I am 6 weeks pregnant and feeling sick as a dog. This is all new to me, wtf do I do? I feel starving but nauseous. Felt sick most of day, better after lunch, then threw up entire day's food about 4 pm, after which I felt MUCH better but now I am extremely hungry, just ate small amount of food and feel ill again. Is this just how it goes? Does it come and go or is this it now? Will it pass? Does it mean I am having a girl? Is there any hope in hell that I can pretend I am NOT pregnant when I am mooning around in a smock looking like death warmed up?

I'm on my last legs today ... maybe I ought to change my name to lastlegslarry . Going to pop a pill in a few minutes to see if that alleviates it. Didn't help that I smashed a bottle of tobasco sauce over the kitchen floor at 7.30am - ugh!

MsNewman · 14/11/2007 14:30

i spoke too soon, pretty bad today, diet of salt and vinegar crisps and full fat coke!

FrannyandZooey · 14/11/2007 18:18

oh god, I was so much better yesterday and then after feeling ropey first thing but managing to recover and have a morning at work, I just lay on the sofa after lunch and then had to crawl home and beg dp to stop working so I could go and sleep. Have just woken up and eaten dinner but I don't feel good at all. Oh god how can I manage to carry on with all my normal stuff without telling people and asking for help?I really didn't want to tell anyone yet.

mint sucking - I found that was key. Also carrying a plastic bag everywhere (lined with kitchen roll so the sick doesn't come out the holes at the bottom!) for public transport puke emergencies.

It is horrid morning sickness and the accompanying tiredness that comes with early pregnancy!

FrannyandZooey · 14/11/2007 18:25

jesus god

I have NO stamina for being ill

I feel so sorry for myself

yes I have been Fio, it seemed to work yesterday and then today I felt grim again

foxinsocks · 14/11/2007 19:17

extra strong mints

tbh, I think it's an individual thing. What do you normally eat when nauseous?

I also had to have a bowl of cereal before bed otherwise I'd wake up feeling 100x worse. That might be worth trying.

FrannyandZooey · 14/11/2007 20:40

I have been having diluted oj and just trying to eat every couple of hours

tbh when i feel really sick I just can't face anything, but when only slightly sick I eat anything I can manage to swallow

There is a horrendous stomach bug going round at the moment, could it be that? [hopeful]

Everybody I know who has had it has been so sick for 24hrs and then fine for a day and then it has come back again and they have been sick for another couple of days, tis very weird

If not try rich tea biscuits and don't let yourself get hungry it will be ten times worse

FrannyandZooey · 14/11/2007 21:04

nooooo

really? [clings on to vague hope]

I speak the truth, have you been otherwise ok? I think you would know if you had the bug, all shakey and grim and um stomach crampy and rather loose at the other end

bamzooki · 15/11/2007 08:39

With ds I could never decide at any one moment whether I had indigestion, was starving hungry or about to throw up. Would waver between the three all day, sometimes vomiting in the nauseaous parts, sometimes not. In the end I found that ginger capsules from the health food shop (couldn't stomach actually eating the ginger) helped me get through the day - too busy with dd/job/horse to be sick!
Oh and keeping a cheese sandwich in my pocket at all times to nibble when hunger was the strongest sensation!
Had this for best part of 5 months and felt very hard done to until my sister and BF were pregnant, both with appalling sickness.
BF suffered for most of her pregnancy with little sympathy from doc or GP. My sister, who lives in Canada and had had a previous miscarriage, was prescribed drugs by her doctor and was much better fir it. The idea of that scared me silly but her ds was totally fine, as is her new dd who she had the drugs for too.
Just shows how different the treatment is over the world.

bamzooki · 15/11/2007 08:41

Oh and I always found it to be much worse if I let myself get too tired - so rest/sleep when you need to (if possible!)

JackBlackRoady · 15/11/2007 08:53

Hello all, I have read all your posts and I sympathsise, and emphasise, and I got lots of tips. I am 15 weeks, and had nausea and a bit of being sick up to about 9 weeks, when it got much worse, and I was signed off work. I got Cyclizine from the doctor but it makes me so dopey and tired, and I am exhausted anyway, so it doesn't make me fit for work. I do try a lot of the things you have all mentioned, and there is no pattern to it - sometimes I am ok, other times retching continuously, other times sick as a dog and can't get off the bathroom floor. Another thread on MN suggested Acupuncture and I went for my first session on Tuesday, and I am going again today. It seemed to have a good effect - although need a bit more time to see if it is more than a day or two of respite. Just thought I would add that suggestion to the list!

Yes - it is much worse for me if i am tired. I sleep about 12 hours a night and have a kip in the day lots too. Pretty wussy!

I slept about 10 hours again last night and am hoping that will set me up for the day

Lully on another thread said give up wheat which could make sense, as I often feel crap after lunch which is always bread, and the one time I was actually sick straight after a meal was pasta

I do fancy potato salad so I think I will try to eat that today for dinner. God knows what I can have for lunch - oatcakes I suppose?

I gave up wheat completely when I was pregnant and it reduced all my bad symptoms. It was the first time I'd completely cut it out. Worth a try anyway.

Sorry you feel so bad. At least it's a good sign of hormones. I felt like punching people who said that to me but it's true.

so true I had to say it twice..

BOOquets · 15/11/2007 10:45

Fizzy drinks with sugar (not sweetener) eg Sprite, 7up. That way any fluids you keep down will include a little carbohydrate.
Handbag full of small sweets to suck all day. You'll feel like your teeth are rotting but it keeps your energy/blood sugar levels on a more even keel.
Don't cut down on salt - eat crisps too!

VictorianSqualor · 15/11/2007 13:28

Definitely drink fizzy pop, and try to drink them from cans as well, for some reason it is harder to gulp them down out of cans and that can stop you being as sick.
If you're anything like me you're so bloody thirsty that you want to gulp, but then it makes you sick.
Damn where is Peachy when you need her? She used to work for the Hyperemisis website people, so she knows everything

frostythesnowmum · 15/11/2007 13:31

Threw up in a car park last night
Having the worst day ever today
I can't remember the last time I ate fruit or veg other than potatoes - I just need stodge. My poor baby will be born looking like a cornish pasty

FrannyandZooey · 15/11/2007 13:32

Ugh, I am being sick as a dog all over the home page now

how nice for me

I am still ok so far today but I have often felt worse after lunch (which is why I am willing to believe the wheat thing). I am having oatcakes today so we will see.

I am not great with fizzy drinks or sweets at the best of times and I really can't face anything with sugar in atm. Dilute oj still going down well.

My lovely friend at the health food shop just gave me a Spearmint essential oil thing to sniff. I haven't felt bad enough yet to know if it helps but it smells gorgeous, and is like a talisman in my pocket
