I am 6 weeks pregnant and feeling sick as a dog. This is all new to me, wtf do I do? I feel starving but nauseous. Felt sick most of day, better after lunch, then threw up entire day's food about 4 pm, after which I felt MUCH better but now I am extremely hungry, just ate small amount of food and feel ill again. Is this just how it goes? Does it come and go or is this it now? Will it pass? Does it mean I am having a girl? Is there any hope in hell that I can pretend I am NOT pregnant when I am mooning around in a smock looking like death warmed up?

Hi - just wanted to say that I suffred terribly with my first (missed miscarriage at 11 weeks), with my DD I had it until 20+weeks - then my friend gave me acupuncture 3 weeks in a row and it stopped the sickness and mean't I was able to function again, although I felt crap all through apart form 3 days! I tried, acubands, ginger, eating little and often and all the rest. When I could face somthing I found that Diet coke (which I NEVER drink ) made me feel better, as did melon - the water kept me hydrated and the fruit sugar helped. I also used to suck these sweets called SOURZ (from Woolworths) when I went back to work and they really helped too.

Would really recommend acupuncture.

Hope you feel better soon.xx

Hi, sounds exactly like morning sickness to me. Try not to become tired, hungry or dehydrated - you will feel worse. What worked for me?

-being given dry white toast (plain or with scraping of marmite, no butter) while still horizontal but must be within 15 mins of waking or you'll throw up anyway.

-cammomile tea or warm water in small sips throughout the day

-sunflower seeds, keep a bag in your pocket at all times and nibble on them wherever you go.. attractive non?

But, try all advice, what works for one may not work for another.

Congratulations, good luck and I hope you find some advice that helps you on here.

Wow Franny, you got one of your pg threads on the home page! Hope you're feeling better

Londoner · 15/11/2007 16:55

The spearmint idea sounds appealing, and I found this for you. Hope it helps!

FrannyandZooey · 15/11/2007 16:57

I used to drink a sacrificial glass of water first thing, throw it up, then drink a glass of sugary squash, throw up half of that and then I could manage a bit of toast.
Try and add a pinch of salt to a glass of water to keep dehydration at bay.

FrannyandZooey · 15/11/2007 17:04

I am starving now

god knows what I can eat

BOOquets · 15/11/2007 17:15

If you haven't been sick for a while, try throwing up now so you have more chance of any food staying down. You know, best defence is an offence LOL. Hot buttered toast?

Londoner · 15/11/2007 17:56

Boiled rice with a little salt added to the cooking water? Steamed vegetables? Avoid any fat or oil.

  • Or is it too late and have you raided the biscuits already......... .... whatever you do manage I'd say eat it slowly, there's more chance of keeping it down that way I reckon.
JackBlackRoady · 15/11/2007 18:07

"sacrificial glass of water" - I like the idea!

bamzooki · 15/11/2007 18:08

Snooks - sorry to put a dampener on your excitement - but with my dd I had v little in the way of nausea, and it was ds who caused me all the problems for about 5 months! So I really think it is down to individual responses to the hormones produced by the placenta, which are all sl different too.

Of course you may be having a dd anyway - let's hope so if you'd like it that way!

FrannyandZooey · 15/11/2007 20:05

I have not had any wheat all day and it has been a very good day. I am just about to eat some pizza - so we shall see. I don't feel like eating but I have only had a small bowl of cereal, 2 oatcakes and a bit of potato salad all day. Oh and some raisins and 2 bananas. I suppose that is not so little after all, is it? Oh god I don't know.

Huge sympathies to all the MS sufferers
I survived the first trimester on a diet of ginger ale and mashed potato slathered with gravy. I couldn't keep it a secret though, I was sick at work too often.
I have heard that travel sickness wristbands can work, dunno if that's true but thought I'd mention it

FrannyandZooey · 15/11/2007 20:54

I want to eat some chocolate [sulk]

or at least even consider it without instantly shuddering and going "nah"

Martha200 · 15/11/2007 21:16

Only things that vaguely helped, was those chuppa (sp?) lollies or Ovaltine.

MrsMagic · 15/11/2007 21:29

Some more ideas for your (sick) bag of tricks:

  • milk chocolate
-white chocolate
  • black salt (kala namak, found in indian shops, suck tiny pieces)
  • carbs
  • protein
  • subway chicken marinara sandwiches - made me feel better for about 2 hours every day after lunch, although felt sick eating them and was best done near an open window or outside if not freezing, same goes for:
  • lasagne

I felt sick almost all day and night for about 7 weeks, never threw up, but slept for at least 12 hours in every 24 hours. I couldn't bear anything even touching my throat as it would make me feel vomitous, so would wake up with the duvet near my chin and have to move it away. Dh thought I was a nutter sleeping with my hands clamping the duvet away from my neck! Weird I know...

FrannyandZooey · 15/11/2007 21:33

i can't EAT CHOCOLATE

[grump]

I'm nearly 13 weeks and the sickness is easing up. You must feed your desires Franny! Fortunately mine have mostly been fruit - mmm Granny Smiths apples and tangerines... (although I did drink a lot of ginger ale one week and Pepsi another). I have lost 1/2 stone in the first trimester. This week, I have been mostly eating cheese.

Ruty - if your constipation isn't caused by lack of exercise or fibre, then you need to drink LOTS. I'm downing about 2 litres of weedy orange squash a day and it's made a huge difference. I was even waking up in the night feeling dehydrated.

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2007 08:39

Slept reasonably well again and feel ok so far. I am hoping I can keep on top of this. But very scared it is going to pop up again when least convenient (ie when I am working - aaargh)

OP posts:
ruty · 16/11/2007 08:48

I'm drinking loads Duchess - about two bottles of 1.5 litres of Volvic a day. [i can only drink volvic at mo tap water makes me feel sick!] The only way i can keep on top of the constipation is to eat about ten nectarines a day. Tinned peaches don't do it. Apples don't do it. Getting nectarines from M&S which is incredibly expensive and un green but at least it works.
Still feeling very sick at nearly 15 weeks. Grrr. hope you continue to keep on top of it Franny. And Duchess you're coming out of it now!

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2007 08:53

oh god yes, water makes me feel ill as well

hadn't thought of getting mineral water

what about filtered water?

OP posts:
ruty · 16/11/2007 08:57

this will sound crazy but even evian makes me feel sick. Has to be volvic. Can't tell you why. Just is. Very odd.

ruty · 16/11/2007 09:19

and i simply can't drive in anything but a range rover. My ordinary citroen makes me feel sick.

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2007 10:28

LOl I can only wear Boden

if I try Primark I have an attack of the vapours
