Morning sickness (sorry)

I am 6 weeks pregnant and feeling sick as a dog. This is all new to me, wtf do I do? I feel starving but nauseous. Felt sick most of day, better after lunch, then threw up entire day's food about 4 pm, after which I felt MUCH better but now I am extremely hungry, just ate small amount of food and feel ill again. Is this just how it goes? Does it come and go or is this it now? Will it pass? Does it mean I am having a girl? Is there any hope in hell that I can pretend I am NOT pregnant when I am mooning around in a smock looking like death warmed up?

I find it harder to find something I can drink than eat. I was off water, definitely no coffee (barf), orange juice was awful until a couple of weeks ago (but I can only stomach Grove Farm Organic Ruby Red - add it to the posh remedy list!)

Grazing is good Franny - don't worry about eating set meals, just snack all day long. And tiredness often makes it worse, so lots of early nights. Although I had dreadful insomnia - that's passed but I have sciatica now. ffs.

I had a week or two where I couldn't face cooking for the rest of the family so I surrendered and bought lots of ready meals.

millie1 · 16/11/2007 11:37

I found sips of ice cold sparkling water ok for a few days. Went through a soda & lime stage too. At the moment, it's hard to drink full-stop. Marks pears are great - never mind the cost of M&S fruit at this time Ruty! Feeling s* today and just want to sleep. It's only 11.30am but I'll have to have a sandwich now - ridiculous time for lunch but it's that or head down the loo (again!).

bigboydiditandranaway · 16/11/2007 12:22

I had nausea when i was pregnant and found ginger bickies the best, i used to carry some round in my handbag for when i felt the nausea coming on and managed to escape being sick. Hope this works for you

JackBlackRoady · 16/11/2007 13:21

Been walking around Mothercare this morning with my nose in a tupperware tub sniffing lemons - worked for a while. But moving is making me retch today so i am going to sit stll and go on the net for a while.....

F&Z hello from July antenatal thread

I'm 7 weeks today, I too am suffering. Woe is me! Sounds really really similar to yours too, esp. re: low down stomach ache. My digestive habits are completely loopy at the mo so it could be pooh pains. Have your bowels been odd perhaps this could be your source of discomfort too?

And one of the worst bits is the fact that my mouth is watering so much all the time (suppose cos I think I'm gonna throw constantly) and having to swallow makes it worse.

Had hyperemesis with ds and god I'd forgotten how awful the nausea is. I agree that finding something to drink is hard, last time round ice lollies and jelly helped because of the water content.

I am supposed to be going out tonight, really don't want to its going to be hell. Unless I can order a lemonade with ice and slice and get them to leave out the lemonade

Hope it gets better F&Z and all other fellow sufferers
x

Well this morning was one of the best days this week, however after lunch I felt bloody rough again and thought I was going to have to go and be sick while I was working, which is no 1 on my list of things I would rather not do. However I sniffed and sniffed my spearmint stuff and also drank some peppermint tea, which really seemed to help. My stomach was very sore and bloaty and I assume I ate too much for lunch (3 oatcakes instead of 2 ). or maybe it was the nuts. I am not sure, something was bad news anyway. But it did pass and I was able to stay at work and after the first hour it wasn't too bad.

Sorry my posts on here are so dull but I am partly using it as a diary to see what I have eaten and if anything seems to set it off, or what helps prevent it etc. I actually felt hungry at dinnertime and ate half a baked potato with some baked beans, which is probably the squarest meal I've had all week. I am very very sorry for everyone who is suffering.

I think it was probably not enough oatcakes. I eat at least four.

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2007 20:11

MrsC don't scoff at my oatcake achievement

I have yet to find a lunch that doesn't make me want to hurl, but 2 oatcakes is the nearest yet

I had another half a potato this evening! With butter and cheese! i was feeling dizzy and bloody hell it tasted good. I am still hungry but scared to eat more tbh. I would so love not to feel sick tomorrow.

I had baked potato & beans for dinner too. I am still on my cheese quest as well. As I suspect that the cheese thing is to do with calcium, I had porridge, with full fat milk, for breakfast. It was excellent on such a cold morning.

