Have you girls seen? The pfeizer and moderns vaccines have been approved for use in pregnant women over 12 weeks. Woohoo!

2021mumma · 16/04/2021 18:22

@RadDarwazeh I saw this. I’m not sure if I’m willing to take the risk if I’m honest. No babies have been born yet to women that have had it, we are at a higher risk of blood clots being pregnant. I’m planning on wfh till I go on maternity so not high risk I hope. Will defo have it after.

RadDarwazeh · 16/04/2021 18:25

I'm frontline and see about 20-30 patients a day four days a week. I'm in PPE but I still want the vaccine. It's true, we all need to consider risks and what's best for you on an individual basis 👍

Squibble84 · 16/04/2021 18:27

@RaeRae84 @CherylLW congrats on your scans! It’s such a relief once you’re past the 20 week mark I think!

@Bubbles1st that does seem quite early to be encouraged to have an epidural - plus it’s different for each woman and each labour, surely that decision wouldn’t be made until labour was established depending on how you were feeling? Maybe he’s biased as he’s an anaesthetist and that’s what he does! See what your midwife says but even if you had it in your plan, I’m sure you could change your mind when it came to it! It was never in my birth plan to have an epidural but then when it came to it, I was begging for one! 😂

@Geegee20 I’m still breast feeding my 19 month old (never planned to go this long! 😅) and for me the biggest pro was milk being on tap, without having to prep anything. I did buy some specific breast feeding tops but actually found the best thing was just to have a button down vest with a top/jumper over it. I could just open the buttons and once DD was latched on, I’d let the top or jumper fall down and it would keep everything covered! Obviously there’s no need to keep things hidden away, even in public, but I found it more comfortable that way!

Cons were being a human milking machine 24/7! Cluster feeding where she would literally feed for 2-3 hours non-stop! I’m not gonna lie, the early days of bf for me were very intense and I almost quit many times, especially with the pain of latching on, but after a few weeks or so things started to get easier.

Geegee20 · 16/04/2021 19:53

@Squibble84 thank you.
Yeh that's the good thing about especially with me having 3 other children i thought be easier saves me job making bottles an everything else, so am.defo gunner give it ago and hopefully baby will latch on an were all good to go, yeh I think I'll definitely be doing the same with the vest am.top thing. I just feel so nervous just getting me tit out an feeding in front of strangers. I feel abit like that about family I think I'll go to the room sometimes when people ar where especially my oh family haha. But I suppose we will see what happens at the time, thanks for your advice x

Taybz · 16/04/2021 20:00

I have to say, breastfeeding is one of the things I'm looking forward to the most! My sister's always told me how painful it is initially in particular but since I was a kid all I thought about was the beautiful bond between mummy and baby!
@Squibble84 @FTEngineerM as you're still breastfeeding and still conceived, I'm assuming you don't breastfeed throughout the day? Ignore my ignorance but all I hear is you can't get pregnant whilst bf unless it's only once a day. Is this right? Haven't even had my first munchkin and I'm already thinking about conceiving the next 😅

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 20:12

I was pretty textbook I think @Taybz we knew we wanted another so just let nature take its course since we didn’t know when I was ovulating or what ever. After I started weaning at 6mo this DC took to it like a dick to water I think we conceived when DC was 6.5m old if I’ve got my dates right in my head. NHS website says it can work up to 6m.

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 20:12

Jesus not dick obviously🤭duck.

Squibble84 · 16/04/2021 20:22

@FTEngineerM 😂😂😂

@Taybz I think once your period starts up again, then you can conceive. Some women who were bf in my September 19 group had their cycles start again after a few months. My cycles started back at 7 months when I stopped feeding DD as much throughout the night. I still bf DD during the day at times, especially if she’s teething and she still gets a night and morning feed.

CherylLW · 16/04/2021 20:34

Weird question.... I’ve been feeling movements for about 2 weeks on and off but tonight for the past 2-3 hours it’s felt like the baby is vibrating/purring on and off!! Is this just me 🙈

@FTEngineerM that really made me giggle... got to love autocorrect 😂

Geegee20 · 16/04/2021 20:42

So do you not have a period if your bf or have I just read that whole conversation wrong 😂😂😂

Noodles4Me · 16/04/2021 20:44

@2021mumma I agree. For me, it's too risky to have the vaccine yet until there's plenty babies born healthy to vaccinated mums.

Just my opinion of course. Having said that, struggling to get the bloody whooping cough jab so shouldn't worry about Covid one Confused

Taybz · 16/04/2021 20:48

@FTEngineerM 🤣🤣🤣 you gotta love autocue! So did you conceive as soon as your period came back? Dh and I are discussing when to start trying for the next one as it took as a while to conceive this one. He reckons it could take 3 months and I'm like no way!!

Taybz · 16/04/2021 21:01

Not autocue, autocorrect 🤦‍♀️

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 21:04

@geegee20 I think everyone’s different from what I’ve read on the various groups, I had super light period every 2 months ish they were certainly not proper periods.

