Can anyone describe what labour felt like to them when it first came on? @AnxiousAnnie86 @Blossom428 - & others?

Been having what I can best describe as varying "trapped wind" sort of pain since before I made and ate dinner, but it seems far too continuous to be likely to be labour. Had 2 breaks from it of about 20 mins, then a further 20 mins or so of trapped wind type pain. Currently lying on the bed with a full ache in my left groin (weird I know) but I'd put money on it just being a very prolonged bad stomach. However, it's got me wondering what the real thing feels like!

AnxiousAnnie86 · 24/08/2021 21:51

@TheOrangeMonster before the actual
Contractions I was getting like sharp pains in my cervix like it was being kicked from the inside, then my bump would go really really hard and a funny shape! That kept happening and it would take my breath away x

@TheOrangeMonster with my son I mistakenly thought I was having on and off diarrhoea cramps. I kept going to the toilet and nothing was happening and then I realised they were actually contractions because of the break between the cramps 🙈

I have been having contractions since around 10.30 this eve about 7-10 mins apart and they feel like braxton hicks but more painful across my tummy and back. Just hoping this isn't a practice run 🤞🏻. My OH is snoring away next to me in bed at the moment and I'm jealous as I want to sleep 🤦🏻‍♀️

Let us know how you get on 🤞🏻

TheOrangeMonster · 25/08/2021 08:09

@SS123456 that sounds really promising, good luck, I really hope by now you're on the way! 🌸 keep us posted!!

For me it was exactly what I said it was - just got me wondering 🤣 FTM problems....

TheOrangeMonster · 25/08/2021 13:32

Update after this morning - I'm now having a planned C section next Thursday. Long story, but nervous, generally a bit of a rollercoaster.... 😅

Hope all is well with everyone.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 25/08/2021 14:54

@TheOrangeMonster oooh is that a week tomorrow! Planned c sections are so calm! Ahhh you know your baby's birthday! X

Oooooh @SS123456 have things progressed to more contractions? Is it the real deal?

@TheOrangeMonster next Thursday ... we'll at least you have a fixed date and can prepare yourself for that!! Hope everything is okay for the reasonings why you have to have it. My recovery from a c section has actually been really good, so hopefully yours will be too xx

TheOrangeMonster · 25/08/2021 16:01

@AnxiousAnnie86 @Blossom428 I'm glad you both had positive experiences either side of it.

Reasonings are sensible - I'm not upset about it, just feel a bit switched around on myself as initially I was preparing mentally to have one, then they said it was probably going to be fine, then after today they changed back to the original plan.

I know some ladies feel very upset about being deprived of a "normal" labour & birth but I don't see having a C section as a "lesser" feat and I know they'd not have advised it unless it was the safer option for baby & me, so...yeah.

Just got to get my head back around it!

Can't wait to hear if @SS123456 has news!

Blossom428 · 25/08/2021 21:15

That's it, if it's best for you and baby then you've just got to do what's right @TheOrangeMonster either way, your baby is born and it is the most precious moment of your life 🥰 at least you can have everything all set for the day of- that was my biggest fear just the unknown of when things would happen.
How many weeks will you be?

TheOrangeMonster · 25/08/2021 22:30

@Blossom428 I'll be 39+1. I'm going to cross all my fingers and toes for a quick discharge because the postnatal ward at my local is MASSIVE and I'm a bit worried about baby catching Covid (and me, but more the baby!)

SS123456 · 26/08/2021 06:21

@AnxiousAnnie86 @TheOrangeMonster @Blossom428 it was the real deal! I had her yesterday at 12.38pm and got home at 10pm last night 😁❤️. She weighed 7lb 2oz and is called Jessie. My contractions started getting stronger yesterday morning around 9am and when we got to the hospital at 10.30am I was fully dilated 😱. I had her in the birthing pool with gas and air. She came out with her hand up by her face so that caused a slight tear but it didn't need stitches thankfully

@SS123456 Aw HI Jessie! Congratulations! Well done @SS123456, sounds like you had the birth experience you were hoping for? How are you feeling now?

TheOrangeMonster · 26/08/2021 10:03

@AnxiousAnnie86 do you think that was a Covid thing (the rapid discharge) or did you just recover enough super fast? They told me yesterday 1-2 days but the leaflet they gave me says 3-4 so I'm not sure. I'm also a bit worried about my milk coming in - do you reckon I should take my pump with me?

AnxiousAnnie86 · 26/08/2021 11:00

@TheOrangeMonster no I don't think so my midwife said 24 hours, they did say I could stay longer but we pushed to get home.

I didn't take my pump, it's only collustrum for a couple of days, which is all they need then milk comes in about days 3-4 xx

Awww wow very quick labour!!! Congratulations @SS123456 she's too cute!! Xx

SS123456 · 31/08/2021 01:44

@Blossom428 @AnxiousAnnie86 @TheOrangeMonster thanks ladies! It's been a bit of a hard few days so far as I'm struggling with breastfeeding. I've been put on antibiotics today as I have mastitis in both breasts and the midwife thinks Jessie could have a posterior tongue tie. I have booked an appointment with a tongue tie specialist to take a look on Thursday so hopefully they can help 🤞🏻

@TheOrangeMonster good luck for Thursday! So exciting!! 😊

Blossom428 · 01/09/2021 20:48

@SS123456 I'm sure you are doing amazing... it's such a hard journey and one I wish I could have done. You just got to do what's right for you and your little one.

Good luck tomorrow @TheOrangeMonster - I say try and sleep/ rest tonight but I can imagine it being very hard knowing you will be meeting your little bundle tomorow 🥰 xxx

AnxiousAnnie86 · 01/09/2021 21:43

Thanks everyone! @AnxiousAnnie86 @Blossom428 @SS123456
Siân Ruth was born today at 12.30, 8lb 11oz. She's been pretty chill so far since - I think she's only shouted three times for about six seconds and she appears to be latching ok (doesn't hurt at the moment). First thing she did was a wee, second thing was a massive poo. 👍 😂

SS123456 · 02/09/2021 20:36

@TheOrangeMonster congratulations that's amazing news! ❤️. She was a big girl wasn't she! So glad all is going well 😁

Blossom428 · 02/09/2021 20:39
