@PineappleSun to be honest there wasn't really
Any resistance. My usual consultant was on holiday, so not sure if that affected the way today's consultant dealt with me in terms
Of lack of investment 🤣

But she just got very matter of fact,
Got the paperwork, told the junior dr with her what she needed to do to go and get me an appointment for steroids, I just interrupted and said I didn't want them if I have to be admitted. She just agreed that was ok too. I wasn't umming or ahhing though, I was very assertive and told her out I didn't want an induction but was happy to agree to early delivery.

She whizzed through the consent paperwork which involved looking at risks of c section vs vaginal.

Then opened her spreadsheet and picked a date!

She then called a midwife in to take us abs go through the specifics of what will actually happen on the day.

AdventuresAwait · 16/08/2021 21:45

@PineappleSun, I was expecting resistance to my request for a c-section but didn't get any at all. Consultant recommended an induction between 38 and 39 weeks. I said I really didn't want an induction for a few reasons to do with inductions. Additionally, with induction, there seems to be an increased risk of an emergency cesarean. I then said that as I had other risk factors that meant a natural labour may end in an emergency cesarean (age, BMI, GD & family history of a narrow pelvic arch), that I would prefer an elective section if they insist baby has to come early so it is calm/planned & they agreed (just made sure I knew the risks of a c-section). This was at 31 weeks & we chose a date between 38 and 39 weeks there and then. That was it!

Scotti84 · 17/08/2021 07:34

Its really good that we have the choice over such things, i know my trust in England where i used to live wouldnt offer c sections without several good reasons but at the end of the day it's our body, our baby and should be our choice. I'm lucky germany are very forward thinking in this way and i have pretty much every option open to me, i just have to ask for it.

On a different note, anyone else waking up absolutely starving?! I wake up wanting to stuff my face, i dont, because i cant, but then lose my hunger through the day and on an evening its a struggle to get anything down. Anyone else?

PineappleSun · 17/08/2021 08:03

Thanks ladies, that's really helpful. I'm in a similar situation to you @AdventuresAwait so hopefully it'll be equally straight forward for me.

CherLW · 17/08/2021 09:54

@Scotti84 I’m the opposite.. I wake up not wanting anything at all!! I always have lunch and dinner tho and even a snack after!

@CherLW i was like that until this week. Just when you think things settle a bit... nope something else comes to keep us on our toes!

Firevie · 18/08/2021 08:42

Morning ladies! I’m having a bit of a rough morning. One of the things on my mind is obv my baby. I had a scan two days ago at 31+4 and doctor said baby is growing well, no concerns. He is weighing 3lb 8oz (1600g). Do you know what your babies weighed around similar gestational age? Xxx

PineappleSun · 18/08/2021 09:09

4lb 5oz at 31 weeks for me but it said in the report the margin of error is 7oz! I keep hearing growth scans are notoriously inaccurate and as long as baby is growing with each one, that's the main thing.

Moominmiss · 18/08/2021 09:14

I didn’t have a growth scan until 34 weeks where baby was estimated to be 5lb 5oz.

So if you account for the fact they supposedly put on around half a pound a week from around 32 weeks, then your baby would be estimated to be around 4lb 8oz/5lb by 34 weeks so smaller than mine. But I do think I have a particular little chunk on board lol xx

AdventuresAwait · 18/08/2021 09:36

@Firevie, at my 31 week growth scan baby was estimated at 4lb 1oz and at 35 weeks she was 6lb 1oz. I also heard they aren't particularly accurate. I don't know exactly which percentiles she's on as it is just on a graph but looks about 69 to 79%, so bigger than average but within range. My consultant was happy that the two weights were on the same trajectory.

Poppysmile · 18/08/2021 09:53

Hey guys just reading through the comments I had my growth scan yesterday I’m 34+5 the said he weight 7lbs!!! I’m going to opt for a c section but for some reason I feel really down about this like I should try natural an I’m letting people down for some reason I feel like a lot of family feel it’s the wrong thing to do even tho they haven’t said that but it’s just what I want to do does anyone else feel the same way? It’s my first baby and I’m such an anxious person anyway I feel a c section is best for me xx

CherLW · 18/08/2021 09:55

@Firevie when I went for my second growth scan my consultant didn’t even look at the weight. He said as long as your baby is in range to your graph/pattern then he’s happy.
He said the weights can be inaccurate and not something to get caught up worrying about.

He said every lady has a different graph to follow based on their size/previous pregnancies etc so all babies will grow at different speeds. He was happy everything was going well and in proportion 😊

CherLW · 18/08/2021 10:00

@Poppysmile I’m sorry you feel that you’re letting people down by wanting to opt for a C section 😔. You definitely shouldn’t feel this way! It’s your body, it’s your baby and only you with the help of the professionals know what’s best.
If you’re an anxious person I feel having a planned c section is one of the best things in my opinion as you’re in control a bit more.

