Morning all well had the doctor phone call he asked me basically what do I wanti told him I had baby etc only a couple things he asked wen was he born how was he born is he bottle or breast fed and have I booked for injections not how is he feeding etc then asked a few basic questions about me and that's it honestly what was the point in in phoning at all

alphabetti · 01/02/2021 11:51

@Kj1010 I had face to face postnatal check last week when baby went for 8wk vaccinations. Dr just asked did I have normal birth, how was I feeding baby and then what contraception I wanted and then weighed me and checked blood pressure. I had gestational diabetes so asked about follow up as was told would have appointment 6wk after giving birth to check but I haven’t heard anything so asked Dr. Dr just said to call consultant I was under when pregnant and ask them. I feel poor from Dr but health visitor has been visiting and asking about mood etc incase of PND so maybe they just leave anything extra to health visitors? I also think they just doing the minimum due to Covid.

Kj1010 · 01/02/2021 12:43

@alphabetti I havent heard from hv since her call when I was released from midwife was told they arent doing house visits because of covid that's it was told there was a few clinics open but she didn't say which ones that's it nothing since I just think it is very poor and discusting aftercare I've even messaged my hv and had zero response so says it all really hence why ive ordered my own scales to weigh my baby and if I feel there is something wrong I will contact walking centre or hospital as my doctors etc are utter useless!

peachypetite · 01/02/2021 14:39

I am sleeping so well compared to those early weeks. I go to bed around 9.30pm on my own. Husband does the feed after midnight, changes her and brings her up and then she’s been sleeping through until 5.30am or even six a couple of times. She’s ten weeks now.

Kj1010 · 01/02/2021 17:38

Can I ask what ppls babys weighed at 8 weeks if use can remember

Jellycat2020 · 01/02/2021 20:11

@Kj1010 mine was 10lb 12oz when she was weighed at her vaccinations at just before 9weeks. Born 7lb 4oz but dropped to 6lb 7oz in the first week.

alphabetti · 01/02/2021 20:11

@Kj1010 that dies sound very poor aftercare and could lead to terrible outcome if a mother suffering PND/domestic abuse etc or if a baby had issue. I was discharged from midwives on day 5 but I did receive daily phone calls from community midwife team re breastfeeding. Health visitor is lovely too and she says just call if need anything.

My little girl was born 7lb3oz and at 7wks weighed 9lb13oz. I think she’s definitely grown in last week and half (now 8wk 5days) and wears 0-3mth clothes.

Kj1010 · 01/02/2021 20:34

Ty @jellycat2020 @alphabetti I've weighed my lo on baby scales I brought and he goes 11lb 3 and is dead on 8 weeks today so I guess not bad he was also 7lbs 3 born dropped like only a couple of ounces he has just gone up to 5ounce bottles and they are a little more spaced out as he can drink a whole bottle then in a hour or 2 3 etc drink another he is on hungry milk also

Kj1010 · 01/02/2021 20:35

Ps my lo been in o/3 for a few weeks now he is quite long

Jellycat2020 · 01/02/2021 21:52

Can I ask for ideas as to what to do during the day with a 10 week old?! Currently she feeds every 3-4 hours, and naps for no more than an hour at a time, often on me only. We go out for an hours walk every afternoon and have one or two playmat sessions (books, toys, music) and as much tummy time as she can tolerate (approx 20mins per day).
As she very rarely naps in her moses basket and hates the baby sling, I feel trapped on the sofa...

lc86 · 01/02/2021 21:52

My lo was 12lb 3oz at 6 weeks and is now in 3-6 months at 8 weeks (0-3 seems too short for him now).. he was 9lb 12oz born though xx

lc86 · 01/02/2021 21:54

@Jellycat2020 I know this is no help but my 8 week old is very similar and I feel exactly the same as you x

kkr168 · 01/02/2021 23:00

@Kj1010 my lo weighed 7.8 at birth & 10.7 at 8 weeks
@Jellycat2020 I joined an online baby massage course, it's done via a private Facebook group, the lady uploads new videos weekly. So far my lo only tolerates a few minutes, hopefully he starts enjoying it more. He loves music so I'm hoping to also find an online baby music themed group. I cannot wait for things to reopen so that we can take him swimming, I'm a water baby, hopefully he is too.

