Morning sickness (sorry)

I am 6 weeks pregnant and feeling sick as a dog. This is all new to me, wtf do I do? I feel starving but nauseous. Felt sick most of day, better after lunch, then threw up entire day's food about 4 pm, after which I felt MUCH better but now I am extremely hungry, just ate small amount of food and feel ill again. Is this just how it goes? Does it come and go or is this it now? Will it pass? Does it mean I am having a girl? Is there any hope in hell that I can pretend I am NOT pregnant when I am mooning around in a smock looking like death warmed up?

I started at 6 weeks and now at 10 and no better - nausea is worse than vomiting which only happens once or twice a day. Nothing works for me - have tried everything Now i'm just spending my days lying on the couch and in bed and crying every night when dh comes home! I was like this last time and it eased at 13 weeks. I had a boy.

FrannyandZooey · 12/11/2007 19:08

My stomach hurts, low down, does that sound like morning sickness? Really trying to work out if this is a bug or not

Congratulations! Well, the good news is that it prabably will get better. I am 14 wks and (fingers crossed) mine has pretty much gone away now. I found eating little and often was reasonably helpful. And sipping water. And often the only thing I could eat was (sorry if this is something you hate) tinned fruit. A hangover from my childhood perhaps. Mandarins mostly... So you could try that.

Mummywannabe · 12/11/2007 19:27

franny and zooey, i had morning sickness for last week but caught the dreaded bug thats been doing the rounds and my god was i ill, lets just say had not control of either end, newly married (Sept) so think dh wondered what he had let himself in for!

getting better now though, found small amount of lucozade made me feel better enough to try some dry cornflakes (yum yum )and then that made feel better enough for toast etc etc. I asked everyone if it would hurt baby but all said no. hope you feel better soon

Fireflytoo · 12/11/2007 19:38

Phone NHS Direct and get them to help you sort the symptoms. They are very good on there. 0845 4647..... You sound really miserable you poor woman.

cleaninglady · 12/11/2007 19:39

whoever named it morning sickness was having a larf! mine lasted all day with both of mine (a boy and a girl) exactly same with each but i did try and eat through it little and often all day which improved things slightly! I was told that its a sign of strong hormones which is a good thing these days will pass though you have my sympathy! I was "outed" as had the attractive pasty face look and vomit breath permanantely

cleaninglady · 12/11/2007 19:41

Your stomach might be hurting from retching/vomiting maybe? but I second the "ring NHS" advice

ekra · 12/11/2007 19:43

Ooooh - I remember eating tinned mandarin orange pieces when I was pregnant last time and had horrible m/s from 5 - 14 weeks.

Franny - could you have pains in your stomach because of having being sick. Or did you have the pains beforehand?

Nothing much worked for my m/s last time round. I did get into the habit of drinking half a chocolate omplan every morning. I'd have cravings for all types of food but I could never eat much. Some people take vitamin B6 and gain relief from m/s with that. I think 25mg in the morning and 25mg at night.

Rest too. Tiredness certainly made my m/s worse and it is much harder to find the time to rest when you have an older child to take care of.

complan

Fireflytoo · 12/11/2007 19:56

...and complain

VictorianSqualor · 12/11/2007 19:57

Franny7XZoey, I have had morning sickness with every one of my pregnancies, am 18weeks now and this is my third.
I find flat coke helps, I couldn't eat for the first 3 months, nor could a few people on my antenatal thread, but that was hyperemis, which the doctor can give you something for.
If you are suffering stomach aches, I would suggest it is not morning sickness but a tummy bug (my fingers are crossed here for you!)
If however it is morning sickness, you need to be really careful with dehydration.
If you get to the point where you really can't bare it anymore I would suggest looking here to see if it is possibly hyperemisis, then go to the docs armed with as much info as possible.
Eat what you can manage, and what it is you fancy, do not worry about the baby in a nutritional sense, it will take everything it needs from you no matter what you eat.
Even now I can only eat small meals and am sick nearly every night a few hours after dinner, but I don't feel as sick as I did.
I hope you feel better soon.

FrannyandZooey · 12/11/2007 20:10

Thank you all I am drinking diluted orange juice which is good

still stomach pains but definitely low down, nothing to do with the baby I am 99% sure

feeling kind of desperate to hear how common this appalling sickness is

what is wrong with our bodies that it does this when we have children?

bubblagirl · 12/11/2007 20:12

i hadkness al through pregnancy couldnt move for first 3 months but ginger biscuits helped ginger in general is supposed to be good

ice cold water with slice of lemon helped bottles and bottles of gaviscon helped with heaqrtburn lol

but everyone is different just trying to eat little and often and pray your one of the lucky ones it'll just dissapear lol

VictorianSqualor · 12/11/2007 20:30

Apparently it means we have strong hormones or something, means its a good healthy pregnancy

MsNewman · 12/11/2007 21:14

I am 9 weeks pregnant and sick sick sick. My gynaecologist gave me pills which have helped with the nausea but am still sick morning and evenings, although it is getting a lot better. I can keep food down but not liquids, having a nightmare finding a drink I like, water is the worst. Lemon barley seems to work a bit. I can't bear the fact this may go on beyond 12 weeks. I sympathise with everyone.

SHEENA1 · 12/11/2007 21:16

Hi I was sick for all of 9 months with my 1st it was hell i was in and out of hospital and hardly ate a thing that was nearly 2 yrs ago and now i am pregnant again and i have been sick since day 1 i am now 25 weeks and it seams to have calmed down my 1st was a girl and now i am having a boy so i dont think it matters but i have learned that eating nothing will do u no good so now i am eating properly and feel great its better to eat than starve your self .
