablet despite to metformin! Wasn't even 30 carbs total.... don't think even the meds help
Me in the morning.

36 weeks Friday and hoping tolerance gets a bit better and a good birth plan comes together after growth scan next week!

AdventuresAwait · 10/08/2021 21:33

@Firevie, I am 36 weeks on Thursday. I've had the odd high but they've been happy with my day to day readings. I've only had to increase my insulin from 10 to 12 to keep on top of my fasting reading in the morning so my 32 to 36 week window wasn't as bad as I expected.

AdventuresAwait · 10/08/2021 21:37

Yay for the take away @Bubbles1st! Hope you have a great growth scan and birth plan next week xx

CherLW · 10/08/2021 21:40

@Firevie I follow her on Instagram and signed up through that. Her first class was free but the one I’m doing now is ‘Infant feeding’ and it was £20 I think. I think it’s such a good price tho, it’s 2.5 hours and will be the 3rd one of hers I’ve done. Can you find it on Instagram or shall I try abs find a link?

I was fine during the 32-36 window, my levels are pretty consistent apart from the odd high one. I’m diet controlled and they are happy for me to continue this way

Scotti84 · 10/08/2021 22:18

@Firevie i was diagnosed at 30 weeks, and didnt notice any change until at 36 weeks the readings got better, so i could eat more carbs and not go over. I still need to keep an eye on what i eat and i stick to the same boring stuff still but ive found the last two weeks i can have white bread instead of brown and not be over target. Which is such a simple thing, but there's nowt better than a ham and tomato sarnie on soft white bread. Next step... breadrolls... I'd murder one of them tuna and celery sarnies from thomas the baker, haven't had one of them in years!

CherLW · 10/08/2021 22:48

@Bubbles1st woop on the take away!! It feels so good when something works! Makes no sense does it when you have a breakfast which you would say was good for GD and it’s high and then have a take away which you would assume to be bad for GD and you’re reading is ok!!

@Firevie I’ve found that too, now I’m over 36 weeks I feel I’m tolerating more! I think my sugars react more if I had pasta than if I ate a bar of chocolate!!

Ever since my consultant appointment last week I feel like I've been slacking a bit… because he said it was all ok and I won’t need to be induced early etc my mind thinks it’s ok to relax a bit…. When it’s not! I just need to get my head back in to the game and focus!

bewitchingnight · 11/08/2021 06:15

Oh @Scotti84 and @CherLW you're giving me hope! 36 weeks today and definitely been harder the last couple of weeks, not helped by my waning willpower! Hopefully things ease up a bit for the last stretch

Sillysocks998 · 11/08/2021 08:02

Morning Ladies, I'm in hospital. Waters have broke😬😬😬. Such a strange feeling. I feel overwhelmed already. Just praying to God that we'll be OK 🙏... Update you later.
It' can happen anytime.. Get those bags packed x

Scotti84 · 11/08/2021 08:20

@Sillysocks998 ahhh! The first of us! How exciting! Hope it all goes okay! X

AdventuresAwait · 11/08/2021 08:22
