@Babyhope98

Haha this made me laugh I feel like a walking tit for sure
love it haha
kkr168 · 07/01/2021 11:48

@Babyhope98 he did, yes, he would also gag I assume now it was the acid coming up & him swallowing it again. It's a shame the medicine is so much faff when breast feeding, I've just had a quick look into the other meds the Dr can prescribe & they all sound like they'll be alot of hassle too

kkr168 · 07/01/2021 11:55

Is anyone else having to home school again? My 19 year old stepson has learning difficulties, mentally he's closer to 5 years old. I managed fine last time but now the baby's here it's so draining, we're literally online (on a group call) from 9 till 3, with a couple of breaks in between, 3 days a week. I can't do this until mid February & there's talk of them possibly extending further until the end of march

peachypetite · 07/01/2021 13:02

Thanks to the ladies who replied to me in the early hours when I was losing my mind. Baby finally crashed out and we’ve slept for 3.5 hours. I called my dr again only to be told for the third time to wait and someone will call me about 6 week check, turns out there is one person who does it and they are off sick until who knows when. I want my baby weighed. I also think it’s disgusting that there is no care or follow up for a newborn or for mum’s mental health because someone is off sick.

Jellycat2020 · 07/01/2021 13:49

@peachypetite glad you managed to get at least a little sleep. Hope you're feeling a bit better. The 6 week check I got was for me and I needed it to be face to face as I'm still having issues 'down there' - yet another infection in the episiotomy wound, this one deeper, but also issues with control and prolapse. Baby is due 8 week check and vaccinations next week and I've been told they'll phone me to book it in. I have been lucky with post-natal care. We had midwives visiting every other day or so at the start because of LO's problems feeding and to check me as well and we've had 2 health visitor visits so she's been weighed loads! We've got quite a lot on our plates though - I need a female health physio referral and am under the care of the peri-natal mental health team and we're awaiting a referral for LO as she has mild torticollis and subsequent flat head 😔. Thank f* husband is still off work!

Jwl45 · 07/01/2021 14:53

Yes i must say, our care has been amazing... Midwife visits...then the health visitor has been out 3 times ... She's always on the end of the phone should I need something. I have actually phoned a couple of times to ask advice about combi feeding and when I had mastitis. I had a letter before Xmas about 6-8 week check which is next week. I received another letter yesterday to say that her injections are the same day at the surgery. I must say I'm not looking forward to those.

peachypetite · 07/01/2021 15:10

Care was good until ten days where we were discharged.

MySafeSpace · 07/01/2021 15:49

@peachypetite I'm with you on this, virtually no aftercare at all, he hasn't been weighed or seen since he was 2 weeks old. I received a letter about my post natal check and his 6 week check and when I phoned up to book I was told that his check would be incorporated into the 8 week immunisation appointment and that my check would be done over the phone. I asked for a face to face as I'm still having issues down there and having had not a single person look at my stitches I'm concerned. I feel like I've just got out of hospital again with the pain and being so uncomfortable but no one will see me. They keep saying just rest and follow the guidance I was given from the hospital and that it takes time to recover. I understand that but I'm 6 weeks down the line and really think I need to be checked. It really is beyond a joke. Add that onto the horrendous nights we have and the fact that today he has been a pain too, not sleeping or settling at all, just screaming!! Still no one wants to know
I'm all on my own tomorrow and I'm dreading it, really dreading it

Kj1010 · 07/01/2021 15:52

@kkr168 my lo fluctuates between likening and hating a bath I have noticed if I fill it so he is totally submerged body that is he likes it more but he will whinge after about 5 mins so it's a basic get in wash and that's it at mo in regards to weighing etc my care ain't great had to go to clinic to see midwife wouldnt come out had one telephone call with hv to be told they ain't coming out or any appointment at clinic due to covid but then goes on to tell me there is some clinics running but have to book but never gave me any more info numbers etc so last time my baby was weighed was at like 10 days old which he went 7lb14 I'm not to worried as I know he has put weight on plus I use my scales for a estimate rang docs to register baby was told that will happen when I have my 6/8 week check that they will contact me wen but if I need any info help ie he I'll etc I can ring and speak to doc tbh my doctors area pile of crap always have been

Jellycat2020 · 07/01/2021 16:37

@MySafeSpace if you're still in pain with your stitches or if it got better then worse again, it might be an infection (I've had 2 so know how you feel!) so really push for getting it looked at. My midwife checked mine initially, then GP at 6 week check.

MySafeSpace · 07/01/2021 16:41

@Jellycat2020 it did get better to the point of no bleeding or pain or anything but the last few days I've had bleeding and pain again, literally takes me back to the day I was discharged from the hospital. I also feel really run down (thought it was just a cold as had it before Xmas) but it's still lingering so not in a good place. I just don't know what else to do now as my gp will not entertain us at all. I'm due to see the hv next week (finally) so will ask her and she what she says

Snowwhite2020 · 07/01/2021 17:22

Sorry to hear of everyone feeling down and overwhelmed- it is such a difficult phase but I’m sure we are all doing the best we can.

