@JackJack84, I was 26 weeks too but time has actually passed really quickly since and I'm now 36 weeks. Lovely to hear that your DP is so supportive and great that you've done an online GD shop already... you've got this!

JackJack84 · 13/08/2021 10:47

Thank you @AdventuresAwait & @CherLW I'm feeling so much better today. My fasting level was 5.3 which is my upper limit but after breakfast it was only 5.7 which I was thrilled about! I've been reading through the previous thread & saw that some people found having a late snack before bed helped lower the fasting reading so I'm going to try that tonight.

AdventuresAwait · 13/08/2021 11:16

Yay @JackJack84! 5.3 is my target too and 5.7 after breakfast is great. Well done xx

CherLW · 13/08/2021 11:52

That’s good @JackJack84 a positive start! Yeh definitely, I found that drinking a pint of drink with every meal helped with levels too!

In the evenings I usually have full fat fage yogurt with a few nuts and some strawberries or a Granny Smith apple with peanut butter

I was going to ask what kind of drinks do people have? I do drink a lot of water & tea but also like to have cans of pop (always zero/sugar free). Do you find pop affects your levels at all? I've just got some flavoured sparkling water as I thought that might be a better alternative.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 13/08/2021 12:34

I mostly just drink water or dilute. I have one cup of tea per day and one can of sugar free fizzy drink a week.
I was always very boring with my drinks choices so this has been no adjustment at all… except I do love to drink myself to an Appletiser if we go out for dinner which are full of sugar so a big no now.

AdventuresAwait · 13/08/2021 13:38

@JackJack84, I have water, decaf tea/coffee & coke that is no sugar or caffeine.

Scotti84 · 13/08/2021 14:04

@JackJack84 i try and stick to water, decaf coffee, but once a week i drink a real coffee (and how much do i enjoy that!!) and have emergency Fanta zero in the fridge because sometimes i just need a swig of something with flavour.

penguin7 · 13/08/2021 14:53

Hi everyone...I'm recently diagnosed, I've been testing my blood x4 a day for the last two weeks now.
So far all within range and no concerns, however today I tested after breakfast (one hour after) and got a reading of 8.2 (my highest yet) then I tested a minute later on another finger and got 7.6. Then after lunch (one hour after) I got a reading of 8.3 then I tested again a minute later on another finger and got 7.0.
Why would it do this and what reading do I believe?

Bubbles1st · 13/08/2021 14:53

@JackJack84 I drink normal coffee every morning with breakfast. Mostly water through the day and always a big glass with my meals. But do have sugar free or squash or a sugar free fizzy drink usually most days. No issues with readings for me

Bubbles1st · 13/08/2021 17:15

@penguin7 I only ever test one finger and take the first reading. Unless it was an exceptionally high and there was a chance I had food on my hand maybe.

Otherwise I don't know where I would draw the line so for me I find just one test is best.

AdventuresAwait · 13/08/2021 17:20

@penguin7, I'm the same as @Bubbles1st. I only retest if it's super high. But at the beginning, I'm sure that some hand washes made a difference! So now I rinse really well witty hot water & then dry with kitchen roll in case there's something on the hand towel too!!

Scotti84 · 13/08/2021 18:48

@penguin7 im with @AdventuresAwait on the hand washing, even if i think theyre clean enough it has made the difference a few times at the start.

CherLW · 13/08/2021 21:31

@JackJack84 I have sugar free squash, water or zero fizzy drinks… none of which effect my readings.
I wonder how @Sillysocks998 is getting on! Thinking of her! X

Thanks @CherLW xx

JackJack84 · 14/08/2021 14:21

Thanks all for the drinks suggestions. Just had my first high reading & I'm not sure why as I had the same lunch yesterday & the reading was well under.

Today my fasting reading was 4.8, breakfast at 6.30 was an omelette with mushroom, tomato, spring onion, Quorn Ham, cheddar & Halloumi with mayonnaise. Post breakfast reading was 6.

Snack at 11 was 2 wholemeal ryvita with cottage cheese followed by a 30 minute swim.

Lunch at 1.30 was a Warburtons wholemeal thin with egg mayonnaise sandwich filler, lettuce, tomato & cucumber & a Babybel. Post lunch reading was 8.5.

Can anyone spot anything obvious I've missed? Wondering if having carbs for snack & lunch was too much? TIA x

Bubbles1st · 14/08/2021 15:17

@JackJack84 it's difficult to say as that lunch sounds good. Did you drink plenty/same amount of water? Did you snack the same yesterday?

Cottage on its own perhaps isn't the best pairing for crackers, was is low fat or normal? Usually a protein or fat with no carbs is better.

Just make a note and see what happens next time. So much to get used and inconsistent readings are definitely going to happen whether it's due to food, stress, lack of sleep.

JackJack84 · 14/08/2021 15:29

@Bubbles1st thanks for your reply. I've had pretty much the same drinks, just tea, water & a glass of no added sugar squash. My snack yesterday was celery with a Babybel so no carbs that time. The cottage cheese was normal but I think I'll stick to less carb heavy snacks in future & save them for mealtimes.

I guess it's all a learning curve with trial & error along the way. I must say I am enjoying having full fat things though, after years of doing Weight Watchers it feels like such a treat. I'd never had full fat Greek yoghurt before until yesterday & what a revelation! It was glorious 😁

Bubbles1st · 14/08/2021 16:16

Ha ha @JackJack84 I know what you mean real
mayo is heaven sent 🤣

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 15/08/2021 07:07

My morning fasting readings are going down again.
Last week they were in the 5.0-5.2 range and I was starting to worry that I was losing control. This week they’re going back down to the low 4’s. Today it was 4.1.
I’m 31 + 4 and have a scan on Tuesday to check baby’s growth.

My consultant is very negative though so I know she’ll still push for early induction even if I continue on this path and I’ll have zero choice and control in my birthing options. It’s very frustrating.

CherLW · 15/08/2021 11:57

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken that’s good your levels are lower now. I can’t see why they should make you have an early induction if they stay low?
I’m 37+3 and my lady consultants appointment he said I would have to be inducted early as my levels were ok.. I’ll keep my fingers crossed this will be the same for you too!

I’m seeing them again on the 1st (unless baby is here) and we will go from there as I don’t think they like to go over the due date too much anyway.

I’m worrying myself a bit, like it’s almost 12 and I’m just I think hungry! Normally I would be ok and think I’ll just eat when I feel like it but with GD I think it’s worse not to eat isn’t it? I just don’t fancy it 😔… I feel stupid as I’m not one to get upset about not eating and I love eating but as the days go on I’m just not as interested 😕

Just not hungry…. Not ‘just I think hungry’