Charl88 · 02/02/2021 11:51

For those who are combi feeding which bottle do you use? Baby is 7 weeks and I have started expressing milk for a couple of feeds. We have thr tomee tippee closer to nature but he isn't taking them he just plays with the teat and gets frustrated after a few minutes. We used them with my 1st no problem but baby won't have them

peachypetite · 02/02/2021 12:00

@Charl88 we use mam bottles.

alphabetti · 02/02/2021 14:13

@Jellycat2020 my baby is 9weeks today and usually she has a bit of time in her bouncy chair after she’s had her first feed. She usually sleeps most of the morning (to make up for the time she’s been awake in night! 😉😂) so I get housework jobs done then. In afternoon we have some play time on her mat and I read her some stories and have a bit of tummy time. We then go for a walk. While I cook evening meal she’ll go in her bouncy chair again and after we’ve eaten she’ll have a bath which she enjoys.

@Charl88 baby has x1 feed on night from her dad and we use mam bottles. Initially tried tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles that I got in a pack with steraliser but she couldn’t suck them properly and milk just dribbled out. Midwife said they don’t like the tommee tippee ones and wish they’d be banned so she recommended the mam ones.

Kj1010 · 02/02/2021 14:43

My lo has has no problems with the tommee tippee bottles we have a few mam and he cant stand them at all so have stuck with tomee tippee

peachypetite · 02/02/2021 16:37

@Jellycat2020 I feel the same as you. I’m so sad we can’t do fun things like baby classes, meeting friends, going to nice cafes and chilling with a cup of tea....

phe694 · 02/02/2021 20:45

finally found you girls! hope your all okay! i'm just wondering if anyone has had heavy bleeding at 8 weeks? i stopped bleeding around a week after birth, i started the pill last week and i know it's a side affect. i breastfeed my little girl, but this bleeding is so much worse than after i gave birth!

EithneBlue · 02/02/2021 21:22

@phe694 - the mini pill? I've just been bleeding for a couple of days on that (9 weeks pp - as heavy as a period) which started after a week of taking it. I think it's breakthrough bleeding so hopefully it'll settle! Naively I thought that I'd get away with that side effect because of breastfeeding but apparently not!

phe694 · 02/02/2021 21:25

@EithneBlue yes that's the one! i'm having to use maternity pads as normal pads aren't thick enough! yes me too!

Snowwhite2020 · 03/02/2021 02:45

@peachypetite things are so much easier with more sleep aren’t they and lo also sleeping great now... yay!

@Jellycat2020 there is also something called baby sensory classes. I’ve heard some are running pre recorded online sessions you can do at home.

I agree with everyone that we’re missing out on lots of new experiences as mummies and babies but there are lots of zoom things online... I have found mother and baby groups and la Leche do online zooms if you are breast feeding which have been a lifesaver.

Snowwhite2020 · 03/02/2021 02:47

To other ebf mums... are you still getting up in the night to pump even if baby is sleeping? Finding in having to do that to protect milk supply and avoid problems like mastitis/ blocked ducts.

peachypetite · 03/02/2021 05:14

@Snowwhite2020 no, my baby has been slowly increasing how long she goes without feeds and my body seems to be adjusting accordingly. I guess the problem with pumping at night is that you’ll stimulate supply? Can la leche help you? We are missing out but let’s hope we will have some kind of normal maternity at some point? Has anyone done any zoom baby classes? I’m not sure if it will be worth it.

EithneBlue · 03/02/2021 08:57

@peachypetite I've been doing zoom baby massage which has been good :-)
