I am 6 weeks pregnant and feeling sick as a dog. This is all new to me, wtf do I do? I feel starving but nauseous. Felt sick most of day, better after lunch, then threw up entire day's food about 4 pm, after which I felt MUCH better but now I am extremely hungry, just ate small amount of food and feel ill again. Is this just how it goes? Does it come and go or is this it now? Will it pass? Does it mean I am having a girl? Is there any hope in hell that I can pretend I am NOT pregnant when I am mooning around in a smock looking like death warmed up?

No i haven't, I'll give it a go. Strangely not having a problem with tea or coffee but don't want to drink those all day!! Thanks.

FrannyandZooey · 13/11/2007 08:57

Thanks everyone, hope all sufferers are feeling better soon

I was wildly sick again last night and then felt better most of the evening, went to bed at 9 and slept for 10 hours. Felt fine this morning, had half a banana and some diluted juice before getting up and felt fine, have had small breakfast and feel maybe not so great...hard to tell...it was this time yesterday I started to feel a bit rough.

I am so hoping it was a stomach bug. I don't know whether to try to eat lots (morning sickness) or not really eat much at all (stomach bug)!

Franny eat if you feel like it. Nibble at gentle things like dry toast or melba toast and see how you get on. Do you have to work today?

millie1 · 13/11/2007 09:46

I'm another 'sickie', 11w tomorrow, nausea morning, noon and night. Lots of wretching and a little vomiting. Off work for past 6w and couldn't even consider going back. Can't find a drink I like. Have tablets (cyclizine) but have only taken them on 3 occassions. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Am so worried it will go on and on and on. Stopped at 16w first time round and 14w last time but this is twins so have idea when it will stop and am praying hard that it does ... and soon. No tips at all cos nothing works for me. Hope everyone feels better soon!

hi f&z I think I'm about the same stage of pg as you and I'm feeling just the same, including stomach cramps, although haven't thrown up yet, thankfully. I seem to remember lots of nausea with ds1 and ds2 too. I actually lost weight in my first 3 months with ds1 as I couldn't bring myself to eat much. Ginger helped then, but not this time, so far.

I do try to make myself eat bland, dry food. I make myself muesli with oats and whatever else I can cope with, and eat it with rice milk in the morning. I think this helps with the blood sugar levels. Then for the rest of the day little and often helps to stop it getting too awful. Again, when pg with ds1, I used to take packets of biscuits and bags of nuts into work and nibble on them through the day.

I also used an acupressure band (the ones you get for travel sickness) so maybe that will help you? I keep thinking I should try to get one this time round, but haven't managed to yet!

Still haven't told anyone in rl that I'm pg (apart from the boys who treated it as a bit of a non-event ) so it's good to share moans with other mums here.

Hi Franny. It could be a stomach bug but it does sound quite like my ms. Mine came from nowhere at 6 weeks. I was sick at least 3 times a day and my bowels felt a bit dodgy too, did have stomach pains and bloating too, very uncomfortable. I found eating a little every couple of hours helped, even if only dry crackers. Some days were all I could eat. Was signed off for nearly 4 weeks. I got slightly better at about 13 weeks and I went back to work. Went through phases as well, when I only fancied tinned pineapple for example!
Now 17 weeks and still sick every morning but feel better after that. Have a stinking cold at the mo so not feeling great.

VictorianSqualor · 13/11/2007 10:19

I got sickness bands too, unfortunately they didnt work for me, so are sitting in my make-up bag teasing me with the idea of working!

PiratePip07 · 13/11/2007 10:38

Hi ladies,

I'm just coming up to 12 weeks and have been signed off work for the last 3 weeks with extreme nausea but attempting to go back tomorrow. Any suggestions for alternatives to ginger? I'm allergic to it! Tried flat coke and it helps a tiny bit, as do salt and vinegar crisps, and tried everything from eating little and often, snacking on dry carb type foods and the accupressure bands... but getting desperate!

FrannyandZooey · 13/11/2007 11:23

I am feeling quite perky really

(sorry for all those who are not)

praying it was just a bug

I have eaten little and often since I got up and am resting as well

have lost 4 pounds on the scales, that is not good is it. Mostly water loss I guess?

