Yay, new thread.

I'm due 26th Aug, baby #1 and he's a boy (it was initially a Sep due date, honest!)

Kirky658 · 25/03/2021 15:28

@adventuresawait wow what an exciting day tomorrow!!! 😍

Do any of you ladies have a dog? I'm a bit worried about how ours will react to the baby. He's only 8 months so still a pup, and because of lockdown he hasn't had a lot of interaction with kids - because our family relatives live an hour away and he can't go near any locally due to social distancing. I'm concerned that:

  1. he will act out as he isn't centre of attention
  2. he will be aggressive with the baby as he doesn't know what it is
  3. that his routine will be disrupted as the baby will wake him up at night when it cries then he will want to go out

He's not an aggressive dog in the slightest, he's only little 7kgs, but he has a loud Bark! Any suggestions as to how to make the transition easier would be greatly received ❤️🤔

@Kirky658 I have 3 dogs and just going to wing it! We only got the third in October as didn't think we could have children and I wanted a forever baby (he is a 6 year old rescue but only 3kg)

Our other dogs took to
Him immediately because he was so small and no threat (more fool them) hoping they do the same with the baby to be honest.

Biggest change for them will be no more sleeping on our bed with us. We are
Moving from a Downstairs room to upstairs though so hope that helps them as we can do that sooner.

Things I've always heard is get things out in advance for them to get used to, so make basket, take pram on walks, playing baby crying sounds.

Work on the basics of no and leave and that will help with general obedience.

It is more than doable and he will be a bit older by the time baby comes.

Poppins2016 · 25/03/2021 15:37

Haha, @Noodles4Me, you could still give birth in September! I was due 25th Sept with my first and eventually gave birth Oct 6th... Grin

My due date for this baby is supposedly Sept 4th (EDD by ultrasound) but it's slightly out... based on that date, it would be an immaculate conception as I would have had to have conceived a couple of days before we even had sex that cycle!
So I'm very much placing the emphasis on the Estimated part of "Estimated Due Date"... I think I much prefer the European system of having a 'due month'!

I had my 16 week midwife appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat! Nice healthy 150 bpm. I really like this midwife (she's one of two who will be looking after me through this pregnancy); they have a hub approach here which means the midwives rotate between community and hospital, so there's a chance she'll actually deliver my baby!

@bubbles1st thanks hun that's good to know! He's very good at sit, stay, leave it, so that's a good start at least 😊

AdventuresAwait · 25/03/2021 15:42

Thank you @CherylLW, how was it? I'm not sure what to expect as it seems to be different in different areas. Really want to hear the heartbeat!

Yes @Kirky658! 🥳

CherylLW · 25/03/2021 15:48

@AdventuresAwait it was good, I had a student midwife in with me and the midwife so took a little longer but I was lucky enough to hear the heartbeat 😍 it took a while and I panicked but she said they are so tucked up still and with the anterior placenta too!

I’m in the south and she said they always listen to the heartbeat here. She was surprised when I said some trusts weren’t doing it at the moment! The heartbeat was 160bpm... so fast and I recorded it on my phone too ❤️

AdventuresAwait · 25/03/2021 15:49

@Kirky658, I have a dog. 4 years old but still quite excitable. Great with children but not been around a baby. I read somewhere to play the sound of a baby crying from the moses basket/ car seat/ baby chair to get them used to it a few weeks beforehand. We're going to try that I think.

Rach921 · 25/03/2021 15:57

Just been catching up. Sorry I haven’t posted much recently. Work has been crazy and we are moving house next week so it’s been a bit relentless! Glad to see everyone is doing well ☺️ X

Jay3004 · 25/03/2021 16:11

@Kirky658 I’ve got a 10 year old beagle and I’m mega nervous about how he’s going to react. He’s generally really good with my friends kids but he’s so spoiled, sleeps in bed with us and has been my baby for the last 10 years so I think he’ll be well and truly put out by it Sad

bewitchingnight · 25/03/2021 16:35

@CherylLW @Poppins2016 so lovely you both got to hear the heartbeats, must have been so great to hear. My 16 week appointment is next Tuesday, I hope they do that here too Smile

CherylLW · 25/03/2021 16:44

@bewitchingnight I was quite surprised when she said ‘let’s have a listen’ as I wasn’t expecting them to as so many places aren’t! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you ❤️

unicornpower · 25/03/2021 16:46

Thanks @Poppins2016 you superstar!

@Kirky658 how is he with children normally? Has he met many? We've got two dogs, a 3 year old Labrador who looks like a polar bear hes so big and a 15 year old Chihuahua who fortunately lives with my parents as he was too old to uproot when we moved and he lives out his retirement with them which has worked well as I dont know how he'd cope with a baby full time. The lab loves children so much and has met lots of babies and toddlers etc but my MIL has said she will look after him when I go into labour and for a few days afterwards so we can settle with baby and then she'll bring him round to introduce them and get us all settled! Have a little sniff of baby and then just wing it and make sure to give him lots of cuddles and love too so he doesn't feel left out. That's the only advice I have haha

Has anyone got really itchy boobs? Mine are driving me mad! My bio oil came today so I can't wait to put it on. Exciting news too, I bought a new car! Mine was only on lease and is up in a few weeks so got a nice baby safe mobile- I'm so excited!

Rach921 · 25/03/2021 16:50

@CherylLW that’s so amazing that you got to hear the heartbeat 🥰

Is anyone at the annoying stage where you don’t have much of a bump but nothing fits? I ordered a pair of jeans in the next size up figuring I could wear then after baby is here as my jeans are too tight but even they don’t fit! It’s so frustrating! Also my boobs are popping out of my bras 😂

I’ve put on minimal scale weight but I’m getting annoyed that clothes don’t fit. It’ll be easier once it’s warmer and I can wear floaty dresses, although currently my legs are offensively pale so I don’t want to subject anyone to that 😂

Just getting a bit disheartened with it

Hopefulmummie · 25/03/2021 16:54

@Kirky658 we have 2 dogs one is a beagle who's only 1 and still quite hyper but anytime she's been with young kids she's really good and patient.

They are both spoilt and sleep in our bed so not sure what will happen when baby vomes

There are alot of articles you can read online about pets and babies
