@MaverickDanger

I think it might be Wonder Weeks?

I’ve just slept from 8pm till 3am with my mum and DH splitting the evening and early hours & feeding him some expressed milk.

Feel like a new woman except the night sweats and waking up drenched with milk Grin

@MaverickDanger you really made me laugh! The night sweats and the milk patches really are an unexpected joy of post natal life. Grin My washing machine cannot keep up with my bedding and pyjama changes

I discovered this thread at 2am, hope it's ok to join! My baby is just over eight weeks. I found weeks six and seven really tough and it suddenly got a bit easier in week eight, but she had her jabs yesterday and now she's really grumpy and clingy again. Poor thing. It's reassuring to hear people's stories on here, as although there are lovely moments I have found the past eight weeks pretty hard and at times lonely. It would be good to have some (virtual) company!

Kj1010 · 08/01/2021 15:26

@Trufflepuffpuff welcome this is a great group of mummies

kkr168 · 08/01/2021 15:47

Those that are formula feeding, how much is your lo eating?
My lo was drinking 2.5-3.5 Oz, then when his gaviscon was working a few days ago he was finishing the 4oz bottle. We started his new milk & I've been making 5oz bottles up, thinking he'd only drink the 4oz as normal but he's drinking the whole bottle. He has 7 bottles a day, just worried he's having too much milk?
He's 5 weeks now & weighs 10lb 15oz, he was 7.8 at birth

lc86 · 08/01/2021 15:49

@Trufflepuffpuff welcome to the group ☺️ I agree about feeling lonely, I am only at week 5 and feel like I'm wishing his life away at the moment xx

lc86 · 08/01/2021 15:50

@kkr168 my lo has been on 5oz since week 2 and now week 5, we are increasing to 6oz as finishing all his bottles. He was 9lb 12 born though, no idea what he weighs now. He tends to feed every 3 hours in day xx

lc86 · 08/01/2021 15:51

@kkr168 I'd say your lo is drinking a perfect amount for age and weight xx

Trufflepuffpuff · 08/01/2021 17:12

@kkr168 mine is having 5oz bottles every 3-4 hours, though sometimes she only takes 4oz. I was told by the GP they should have 150ml per kilo of their weight, but I think she has a bit more than that. The NHS website says 150-200ml/kilo and the Aptamil box says she should be on 6oz by now (she's eight weeks). It's really confusing to know what's right! Do you do paced feeding to make sure she's just taking what she needs?

Trufflepuffpuff · 08/01/2021 17:13

@lc86 I know what you mean. I feel awful wishing bits of her babyhood away but some of the weeks have been so hard, and I've been looking forward to her being a bit older and more interactive. I'm sure I'll look back on these moments fondly though!

Jwl45 · 08/01/2021 18:00

We are on sma first step. We are currently on 4oz... But on breast as well... So goodness knows how much she has there.
We have not been weighed this long time but I can see her filling out and getting bigger... The nappies are all good. ..
SMA says 4 week 4 ounces... But 2 months 5 ounces lol. So I prob should up it and ounce... Although she's perfectly happy. She was born 7.1 .....
She has 3 bottles a day and boob in-between. Last night, last feed was at 10pm and she slept through until 6-20 am...so must be contented

Babyhope98 · 08/01/2021 18:45

Do your babies have bubbles around there mouth sometimes from sleep or after feeding? Maybe a sign of her reflux/wind

Kj1010 · 08/01/2021 18:57

My lo is 4 ounces but can be every 3 hours 2 hours etc sometimes he can have 4 ounces n still be whingy so make up 3 ounces n he drinks 2 of em then goes 4 hours n drink a full 4 ounce he is 4 weeks 5 days I just feed him as and when but he never goes more than 4 1/2 hours between feeds I know he putting on weight through face body and just general heaviness I dont go by what's on tin etc I just know after having three before him u just sorta do lol and wen I spoke to md n hv they said its perfect to feed as and wen and not defo have set times as it sort of force feeding them but obvs never let them go more than 6 hours

Snowwhite2020 · 08/01/2021 19:11

Wow @Jwl45 that’s a length of sleep I can only dream of... last night was better but in general our LO has slept really poorly and we get an average of 3 hours of unbroken sleep once a night with her then up every hour around that. It’s been brutal and mu DH and I are starting to really feel the effects of sleep deprivation. Hoping and praying it gets easier soon. She’s 7+1 days today. I always assume “week 8” means 8+1 onwards- not the week we’re currently on?? My mum has confused me when I said I had read people saying things easier from week 8 they were in that already...