@Squibble84 made a good point about feeding at night, that was on the NHS website as well I think something about hormones that produced milk stop ovulation and those hormones are highest at night so less night feedings = less milk producing hormone (that might need fact checking 🤔).

😂@Taybz is also going to be in the Sept 2022 birth club by the sounds of it.

@Noodles4Me & @2021mumma I’ve been feeling the same as you at the moment, I haven’t been offered it nor will I anytime soon but I have been thinking. I’ve never been like this with any other vaccine, I can’t quite work out why I feel like this with this one.

KHR1 · 16/04/2021 21:05

All the comments on BF have been really helpful to read! My DD would latch last time but hoping to give it another try this time. A little nervous about the idea of feeding infront of people though

@RadDarwazeh oh I hadn't seen this! I'm in two minds about whether I would want it or not. I'm mixing a lot as a teacher and my husband can't wfh either and I'm so anxious about everything opening up and all the mixing everyone will be doing. Although I guess until I'm offered it I wouldn't have to make a choice

Taybz · 16/04/2021 21:07

@Squibble84 that's quite early then, hoping this will be similar for me as we'd like to start trying as soon as we can once ds is born. I know that sounds mad to some but it took us a year to conceive so we gotta get the ball rolling!

Girls, Re: vaccines, I personally don't think I feel comfortable yet particularly as my consultant told me only recently that all pregnant women already have some clotting in their blood and that it needs to be kept in check. Personally wouldn't want to take the risk of any additional potential blood clots. I am going to discuss this with the midwife though to get a 2nd opinion and make a final decision.

Sophieandtiger · 16/04/2021 21:36

@Geegee20 yes it varies, had a baby at the same time as my friend, both full time breastfeeding, her period came back 3 months after birth, mine was 18 months later (6 months after I stopped breastfeeding completely). I think I was more of an exception though.

Very interesting and useful to hear everyone's opinions about the covid vaccine, ut feels like such a big decision! I'm also erring on the side of caution at the moment, both DH and I work from home, so I think it's all going to be down to individual risk.

@CherylLW thank you so much! I think my midwife probably just forgot to mention to me it would be a possibility after my scan too, it seems to be the way they do things now. But if they don't offer me the whooping cough vaccine then I'll make an appointment.

Mamabearwhere · 16/04/2021 21:51

@Geegee20 I breastfed my first until 15 months, had intended to only bf until 6 months then switch to formula but she outright refused all bottles. I spent a fortune on different bottles and nibs and eventually gave up and just went along with it. I loved the bond and connection, the accessibility, flights were so easy because she’d just feed and it was generally “easier”. Cons for me were that I couldn’t shift weight easily because I was STARVING whilst bfeeding even though people tell you how much weight you lose when u bf it didn’t work for me that way. I also got really tired of being the only one to feed and I had a particularly terrible sleeper so she was up all night cluster feeding for a long time. When I went back to work at 13 months I was still waking up 3/4 times a night for feeds. I remember some nights crying to myself and wondering when I’d get some rest.

My second hated the breast and I struggled to make it to 3 months. I was also suffering with PPD so I had much less desire and interest in doing anything or making it work so I just gave up and gave formula. She was much more settled and slept better but have no idea if it had anything to do with formula vs breast.

I don’t know what my plan is this time. I’d like to combo feed from the beginning if possible but I know midwifes will be at me with their usual advice of “exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 weeks”.

MrsTD88 · 16/04/2021 21:59

@Mamabearwhere I am interested in combo feeding too this time around, exclusively breastfeeding just didn't work for me or baby last time around. If you find any useful info on combo feeding please share. 🙏 I'm going to start looking into it more after my 20 week scan.

SP2Bx · 16/04/2021 22:34

This bf info is all really interesting, thanks ladies!

I'm feeling like combo feeding is what I'd like to do too, as I want to breastfeed but down want it being solely down to me and having no freedom from it! But am just going to go with the flow as best I can and not put too much pressure on anything 🤞🏼

2021mumma · 16/04/2021 23:02

I breastfed my son for just under 2 years and hope to do it again. Please look out and ask if your baby has tongue tie - I knew what to look for and it was confirmed before we left hospital as he just wasn’t latching. He needed his tongue snipped and it was done under a week old. Luckily friends told me to pack breast shields in my hospital bag as it was the only way to get him to latch before the snip. I’m going to do the same again - packing the breast shields and looking out for tongue tie x

AdventuresAwait · 17/04/2021 07:47

Thanks for all the advice and experience sharing everyone. It's really helpful.

@2021mumma, I now have breast shields on my list and know to look out for tongue tie... thank you!

NEW THREAD LINK

As we are getting close to a new thread thought I'd create it with the list as the first post.

Here it is.

Hey ladies, just popping on to join the vaccine chat. For me as I'm under 30 I won't be allowed the AZ vaccine so it will be either moderna or Pfizer. To be honest with my DH working in a school it will be a lot safer for me to have it and it would be good for the baby to benefit from the antibodies too. It's a difficult decision but I'd definitely rather have it and be able to have more freedom on mat leave.
@bubbles1st thanks for the new thread ❤️