Sickness bands gave me pressure sore
I have vomited once this am and feel terrible. Gonna have a cornish pasty for lunch as I need stodge - I have not eaten a vegatable for weeks and have lost 5 pounds!

VictorianSqualor · 13/11/2007 11:34

Franny, I am 19 weeks, and have only put on 2/3lbs this whole pregnancy so far, normally I would have put tons on (this is my3rd pregnancy, and I look huge) but I lost so much weight due to the vomiting.
It isn't unusual to lose weight in early pregnancy anyway, but if you don't continue to feel better (and I hope you do!) and keep losing weight then you should go to your doctors about it.

PiratePip07 · 13/11/2007 13:50

Franny over the last 2 weeks I've lost 6lbs (I was only 8.5 stone to start with)...mw said it's fine as long as I'm eating something. She said it's a great sign for the pregnancy and will get better once the sickness wears off...whenever that may be!

FrannyandZooey · 13/11/2007 14:13

I feel fine now

I am such a fraud

I feel so for all you poor poor sick ladies

ruty · 13/11/2007 14:17

glad you're feeling better Franny. If a bit

FrannyandZooey · 13/11/2007 14:19

yes I am very sorry

I shall sit over here and try not to look too healthy

(do you think it must definitely have been a bug? Or can it come and go like this?)

OP posts:
millie1 · 13/11/2007 14:45

Make the most of feeling healthy F&Z ... it can come and go. With my first two pregs, I had 'days off' which really helped me to feel normal again, even if only for a day, this time round I'm not having that break .

Good luck with work tomorrow PiratePip07 ... I feel guilty for having been off so long but at the moment can hardly put one foot in-front of the other so work's out.

SHEENA1 · 13/11/2007 14:51

got told if you have a ginger snap or tea biscuit before getting out of bed that helps .. it worked with me for about a week

ruty · 13/11/2007 15:03

i felt much better as i was coming to the end of three months and then it came back now [nearly 4 months] with a vengeance. It is all very odd.

FrannyandZooey · 13/11/2007 18:14

ds just refused to eat his dinner, said everything tasted funny

not really in character for him at all

I reckon he is getting it now

OP posts:
ruty · 13/11/2007 18:20

bug then! poor ds tho...

Kif · 13/11/2007 18:33

hullo.

a) I guess girl. My daughter put me on a drip in hospital with dehydration, my son barely rumbled my belly.

b) See above - the important thing if it gets really bad is FLUID. Not food - baby needs no extra calories at this stage - FLUID. Concentrate on sipping water if you can't eat & consider rehydration sachets

c) See above - seek help (A&E if no luck with gp) if you're vomiting several times a day 7 can't keep aything down. It's 'normal' and they can't do much to help, but a saline drip is wonderfully restorative when you're vomiting bile.

d) my personal top tips; avoid cars/transport; low fat diet; salted popcorn; never get up withou t eating - biscuits by the bed always; rest; don't give up eating - little and often; look forward to losing weight 'naturally' (?!) in your first trimester - so less to get rid off after baby. Apparently sickness= strong pregnancy.

p.s. I've scared you more now, haven't I.

PiratePip07 · 13/11/2007 18:47

Thanks Millie! Going to keep a stack of biscuits and flat coke with me and see what happens! How long have you been off for?

Glad you're feeling much better f&z!

PiratePip07 · 13/11/2007 18:51

Just read your earlier post millie. MW told me to not feel at all guilty about having to take time off because pregnancy is too precious to jeopardise (I was told I'd never have kids...proved them wrong ). Totally agree with her! And you're growing twins!! Even more reason to rest! But hope you feel better soon.

MsNewman · 13/11/2007 21:17

I feel guilty because i feel much better today and its the first day in 6 weeks i haven't been sick but i'm only 9 weeks - should I be worried? Also, i tried the sickness bands, they made me feel worse.

frostythesnowmum · 14/11/2007 09:50

well i feel like shit again
had porridge for breakfast as i thought the stodge might help - it didn't.
Biscuits don't work for me - nothing does