There are a few ladies on here who have opted for a c section too.

I’m hoping for a natural birth but only because it suits my own personal circumstances. Just like a Planned Section would suit yours. I really hope that your family/friends understand your decision and if they don’t then they aren’t worth your worry.

Our bodies, our decisions xxx

@CherLW Thankyou for that I would of loved to done it nautural it’s just with the GD and then they told me yesterday he’s looking at being 9lbs 8 when born I know sometimes they can be wrong but your right about the control I feel like I haven’t been incontroll and I just want this last little bit planned so I can relax abit more I see the consultant on the 1st so hoping they can give me a date xxx

I went for my 32 week scan yesterday. I’m diet controlled and only had one out of range reading in 5 weeks. My baby’s weight has dropped from 80th percentile at my 28 week scan to 76th percentile.
The doctor said, it’s probably fine and to be expected because I’m on a carb controlled diet but booked me in to have extra scans (every two weeks now) and prepare for an early induction!

It’s crazy how differently hospitals treat us.

AdventuresAwait · 18/08/2021 10:34

@Poppysmile, I really wanted a natural birth but for different reasons have now opted for an elective c-section. At first, I felt disappointed even though I really feel it is best for both me and the baby. Now, I'm feeling happy about the decision because I'm sure it's right as I really don't want an emergency cesarean. So many people have told me that once baby is here, I won't think again about how it happened! Maybe part of me will always wish I had tried for a natural birth but I am not accepting an induction so am confident in our decision. Hope that makes a bit of sense!
Regarding family, different decisions are right for different people. It is your body and baby, you do what is best for you xx

Bubbles1st · 18/08/2021 11:10

@Poppysmile we have a scheduled section also planned now, so far only Mum even knows that.

We won't be telling anyone ahead of the big day as people won't be expecting him to be early so it's a nice time without all the incoming texts of us he here yet.

However last night I did have a full emotional melt down and part of that included being worried if I'd done the right thing going for a section, putting myself in that position of surgery which otherwise could be avoided. However I think my biggest (which surprises me) fear is actually just being in hospital alone without my DP. My consultant said if we are both ok then we can go home after 24 hours, which to me is worth the unknown stay for the induction. If I was in for a few nights waiting for labour to progress it would really stress me out and I know that I'd be more likely to end up failing to progress and resulting in c section or forceps delivery.

So ultimately for my sanity and like you being in control, I chose a section as I'm in @AdventuresAwait camp and outright declining an induction

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 18/08/2021 11:13

If this was my first baby, I would definitely be asking for a caesarean.

Don’t second guess yourself x

Poppysmile · 18/08/2021 11:33

@AdventuresAwait @Bubbles1st aw Thankyou so much this has made me feel alot better that I’m not alone I’ll probably do the same thing and not tell people about section date, my midwife told me that if I go in early morning I would be out the next night if everything went to plan so that made me happier it’s just such a big decision but I feel like I’m doing the right thing for me, I need to try and not listen to other people xxxx

Scotti84 · 18/08/2021 11:33

@AdventuresAwait @Bubbles1st sorry if this is too nosy, but what will you do if your waters break before the c section date? Do you have to then try a natural birth or will they bring the c section forward?

Bubbles1st · 18/08/2021 11:44

@Scotti84 for me it's a natural labour, I don't have an issue with a spontaneous birth, I do have a sweep booked before my section. It's just the induction process and forcing it all to happen that makes me anxious. If he is ready on his own, I'll be ready for him. However I'm booked for 38+4 so it is unlikely.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 18/08/2021 12:25

Oh! I had an amazing tea last night.
My husband went and bought everything to make me a ploughman’s.

Scotch egg, pickled onions, gherkins, ham, different cheeses, crackers, nice butter

I had an absolute feast. I felt satisfied and like I’d eaten something I’d actually enjoyed for the first time in weeks and my 1 hour reading was 5.7!

I’m going to make it a weekly treat.

bewitchingnight · 18/08/2021 15:21

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken that sounds great! I might try that for lunch.

My willpower is seriously fading fast, 37 weeks today luckily can't bloody wait to be rid of this! Hope everyone is doing ok x

AdventuresAwait · 18/08/2021 17:33

@Scotti84, if I go into labour spontaneously before the section date, I've said I'll try for a natural birth (as it wouldn't be induction) but I can have a low threshold for a c-section due to my other risk factors.

Scotti84 · 18/08/2021 18:37

@Bubbles1st @AdventuresAwait thanks ladies, that makes sense. Im still chewing over what to do if she doesnt come by due date. Here they give tablets to induce in the first instance, then if they dont work they go to a drip, I think id be ok with trying the tablets but am very hesitant for the drip. I think my worry would also make the whole thing harder, not sure id be able to relax and have the birth I would ideally like due to worry. 39 weeks on Monday, think ill be on the curries and bouncing on my birthing ball by then, see if she wants to make it easier for us!