Jwl45 · 08/01/2021 19:46

@Snowwhite2020 yes... couldn't believe it. She had her last feed at 10... She normally has one around 12/1am. Hubby and I stay downstairs watching TV til about 12 usually ( in my head, this means I only get up twice a night to feed- if that makes any sense ) was gutted I hadn't gone to bed at 10 🤣🤣
Mind you, I woke at 3, 4 , 5 etc was on pins just checking her. She has a habit of moving herself to side of crib... She loves her face being touched / covered 🤷🏼‍♀️
She does go 4 hours usually - And that's a recent thing....

Snowwhite2020 · 08/01/2021 19:57

@Jwl45 that’s so great that she is going for 4 hours anyway! I totally understand about checking on them all the time even when they do sleep... how old is your LO now? Xx

Jwl45 · 08/01/2021 21:40

@Snowwhite2020 she is 8weeks.... Well actually 9 on Monday. She's good to be fair. After all that sleep last night, she's still has a long nap this avo. She was awake from 9- 2 ish with a little cat nap in between .... But nothing to speak of. She slept 3 hours this avo and now after food wants sleep again lol the feeding pattern is all out the window today .... Could be a long night 🤣

Bigredriding · 08/01/2021 21:48

I’m dreading the night ahead because he’s been sleeping soundly for the last couple of hours, which is unheard of.

I just want to share a tip with all of you struggling because so far it’s been lifesaving for us. I put him in the sling yesterday but with just his nappy on and with my top off. He went into some sort of spaced out, calm state and slept his best night ever. I did the same thing this evening and he’s just been passed out on me skin to skin all evening while we watched a film. I’ve been reading about it and the theory is that in skin to skin your body regulates their temperature and breathing so they calm right down and their body can concentrate on other functions?! It may or may not help anyone, but it’s been the best discovery for us when I was really at a low point yesterday.

Sending good sleep vibes to everyone!

lc86 · 09/01/2021 00:17

Going to be a long night, lo has just woken up from a 5 hour nap 😴

Pinktruffle · 09/01/2021 02:39

A 5 hour sleep sounds the thing of dreams too me! Mine sleeps between 2 -3 hours at the longest, he is 7 weeks +3 days. I can't get my head around his feeding, he is having 5 ounces every 3 hours roughly but sometimes is hungry after an hour and a half so we have to give him more. I read on the formula box 4hat he should be having around 5 feeds a day now but mine is still having 8 or 9. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or that's just his appetite.
I'm up with him again tonight, it feels like this is becoming a pattern now Confused.

Thank you for the info on the app ladies, I'll look it up.

Jwl45 · 09/01/2021 04:08

Well tonight we have gone from 9 pm until 3-45am and tbh prob longer if I hadn't moved her in crib and she semi- woke. I prob shouldn't have made a fuss but was worried she would be thirsty. (and I felt I had a great big rock in my bra!!!! Ouch!) Hope anyone else who's up is feeling ok and gets settled and back to sleep soon. I'm sure this little one will settle back down .... I just have a noisy, heavy - breathing hubby next to me. .... Who I will be waking if he doesn't quieten down!!!!!! 😬

peachypetite · 09/01/2021 04:44

@Jwl45 you are so lucky!
So I had been feeling worried about my baby and got her a private tongue tie assessment today. She does have one. This explains why she can’t latch and why I’ve spent the last weeks expressing milk to give her in a bottle ergh!

Babyhope98 · 09/01/2021 05:55

I’m worrying if my little one has one as she keeps clicking while feeding. How much was it did they cut it for you? @peachypetite

MaverickDanger · 09/01/2021 06:11

Little L just managed 2 hours in his Moses basket for the first time!

His poor dad had a 1am battle with expressed milk & a syringe, and then a hugely pooey nappy, while I slept from 8.30 till 2.30. He’s then fed for a bit and slept for two hours - although has since been grizzling for 45 mins!

Trufflepuffpuff · 09/01/2021 07:05

Anyone else with an 8-week old who's suddenly really hungry? Ours usually has 150ml (5oz) before bed but tonight she was screaming for more and took over 200ml. I'm already struggling with breastfeeding guilt and now I'm finding bottle feeding so confusing. I've been told to be careful not to over feed her but surely if she's screaming for more I can't withhold it can I? How much are your 8-week olds eating? She weighs 5.5kg and I've been told by the GP to give her 150ml/kg, although the NHS guidance is 150-200ml so maybe she's at the higher end? I struggled to breastfeed and since giving up feel like there's very little support for bottle feeding parents.

NaomiB79 · 09/01/2021 07:59

@Trufflepuffpuff if she's draining her bottles I would up her to 6oz, we've done this this week with my 10 week old. She sometimes will take all 6oz and sometimes only 5oz but we offer her 6oz now in each feed.
