Is it normal to think that when someone announces their pregnancy- even when being extremely happy for the couple?

No.

HeReWeGoAgAiN1112 · 14/07/2021 17:40

No? Isn’t that very weird …

CrouchEndTiger12 · 14/07/2021 17:41

No Confused

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 14/07/2021 17:42

Absolutely not ever.

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 14/07/2021 17:43

I’ve never thought that. I usually think ‘how lovely,.... thank god it’s not me.’ Not sure that’s a normal response though. 😬😂

WimpoleHat · 14/07/2021 17:43

Presumably if they’re an established couple, you’d assume they’d had sex long before that, though?

Reminds me a time at a colleague’s wedding when one of the other guests was sniggering about the wedding night. Given that they’d been living together for ages, it was a pretty safe bet that they’d done it before….

FourTurnings · 14/07/2021 17:44

Actually that does go through my mind, yes.

GreyhoundG1rl · 14/07/2021 17:44

Assuming they're both adults... No. Very weird.

boathemianrhapsody · 14/07/2021 17:45

Yes sometimes

Garman · 14/07/2021 17:46

No, because A. I'm not 13 and B. I would hope any "happy" couple I know would be having sex.

liloandstench · 14/07/2021 17:46

Yes, I do. Don't think it's that weird it's not like I'm fantasising.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 14/07/2021 17:47

Confused no. That would be weird. Well, I obviously know how babies are made but I don't picture it or have an actual thought about it when told someone's expecting.

Runningupthecurtains · 14/07/2021 17:47

Not since I was about 12. Especially not since I had an IVF baby and therefore hadn't had sex!

lljkk · 14/07/2021 17:47

yes, only because of all the MNers who insist that the question "Was it planned?" is extremely rude.

Because they argue that's as personal as asking "Did you have sex!?" -- even though announcing you're expecting a baby is announcing you had sex (usually; bodily fluid exchange definitely happened, anyway).

I really don't want to think about anyone's sex life.

I do find it fascinating how life happens when we're making other plans, but apparently I'm rude to find that fun chitchat.

shangelawasrobbed · 14/07/2021 17:49

I don't think that when others announce their pregnancies, but I was really conscious of it when telling my dad I was pregnant.

I've been with my fella for 17 years and we've lived together for 13 so it's not exactly a secret that we're having sex, but I still felt a bit awkward for some reason!

notacooldad · 14/07/2021 17:53

If it was 1978 and I was 13 I might think that but since I'm a fully grown adult it wouldn't cross my mind.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 14/07/2021 17:55

I do occasionally. But I think weird random things all the time, just wouldn't ever voice them out loud!

Viviennemary · 14/07/2021 17:57

Maybe if you're 12.

OverByYer · 14/07/2021 17:57

Errr no

Iggly · 14/07/2021 17:58

No 😂

whatinthenameofhen · 14/07/2021 17:59

When people say they are 'trying' - yes I think that. When they announce preg I count back to work out the month of conception. Also when I had my second child a colleague said "oh I've just realised you've had sex with xxxx at least twice.' Bit weird but it is just a fleeting thought!

SugarbabyMilly · 14/07/2021 17:59

Nope

LubaLuca · 14/07/2021 17:59

That's a subconscious assumption. Couples have sex, you don't really consider it one way or the other.

It would have to be very unusual circumstances that would make me think 'those two had sex?!'

whatinthenameofhen · 14/07/2021 18:01

What I did find quite intrusive was when my new new neighbour and announced she was ttc and followed it up with 'hope you don't mind me asking but how many times did you have to try?' Was a bit much!

joystir59 · 14/07/2021 18:01

Yes, I do sometimes.
