@kkr168 we use aldi aswell we have no problem no sores nappy rash etc we currently on size 2 I havent wrote anything in book I'm gonna ring the local clinic tomorrow and see if it's open and if I can book lo in for a weigh in and then once they mark the book I go from there myself

peachypetite · 21/02/2021 14:22

@kkr168 how frustrating!! We have had some pampers too and they are good but aldi equally and w fraction of the price.

EithneBlue · 21/02/2021 15:32

@kkr168 We use Lidl nappies as we shop both there and Sainsbury's (wasn't a fan of the Sainsbury's own brand ones) - we have been moving up the sizes as soon at the bigger size fits to try and avoid leaks/blowouts so now use size 3 (we aren't getting weighed here either, but have been using our regular scales, weighing me and then me and him and working out the difference to get a rough number) - baby is about 12.5lbs at 11 weeks. Depends on the shape of the baby a little what suits, too I think :-)

kkr168 · 21/02/2021 15:58

I've just been to aldi, they had regular & premium nappies. They'd sold out of his size in the regular ones so I picked up the premium this time, think they were about 50p dearer.

Kj1010 · 21/02/2021 16:22

@kkr168 we use the premium ones and have used the regular both are ok

NaomiB79 · 21/02/2021 19:04

@kkr168 we use Sainsbury's nappies through the day and Pampers at night. Pampers are really expensive but she only uses one or two at night and then through the day Sainsbury's own as she uses way more of them. It's been working pretty well so far for us.

Jwl45 · 21/02/2021 19:10

@kkr168 I have used pampers but tried Aldis nappies last time. They are fab. Cost pennies compared to pampers. The wipes are really soft too. My little one is 12lb 7 so we moved to number 2 nappies - even though she's still in the weight bracket for 1s. There's a good crossover weight x

peachypetite · 21/02/2021 19:42

My baby is gaining weight very slowly. I’m a bit worried.

EithneBlue · 21/02/2021 19:50

@peachypetite - Is she dropping percentiles do you think? Are you able to contact your HV to check in? Here they aren't weighing as 'standard' but my HV said to make contact if I had any concerns about weight and they'd arrange for baby to be weighed properly.

peachypetite · 21/02/2021 19:52

@EithneBlue yes she has had extra weigh ins arranged. She’s not losing weight, is gaining it, but she has only been putting on about 1 pound a month.

Jellycat2020 · 21/02/2021 20:39

We did use Aldi nappies during the day and Pampers at night, like @NaomiB79. She's now grown out of the Aldi size 2 because of her chunky thighs (!) so we tried the size 3s but weren't impressed and they seemed massive on her, so she's in Pampers all the time now.

Kj1010 · 21/02/2021 21:30

@peachypetite I read that is the average a pound a month till they 6 months then obvs more where they eat food from 6 months

EithneBlue · 21/02/2021 22:24

@peachypetite - that's good that they're keeping track :-) Try not to worry too much, humans come in many shapes and sizes - if she's otherwise healthy with good nappy output then that's reassuring.

@jellycat2020 - the size jump from 2 to 3 in nappy sizes is definitely weird: we found with the Lidl ones it felt like he had loads of loose nappy when it was empty (but it still fit around the legs) - I do have a boy who likes to wee a lot so the bigger nappy works well (we have trialed some reusable nappies but so far not successfully: he soaks them too fast and then gets upset the moment he realises that they're wet) - I've avoided buying a premium brand in case I like it too much and want to have expensive nappies 😂

lc86 · 21/02/2021 23:13

@kkr168 we use pampers. I bought Asda a few weeks ago to try and couldn't believe how horrible they felt compared to pampers, didn't even put one on him and took them back. I have heard aldi ones are great until size 3, apparently they changed them and they're not as good as they used to be from reviews. Think we will stick to pampers but I do try and stock up when they're on offer or look online for best price before I go and buy any. Aldi wipes are amazing though!!

lc86 · 21/02/2021 23:13

@kkr168 I used huggies with dd and am gutted they stopped making them

Yellowbeansontoast · 22/02/2021 06:44

@kkr168 we're using Lidl also - up to size 3 now (LO is 6kg at 3m). Never had issues with leaks and as long as they're done up tight enough, no blowouts either. He wears cloth in the day and disposables in the night and it's been working great for us. I'd definitely recommend the cloth, so easy and saves us constantly buying nappies :) (he still poops like a newborn due to his tummy issues, so we go through A LOT)

kkr168 · 22/02/2021 08:42

Well so far so good with the Aldi nappies!

As yesterdays question was so helpful for me, I thought I'd ask another....
What's your LO favourite toy?
Tommy is 11 weeks now, 12 on Wednesday, this past week he has started to really enjoy playing.
He has discovered the toy bar on his bouncy chair, he loves his play gym & cot mobile. My husband set the jumperoo up a few days ago & he absolutely loves that, he's a little small so we have put a blanket behind him to fill the gap in the seat & something under his feet so they touch the floor. He will happily play for 10-15 mins before getting grouchy, we then move onto the next toy & he'll have another play.
When people say by 3 months things are so much easier, they weren't lying.

My little one loves her fabric book.... it's black, white and yellow...with a mirror on the front. She also loves her little cube... its like a soft sensory cube... We have just bought a bumbo type seat from Argos as she just wants to sit up all the time. It comes with a play tray which she loves. I've attached a few pics . Xx

@Kj1010 have a look on local selling pages or Facebook marketplace, I picked up a huge bag of toys for £5. It had a door bouncer, rain makers, rattles, etc, I just cleaned & sterilised what I could but it all looks brand new. There's loads of jumperoos near me for only £10.
My lo loves the bath, we can't wait to take him swimming, like yours he doesn't want to get out. My friend got one of those inflatables that goes round their neck & puts her son in a deep bath, looks ridiculous but he absolutely loves it & it's the closest they'll get to swimming at the moment.

@Jwl45 that seat looks good, I might have to invest, although the babys stuff is taking over

MaverickDanger · 22/02/2021 14:10

L is 8 weeks old tomorrow & loves a foil sensory blanket that I bought - it’s basically one of the hypothermia ones that I’ve cut up. He also loves lying in front of the mirror 🙈

He was last weighed 2 weeks ago and had put on 1.5kg since he was born. He’s so long that we are having to put him in 3-6 month vests & bodysuits, or make sure that there are no feet. He’s 90th centile for height & 50th for weight so that’s to be expected.

I’m still breastfeeding which I’m amazed at, it’s been going so well. The only thing is he has this really sore patch of nappy rash/thrush on his bum that just won’t clear, it’s been a good few weeks and a couple of drs appointments but nothing seems to work.

Kj1010 · 22/02/2021 14:45

@MaverickDanger have u tried titanium cream u can get in Wilkinson I used on my daughter as she was bleeding from being sore few days later it was all gone and clear

Jwl45 · 22/02/2021 15:15

@kkr168. She loves it. The top play tray comes off - leaving another empty tray.... for own toys or food or snacks when the time comes. Then l, as baby grows, the white tray comes off and is a stand-alone seat.
I know what you mean about baby things taking over.. haha. Love it 🤣

Jellycat2020 · 23/02/2021 09:16

One of the best toys we've bought our lo is a fibre optic wand! We hold it and brush it over her and she's fascinated by the light. She even holds it and waves it around herself. She also loves her jungle playmat with a musical toucan - though the music is driving us mad.... 😂
