OK it's a boy. DH is Irish, I am English but half-Indian. Here is the shortlist:

Irish:
Killian
Malachi
Taigh (not sure of spelling; pron is first syllable of tiger)
Dara

Other (i.e. mine):
Inigo
Noah
Emmanuel
Inyaki
Rafael
Raju
Damien (DH's)

He hates mine, I don't like his enough to name my son any of them. Killian is probably the frontrunner although I have huge issues calling my son anything that includes the word 'kill' (and rhymes with Gillian )

Any comments/suggestions gratefully received

thanks hana - I think you have summed up quite well how I feel about most of the names. Inyaki is a basque name that I heard when I lived in Spain but I realise it sounds a bit strange over here.

Malachi could also be shortened to Mak/Mack/Maki all of which I quite like

Well I'm feeling quite inclined towards Inigo now.. will go and work on DH and see how it goes..

Skidaddle - Inigo does sound like a posh name, even though that has not stopped me liking it (and I'm far from posh!)

However my surname is Jones so even by some miracle I did have a baby boy I couln't really call him Inigo because would sound like naming baby after eightenth-century garden designer!

kittylouise · 29/10/2007 16:49

Yes - please go and work some persuasive magic on your husband re Inigo (am living my baby-naming life vicariously through you now!!)

skidaddle · 29/10/2007 16:51

oh no kittylouise - the only famous Inigo ever! Although I don;t know how many people have heard of him..

OP posts:
skidaddle · 29/10/2007 16:51

will do kitty, cross your fingers for me!

Skid - does that mean we're not fighting over Rafael anymore? I think I'm too tired to fight.

skidaddle · 29/10/2007 17:06

blackcat - you would have beaten me anyway - I am a pathetic sleep-deprived heap of a woman - take Raphael and run!

Just seen your link in my thread Skidaddle

Ok from your list I like Rafael and possibly Emmanuel and Noah.
I dont like any of the irish ones and I immeadiately thought the same thing as you for Killian lol.

Only thing is if you want some of your Indian roots in the name because you dont really get that from Noah, Emmanuel and Rafael.

EachPeachPearMum · 29/10/2007 22:18

Malachi and Inaki (Basquaise spell it with a tilda over the N- I had a friend at uni called Inaki, he was lovely)

grendel · 29/10/2007 23:49

Rafael definitely. Sounds so lovely and shortens to Raffi which I think is great.

And to me has connotations of great Renaissance artists and Jewish angels (NOT ninja turtles!)

DD could have been a Rafael if she'd been a boy.

nappyaddict · 29/10/2007 23:51

like all the irish ones but not dara.

also like noah, emmanuel and rafael.

NorthernLurker · 30/10/2007 00:02

Hmmmmmmmmmmm - quite like Emmanuel and Noah - but not Rafael. I want to like Inigo - but no - can I suggest Reuben or Orlando?

Tortington · 30/10/2007 02:43

killian - as per gillian - puke
Malachi - good name
Taigh (not sure of spelling; pron is first syllable of tiger) - as in tye? tye dye?
Dara - must be irish live in ireland and speak irish and have irish accent and eat irish stew - otherwise its a girls name.

Other (i.e. mine):
Inigo - its like indigo - but wanna be different
Noah - every fecker is called noah
Emmanuel - as per PORN MOVIE!!!!
Inyaki - dont like it
Rafael - better hope you have a good looking kid that grows up handsom and not a ginger glassses wearing fatty to pull this one off - but if h turns out to be gay - it might suit him
Raju - nice - like this.
Damien (DH's) - as per the DEVIL CHILD?

and blackcat....willie?

as in ...slang for a dick?

OverRated · 30/10/2007 02:50

I like Malachi, Taigh, Noah & Rafael. I know a lovely little Rafael.

beeper · 30/10/2007 10:51

lol @ squeaky

skidaddle · 30/10/2007 12:54

hee hee love your comments cust - esp. the killian gillian puke one

re rafael being handsome - of course he will be! and I also love rafi as a shortened version

eachpeachmum - yes Inaki with a tilde is how I would spell it but thought the 'y' would show how to pronounce it

tried my best on DH with Inigo last night - he was having none of it. I said everyone on mumsnet likes Inigo best and he snorted in disgust. In retrospect probably not the best way to start my campaign...

His latest suggestions are:
Reef
Mowgli

See what I'm up against??!!

OP posts:
Tortington · 30/10/2007 13:03

reef? as in POT?

mowgli as in jungle book?

your dh is a fruit!

empen · 30/10/2007 13:11

what about Kai.

skidaddle · 30/10/2007 13:25

yes he is a fruit and that's putting it nicely...

Quite like Kai in principle empen but there was a Kai down my road when I was little who used to beat up his wife and then was put in prison for dealing heroin and I can't really get past that..

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 30/10/2007 13:36

what about akhil?

empen · 30/10/2007 13:46

ok, fair enough about Kai that would deffo put me off just thought it was similar to Taigh.
I am having my son next week and are torn between
Hughie Dean De'Ath &
Hughie Jaxon De'Ath

BroccoliSpears · 30/10/2007 13:50

I haven't read the comments, but Malachi is a BRILLIANT name.

BroccoliSpears · 30/10/2007 13:51

Oh, but Inyaki sounds like a dipping sauce.