I've not suffered for most of the day, but the tireder I get, the sicker I feel, so by 4/5pm I am beginning to struggle with it - and then I can only eat a small dinner.

Enjoy the weekend Franny - at least you are at liberty to be sick if you need to.

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2007 20:14

Eeeuw Franny, poor you morning sickness is horrible

I think ginger is meant to help... it sort of worked for me, a bit - do you like ginger biscuits?

I haven't read the whole thread, as I am shuttling between sofa and loo (disgusting food poisoning, so vomiting from both ends in sympathy with you)

Whatever you do, don't eat any quinoa

(((((((squeeze)))))))

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/11/2007 20:20

You need one of these er, remarkable products.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/11/2007 20:21

Don't show that to Califrau though!!!!! Poor lamb will have nightmares for weeks.

eggybreadandbeans · 16/11/2007 21:01

Congratulations, Franny - on the pregnancy obv, not the sickness!

I sympathise. Had round-the-clock nausea - akin to being on a boat on a choppy sea, I found - from week 6 to month 4, after which it gradually got better. You know everyone says it'll pass by three months? Well, I threw up on three months exactly! Not a fun feeling.

No time to read all posts, so apologies for duplication, but this is what worked for me:

  • Graze on low GI/GL, bland foods - porridge is great, and Nairn's mini oatcakes were a favourite. Take something like this everywhere - never be without food or drink
  • Wear seabands - those grey stretchy elastic wristbands with a knobbly bit, which sailors wear
  • Get hold of 'Morning Well' - it's a recording trialled at a UK birth centre which, when listened to, has been shown to reduce nausea. I used to go to bed with it playing, and took my trusty Walkman with me everywhere
  • If possible, get your dp/dh to bring you breakfast to your bed before getting up (always eat sthg before getting out of bed), and eat some porridge before bed to tide you over for a bit into your sleep

Despite feeling nauseous for nigh on four months, all the above helped to make it manageable, and I only vomitted that one time.

HTH, and good luck.

Oh, I'm not scoffing, Franny, only joking. I'm glad you felt a bit better today.

I know how you feel. I was away in Ireland when I was six weeks pregnant with Lo and I felt every bump in the very bumpy road and nibbled crystalised ginger the whole time. Those bands helped me too.

Astrophe · 17/11/2007 12:40

Sympathies I suffered until about 5 months with both mine.

These might have already been said, but

-a thermos of ice cold water - I would sip this throughout the day. The coldness helped, and I'm sure it was useful to stay hydrated as well
-sniff lemon, or a few drops of lemon oil on pillow or in the bath
-dry crackers and bread sticks, constantly (although WARNING I did put on about 25kg with DD )
-as much rest as is humanly possible
-gentle excersize. As much as I wanted to lie on on the coach, I always felt better for a little fresh air and a walk.

Best wishes, hopefully it will be textbook morning sickness and will peak at 9 weeks and pass by 13

orangehead · 17/11/2007 12:50

I found eating either a dry biscuit or a rice cake every hour seemed to help. Some people find drinking peppermint tea helps but it made me feel worse. My first I was just sick for the first 3 months, with my 2nd it was for the whole preg and both were boys. Hope you feel better soon

FrannyandZooey · 17/11/2007 14:40

God I actually feel NORMAL

could be a) a fluke
b) lots of rest
c) no wheat
d) magic spearmint thing

I feel fine. Hallelujah.

OP posts:
lullabyloo · 17/11/2007 15:33

definately the wheat

lullabyloo · 17/11/2007 15:35

sorry......i mean...glad you are ok lovely

& have passed it on to me

VictorianSqualor · 17/11/2007 16:48

I have honestly never thought about the wheat thing, yet I do think I am perhaps more ill when I eat it, I shall have to keep an eye on it.

FrannyandZooey · 17/11/2007 18:05

I have had small amounts of wheat today without difficulty (yet)

I was very ill after having a plate of pasta earlier in the week