I had the 6 week check up today (even though she is 7 weeks today) and was good to actually meet the Hv and doctor in person. I agree with others it’s so important that you are checked post birth in person for physical and mental health- as well as the babied of course.

We have been prescribed infant gaviscon after suffering some horrendous nights and lots of reflux and wind. I am really really hoping it helps- infacol and gripe water only take the edge off...

Love to all the mummies doing their best right now. 💓

Snowwhite2020 · 07/01/2021 17:24

@NaomiB79 I hope you are feeling a bit better than you were when you posted last week or so? It sounds like things are a bit better with LO and her being a bit more settled? I know you’re a couple of weeks ahead of me and were one of the first on this thread to give birth.... so if you’re finding it even a tad easier then that gives me hope it gets a bit easier! Xx

Babyhope98 · 07/01/2021 17:25

I messaged my health visitor said I’m struggling and how unsettled my girl had been and she’s agreed to see me next week to check her over. I’m worried about her weight as every feed she gets upset so worried she doesn’t have enough, she had wet nappies so hopefully all is good. Don’t want to jinx it but I’ve tried a homeopathic remedy for her reflux as I look for alternatives to gaviscon to avoid the constipation it’s called Nat phos 6x after reading good stuff about it and I gave it after she fussed at her feed today and she is happy first time in ages in the evening fingers crossed it’s going to work 🤩

Jellycat2020 · 07/01/2021 18:12

@MySafeSpace do look after yourself. I was in so much pain Saturday night - couldn't sit down, couldn't sleep - then started bleeding so I phoned 111, got a call back from the on call GP and they prescribed antibiotics which I could pick up that night. They did say to watch out for fever, rapid heart rate or vomiting which could be a sign the infection is spreading.

MySafeSpace · 07/01/2021 19:04

@Jellycat2020 thank you I'll keep an eye out for any of those symptoms too
Look after yourself too, sounds horrible, always good to know I can call them too if it gets really bad

kkr168 · 07/01/2021 19:42

So after a few good days using baby gaviscon, all his symptoms returned with a vengeance today Sad
Called the Dr again & they gave a prescription for aptimal comfort milk, I tried multiple chemists but none stocked it, the last chemist I tried has ordered it in for tomorrow.
Went home, tried to give Tommy his usual milk with the gaviscon, he took a sip & then was hysterical, had a quick look on Google & found Tesco stock the comfort milk! Rushed over & purchased it, made him up a bottle & he downed it, with no fuss, crying, pain, etc.
The Dr did say it will be very much trial & error finding a solution

Snowwhite2020 · 07/01/2021 20:11

Oh dear @kkr168- after you had had such success with the baby gaviscon!!

NaomiB79 · 07/01/2021 21:08

@Snowwhite2020 I am feeling much better thanks and that is a lot to do with the fact my lo is much more settled. She's nearly 10 weeks now and it was so tough around 6 or 7 weeks. Apparently their crying generally peaks at 6 weeks, they have a growth spurt which affects their sleeping and eating and for most babies with colic it peaks around then too. It really is a tough time but things are already easier just a few weeks on, she's like a different child!

Hope the gaviscon works for your lo. It really is trial and error we tried so many things to help her colic but I think it's just resolving itself as her digestive system matures xx

Pinktruffle · 08/01/2021 02:51

So, I'm up again. He has fallen asleep today about half an hour ago but wont go down in his crib. Soneone on here mentioned an app that they found useful in regards to baby development, could I ask the name please?

MaverickDanger · 08/01/2021 03:18

I think it might be Wonder Weeks?

I’ve just slept from 8pm till 3am with my mum and DH splitting the evening and early hours & feeding him some expressed milk.

Feel like a new woman except the night sweats and waking up drenched with milk Grin

peachypetite · 08/01/2021 03:53

@Pinktruffle wonder weeks. I’ve found it bang on!! I’m up too...not as bad as last night, tonight seems more colic related poor thing.

Charl88 · 08/01/2021 03:54

@MaverickDanger wow I bet you do!! Sounds like heaven 😂
@Pinktruffle yes I think its wonder weeks too. Im up feeding again too... he's just fallen asleep on my chest and currently deciding whether to risk putting him down or not.
@NaomiB79 sounds like there's a light at the end of the tunnel if we can just get through these first couple of months... seems so far away though. I shouldn't be wishing the time away but its so hard

peachypetite · 08/01/2021 03:54

@NaomiB79 glad you’re feeling a bit better and as someone who is a few weeks ahead with a very colicky baby it gives me hope. @kkr168 glad you found the milk. It’s so exhausting isn’t it, this constant worrying about their feeding. I think I really underestimated it to be honest.

Snowwhite2020 · 08/01/2021 09:36

After just a few feeds with baby gaviscon she has stopped vomiting she stopped the hiccups- no difference with wind but I guess that’s the other end but at least it appears to have quickly taken some of the problems away!
