A midwife told me this and i have a friend who has just had her third dd and she said her labour with this one was hellish, ten times worse than either of the last two.

Just wondered if others agreed?

zubb · 02/11/2007 15:07

No - my third was easiest and quickest.

sweetkitty · 02/11/2007 15:08

please do not say this

lilibet · 02/11/2007 15:09

nope, third eaiest, second by far the worst

BurrrrrrrrrrningNbg · 02/11/2007 15:09

la la la not listenting

scorpio1 · 02/11/2007 15:10

not going to read this thread (due in april with db3)

expatinscotland · 02/11/2007 15:10

yikes!

i hope not.

my first labour was 24 hours long with forceps delivery.

TooTicky · 02/11/2007 15:11

No, you can't generalise about this.

Londoner · 02/11/2007 15:19

No don't agree, and for what it's worth my 3rd was fantastic, and I felt great afterwards, I found that each pg and labour was different though. Worrying is an inevitable part of every pregnancy but I would say try not to waste too much energy on worrying about this. Am surprised at friends telling you such things, people can be so tactless can't they!

Dinosaur · 02/11/2007 15:24

No, absolutely not - mine was by far the best of the three, although that's a bit like saying it was the best car crash of three, or something ie it still hurt like hell...

sweetkitty · 02/11/2007 15:26

lol @ dinosaurs description

DD1 was 4h 20min
DD2 was 2h 30 mins

both described as fast and furious and sheer hell

so if this one sticks it will be 1h 15 mins by by reckoning actually I'm hoping I wake up one morning and the baby is there between my legs all born

Idobelieveinfairies · 02/11/2007 15:27

i thought so til i had no.4!..lol

pagwatch · 02/11/2007 15:27

No not at all!
My third was quickest althopugh actually scarily quick.
But I knew pretty much what to expect and my short term recovery was much quicker than the other two ( Gave birth at 3.00pm - home by 8.00pm
Great.
Why do people always insist on sprteading stupid scary thories when the truth is each birth is different and most anecdotal patterns are , frankly, bollox

Dinosaur · 02/11/2007 15:29

kitty, my third was actually slower than my second, but that was a good thing in that it was not so fast and furious

with DS2 I did not really start to have contractions until about 6 p.m. and he was born at 8.20 p.m.

whereas with DS3 I started having contractions at around 1 p.m. and he was not born until 9.15 p.m.

gibberish · 02/11/2007 15:29

No, the first was truly horrendous. 4th was awful too - ended in EC. 2nd and 3rd not great but a bit better than the other two. 3rd was definitely not the worst.

oooggs · 02/11/2007 15:30

no 1st was hardest 2&3 were twins and they were much easier

oliviaelanasmum · 02/11/2007 15:30

My 3rd was the most painfull and i swore i wouldnt do it again but 6 weeks later im slowly changing my mind
dd1 was 7lb 9 oz gas & air pethedine 12hr labour
dd2 6lb 7 oz gas & air water birth 6hrs 10 mins
dd3 8lb 11oz gas & air pethedine 7 hrs 55 mins

CatIsSleepy · 02/11/2007 15:31

I haven't had 3 but my sister has and her third was the easiest-no epidural and no intervention (ventouse etc) unlike the first two.

preggersagain · 02/11/2007 15:31

oh good was starting to wonder why no-one had ever told me this before!

Peachy · 02/11/2007 15:32

Define worst?

DS3 was MUCH quicker than the otehrs are once labour satrted was a fairly smooth ride with no trauma, although because it was fast it did hurt at the end I think.

Shall tell you about No 4 in the Spring

FoghornLeghorn · 02/11/2007 15:33

I was my mum's 3rd (and last) and she said I was bay far the worst of the 3 - my SIL has had 3 and had all of them in under an hour and my BF has just had her 3rd 2 weeks ago, she ended up being induced but once got going was over in a flash.

Could go either way I reckon - too late to worry about it now Good Luck BTW

Idobelieveinfairies · 02/11/2007 15:33

1st 8lb 11, gas and air...long but copable.
2nd 8lb 14, gas and air...short but painful.
3rd 10lb, gas and air...induced and painful.
4th 8lb 5, g&a,pethidine,epidural, induced, lonnngggg and excruciating.
5th&6th (twins) c-section, easy as pie!
7th&8th (twins) c-section, easy as pie!

FoghornLeghorn · 02/11/2007 15:34

Jeez Idobelieveinfaries, Are you insane ?

expatinscotland · 02/11/2007 15:36

my dad was my gran's third.

he was born about 45 minutes after the first contraction.

Idobelieveinfairies · 02/11/2007 15:36

almost...lol

bogwobbit · 02/11/2007 15:37

My 3rd labour was by far the easiest. It was almost enjoyable. 1st was definitely the worst, and 4th was pretty bad too.
I actually think it's pretty pants for a midwife to tell you something like this.
