@Luckyelephant1 my hospital don't provide towels. I found that out the hard way when I was kept in a few weeks ago 😂 they did have a couple of small ones which saved the day!

Vie8126 · 30/05/2021 12:29

I think even if they provided towels given the fluids we all lose after birth etc you'd prob be better with some of your own (in a dark colour!) flip flops for shared bathrooms and I've always taken some antibac/bathroom wipes as if you're on a shared ward with one bathroom between 6 post natal woman I learnt you cannot assume everyone has the same cleanliness levels!

HumunaHey · 30/05/2021 12:34

No towels for showers, etc. I bought a towel robe thingy for my birth with DC1 and I was glad I did. The shower room was across a busy hallway from the birthing suite I was in.

HumunaHey · 30/05/2021 12:37

I have a wrap sling from when DC1 was a baby. It wasn't very complicated to use but he was born during a heatwave. It only got used when I was in the ( very cool) house doing chores, etc.. I couldn't use it outdoors or he'd have melted away!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 30/05/2021 19:07

Thank you to whoever asked about towels, you've reminded me to add them
To my hospital bag list. Last time I was in I forgot to bring any and had to drip dry after a bath (on my third night in so very much needed) as my waters went everywhere. I refuse to be chilly and damp and contracting this time round!

Had a little shopping day today and got a new car seat for DS (so the baby can go in his 360 spin one) a breastfeeding pillow, an angel care bath seat and some little basket storage stuff from IKEA (among many other non baby related ikea purchases) so I can sort and put away all the baby stuff for our room and get it looking nice and organised.

Now all I need to get is the pram and a changing bag. It felt so good ticking some more stuff off my list.

Pinkprinny · 30/05/2021 20:26

Is the Facebook Page still up? I cannot seem to find it anymore!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 31/05/2021 14:14

Hey! I think I’ve just about got everything for my hospital bag now!!!! Whoop!!
Just want some flip flops from
Primark for the shower - so going to call and get them tomorrow then I’m done :)

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE I managed to get hold of some of the starter pack bottles from Morrison’s today - after hunting round loads of supermarkets the last few weeks.

Can’t believe I’m almost sorted for the baby now....just need to arrange a time to collect the travel system and I think that’s me done xx

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 31/05/2021 14:43

@TiredAlreadyOhDear i eventually managed to get two packs of the starter packs! My mw was saying lots of people have been struggling.

Finally managed to wash the baby clothes so once dry i can sort the ones going in babies hospital bag

I’m the same, just need flip flops!

Ive decided to have the baby at the birth centre, I was set on a home birth but for some practical reasons and also the risk of pph I’ve chosen the birth centre as a compromise. So my hospital bag is done! (Minus flip flops Smile ).

It’s absolutely boiling here (Sussex) is anyone else melting. I’m goi g to order an air con unit for our bedroom as it’s sure to get hotter than this and I’m going to struggle!

I'm hiding inside today and slept in my birthday suit last night... its better than the rain but I don't know how I'll make it through June if it is this warm. May have to kick DD out of her paddling pool 😂
CoffeeAndCaramel · 31/05/2021 17:16

@Foxglovesandlilacs I'm not far from you and today we went to west whitterings beach! Left at 2 o'clock as didn't want to over do it but it was lush!! Air con unit sounds great by the way!!

How is everyone else?? Anyone else have gestational diabetes? X

Foxglovesandlilacs · 31/05/2021 17:39

@CoffeeAndCaramel you must be really close! Despite living down here nearly 16 years I’ve never been to the witterings! I bet it was lovely 😊

Lullabymummy17 · 31/05/2021 17:46

@CoffeeAndCaramel I have GD and had it with DD too. I was diet controlled with her but this time I'm on metformin. Seems to be under control at the moment but I have ice cream cravings, even before the sunny weather so I'm expecting some high readings although I do test before I have one to make sure it isn't too high already!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 31/05/2021 18:17

Wow you lot are so good with your hospital bags! I haven't even started on that. Although I'm one of the late ones on here at only 32 weeks so I guess I've got time.

We picked up our pram today! Found one on Facebook market place last night, it was the exact one I'd been looking at but the lady was selling it for £100 she had it as a spare and it's barely even been used so I was so glad to snap it up.

Now all I need is a changing bag and to do the hospital bag (and the older DCs bags in case they have to go to my mums over night)

It is all starting to feel real now like I will actually have a new little baby in the house... I probably should have realised that earlier but I feel like I'm still coming to terms with it.

I keep flip flopping around getting one of those sleepy head nest things... on the one hand, I'd do pretty much anything to try and get a decent sleep out of a little baby. On the other hand, they can be expensive and might not work and you can't use them while you sleep anyway...

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 31/05/2021 19:53

@Foxglovesandlilacs i am having baby on the labour ward as our hospital class dc5+ as PPH risk so they wont let me in the birth centre

Mummy2O · 31/05/2021 19:55

@Luckyelephant1 I am so glad you asked about the towel. I wouldn't have even thought about it! Weirdly it doesn't seem to be on the hospital bag lists you see online.

@foxglovesandlilacs I am melting!!! We went for a walk today and it has totally wiped me out. I've just shoved a load of ice cube trays in the freezer. I am hoping they freeze quickly.

Foxglovesandlilacs · 31/05/2021 19:59

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE they recommend the labour ward here too but ultimately it’s down to where the mother wants to give birth. I did speak to a consultant about it and he said he thought the birth centre was a good compromise.

I just really desperately don’t want to be induced, last time I had the drip and it was so painful! I also couldn’t have a water birth, which I did with all my others, so if I can just have those two things I will be so happy. There’s three pools in the birthing centre and only one on the labour ward so fingers crossed I will snag one Smile

I know right! That's why I asked as it's not on any online lists! I've got a couple of thin dark blue ones I'll take which I don't mind chucking if they get ruined after.

I'm 34 weeks today and not started packing yet although I have a mental list and have roughly everything I need except some toiletries, I think. Everyone seems so organised!

I'm the same (also 32 weeks and haven't packed by bag). Although I did get some flip flops from Primark the other day for the shower - my tiny bit of preparation! I'm a size 5 and got size 5/6 flip flops. I got them home and my heel hangs over the back of them. I'm not too botheredas theywere less than £1 and I only really want them for the shower. But I'd recommend anyone
HumunaHey · 31/05/2021 20:09

...getting Primark flip flops to get a generous size, especially with potential swollen feet after birth.

Tvscreen · 31/05/2021 20:28

Hello thought I would join this thread! I’m due 8 July. Having a surprise! I already have a DS1 who is 2yrs4monthd. Apart from getting snuzpod I have got nothing else ready for this baby 😱
Still need to pack my hospital bag, get the car seat down from the loft, get the new born bit of the pram down from the loft and get the newborn clothes down from the loft.

For everyone with toddlers, are you getting a double pram? I’ve just got an ride on thingy to attach to the pram for DS1 to stand on but have no idea if this will work 😬

Tvscreen · 31/05/2021 20:29

Also, does anyone know where I could get sheets that fit a snuzpod 3 mattress that don’t cost the earth??

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 31/05/2021 20:32

Welcome @Tvscreen, i got a single to double pram, current youngest is 20 months

HumunaHey · 31/05/2021 20:39

@Tvscreen DS1 will have just turned 3 when DS2 is born. I'm thinking of getting a buggy board but I'd really like to try before I buy.

Pictures I see never seem to show a parent actually pushing a buggy with a toddler on board. I'm imagining they make you walk with your bum stuck out!
