I am 6 weeks pregnant and feeling sick as a dog. This is all new to me, wtf do I do? I feel starving but nauseous. Felt sick most of day, better after lunch, then threw up entire day's food about 4 pm, after which I felt MUCH better but now I am extremely hungry, just ate small amount of food and feel ill again. Is this just how it goes? Does it come and go or is this it now? Will it pass? Does it mean I am having a girl? Is there any hope in hell that I can pretend I am NOT pregnant when I am mooning around in a smock looking like death warmed up?

I couldnt eat mashed potato for the first few months, now I seem to crave them, with gravy, and tinned carrots and peas, I never eat tinned veg normally!

Franny I think having the 'talisman in your pocket' is a really important idea. Coping with this may be down to you finding one or two things which help you; and IME they work partly because you have faith in them and believe that they do

spugs · 15/11/2007 15:02

ah bless ms is horrid but remember it does normally get better at about 12 weeks if bnot a bit before. with mine i found avoiding tea and coffee helped, not letting myself get hungry, ginger ale/biscuits and hese sweets called preggy pops you can get of the internet. travel sickness bands are also supposed to work well. hope you feel bettter soon x

spugs · 15/11/2007 15:06

oh and i had no ms at all with my 1st pg, threw my guts up every morning then felt fine every day for 10 wks with my 2nd and with this one felt ill constantly for 10 wks but was never sick and mine are all girls

ibroughtcake · 15/11/2007 15:11

can't believe I forgot to mention travel sickness bracelet things

it may just be placebo but they really worked for me

here

ibroughtcake · 15/11/2007 15:12

sorry for dodge typing bfing lol

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:15

I really don't "get" this ms at all. I'm 16 wks today with no.3 and (touch wood) only just leaving the god-awful all-day nausea behind (altho it seems to still keep popping up at unexpected moments to keep me on my toes). With ds1&2 I NEVER felt ill, exhausted yes, but not this weirdy feeling of having 2 stomachs - one that wants to throw up and burp constantly, and the other that is constantly ravenenous and thinking about food all the time. It's like a sick (haha) joke. Why is it there for some pregnancies and not others? It's horrible

ibroughtcake · 15/11/2007 15:16

Because your having a dd thats why

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:21

ibroughtcake do you think so? That would be nice and would even up the numbers in the house a bit . Not that I really mind as long as healthy etc etc! I know what ds1&2 are like tho (3.2 and 18mths), I bet it's another cheeky little boy in there winding me up and surprising me just when I thought I was beginning to understand them....

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:22

You got me all excited now

JackBlackRoady · 15/11/2007 15:23

I've just been for the second lot of Acupuncture and I feel better than I did this morning - just eaten an apple! Amazing as I normally only keep toast and potatoes down.

ibroughtcake · 15/11/2007 15:23

With DD I was sooooo sick, I was still sick with DS but nowhere near like with DD

FrannyandZooey · 15/11/2007 15:25

There is no way I can't find out the sex at the 20 week scan. I have to know! Just can't imagine a tiny dd being in there. I had heard that about ms (what u said ibroughtcake) but bet someone will be along in a minute and say the opposite...like I said, I have to find out. At least then there will have been a "reason" to feeling so shitty for the last 3&half months iykwim.

JackBlackRoady · 15/11/2007 15:29

snooks i had a boy and no sickness so i am thinking this one must be a girl! be interesting to see if we are right...

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:31

That looks lovely F&Z wish I'd known about that 3 mths ago. I went through a phase of constantly eating apples (had to be very sour Coxes). As long as I was feeding my face my stomach seemed happy, it was when I had finished eating the ms came back again&again&again. You have my sympathy.

ibroughtcake · 15/11/2007 15:33

I am terrible at having to find out the sex, I did with both of mine at 16 wks

But in my defence we have a lovely private scaning place near us they are so professional and scan you for ages, show you everything and they even warm the jelly stuff up! So we treated ourselves to finding out each time.

I really admire people who have the self control not to find out it must be very exciting come labour day

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:35

Just read your earlier post JackBlack, see that you are 15weeks, sorry your ms isn't easing yet without help. Yes, same as you - I wonder if we are having DDS.......it makes sense doesn't it? I'm fed up of mooning 9and moaning) around feeling sorry for myself but hopefully the light is at the end of the tunnel. Hope you are feeling better too

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:38

Oh you're so lucky - I would love to find out this minute! Already had a 10week private scan because of earlier misc this summer so can't justify another really...am going to have to wait another loooong 4 weeks for that cold NHS jelly....

JackBlackRoady · 15/11/2007 15:38

Thank you! I am putting my faith in the acupuncture, and I keep smelling fresh lemon, and also if i stay still and not move too much that is the best thing for it - not great for going back to work though

JackBlackRoady · 15/11/2007 15:40

When I had my son 12 years ago in Bradford they would not tell you the sex of the baby. They said it was the policy. Does every hospital let you know now then?

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:43

Yes I found that lying flat on my back on the sofa worked wonders (at least temporarily). That sounds like a joke but it did stop the "travel-sick" feeling. Trouble is I've watched more Cbeebies that ds1&2 and that's saying something Will have to ration them from now on if I'm feeling better.

snooks · 15/11/2007 15:46

x=posts. Well I heard (years ago before I had children) that some hospitals had a policy of not telling the sex because some cultures prefer boys to girls and it might lead to terminations? Anyone feel free to tell me that this is balls because as I said it was before I had kids so I didn't take much notice because not relevant to me at the time. Just what I heard.
