Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

Should also say, if you have incontinence issues post-birth do go to the GP. It may be common but it shouldn't be the norm, and is common bc so many women suffer in silence.

MsHedgehog · 28/02/2021 17:31

@Ttwinksy I'm 34+4 and am absolutely huge...I only get up once during the night to pee and that's at around 6am usually.

I have some days where I'm constantly needing to pee, and other times where it's a normal pre-pregnancy day.

MsHedgehog · 28/02/2021 17:39

@flappityflippers1

Do you mind if I ask why you had issues with your back passage if you had a c-section?

I'm a FTM and due to have a c-section because I already suffer from bowel incontinence due to previous surgeries and illness (hence why I'm having the c-section). Had no idea that you can still have issues even if you have a c-section!

Bojingle · 28/02/2021 21:48

Hi everyone. I hope you're all well. I am still here lurking, I just have barely any energy atm. Working full time, raising a toddler, my out of control GD (despite forever increasing my insulin) and the appointments that go with it, is all sucking my energy. Probably only 4 weeks until induction for me.

OP posts:
Inkpaperstars · 28/02/2021 23:55

Sorry to hear your GD is proving such an issue @Bojingle. I know what you mean about appointments and things, I have been in to the hospital a lot for various reasons including several extended middle of the night trips for reduced movement and it really takes it out of you. Got to be done, but hard. Hang in there (as they always used to say on Neighbours!).

I am totally unprepared and like you probably only looking at 4-5 weeks max!

Does anyone have any thoughts about sleeping bags or clothes? I am wondering what type of sleeping bag is suitable for a newborn due early spring, or how many clothes to get for warmer/cooler weather. I wasn’t planning to get a pram suit or anything, just a few cardigans and blankets maybe. I was born in April and once it did snow on my birthday, but this is rare!

Also I am really struggling with pram choices not being able to see any in person, part of me is considering making a shortlist and then waiting for shops to reopen, relying on a fabric stretchy sling or something in the meantime....but then that could be a bad idea, especially if have a c section (quite likely) and don’t feel up to going shopping or lifting them in store. At least my partner could go though. He was out for a walk today worrying that he looked very suspicious trying to catch up with anyone with a pram and take a sideways look at it!

BaaHumbugg · 01/03/2021 00:15

Hope you feel ok with all the GD stuff @Bojingle, it sounds extremely tiring, at least you are in the home stretch now Smile

@inkpaperstars my DD was born in spring and I never once used a sleeping bag, no idea why I think I just never got round to buying one so used cellular blankets etc.

With prams I think you could order one and return it if you don't like it? Surely they must all be doing some kind of free returns like Argos do that I think.

I've been feeling really sad for my DD tonight at the thought of her not being the sole focus of my attention anymore, I know it's silly!

Inkpaperstars · 01/03/2021 00:51

That’s a thought @BaaHumbugg, I had assumed once set up I wouldn’t be able to return but perhaps I can, especially with all the Covid stuff they might allow it. Going to look into that, thank you!

I think it’s really natural to feel that way about your DD, it’s kind of the end of an era I guess, but onwards and upwards because she will benefit so much having a sibling!

flappityflippers1 · 01/03/2021 07:29

@MsHedgehog It wasn’t anything to do with the c section thankfully. It was down to how I was carrying baby I believe, the pressure was all around that area which over time weakened the muscles x

flappityflippers1 · 01/03/2021 07:32

@Inkpaperstars for clothes I’ve got one fairly thick cardigan/hoody, two lighter ones and a knitted cardigan. I do have a footmuff thing for the pram carrycot but not expecting to need it.

I just use cellular blankets overnight as probably the only person in the world who didn’t get on with sleep bags haha!

If you want any help choosing a pram, feel free to PM me. I’m a product expert in the nursery industry (car seats, which is verrrry outing haha!) but I know a fair bit about prams and slings also x

firsttimemomtobex · 01/03/2021 08:23

@Inkpaperstars are there no independent pram or baby stores in your area? The shop that we had our pram from is still offering appointments during lockdown and they demonstrate all the pushchairs for you and talk about what is best for your lifestyle etc. it's definitely worth looking into!

Flyingfrogspawn · 01/03/2021 09:37

Hey everyone! Just found this thread. Congratulations to you all on your pregnancies. Hoping its alright to jump on here I'm nearly 34 weeks. Would be nice to talk to people at the same stage xx

@Bojingle. How far along are you now? What are your readings like? I'm 34+5 and still diet controlled but the range of food I can eat is getting smaller.

Flyingfrogspawn · 01/03/2021 11:02

Hey @Handsoffstrikesagain

Flyingfrogspawn · 01/03/2021 11:03

Not sure why my full response hasn't posted, but rest was meant to say i know how you feel. With my first I went 8 days over. This time they've said I may be offered induction at 39 weeks (fingers crossed).

Inkpaperstars · 01/03/2021 21:35

I will look into that @firsttimemomtobex thank you

@flappityflippers1 thank you, I will take you up on that offer when I have gathered my thoughts!

Bojingle · 01/03/2021 23:56

@baahumbugg I feel the same about DD. I swing back and forth between being excited for her and feeling sad that life will change for her

@catlady21 I am 34+1 and its my fasting and breakfast which are the problem. I take the max dose of metformin and I've been increasing my before bed insulin dose every second night for the last 2 weeks and, it looks like I might have figured out the fasting. I have just started taking fast acting for breakfast so I'm hoping it will soon settle down. For the past month my fasting has been hovering around 6ish and my breakfast is around 9/10. They say its definitely hormones and my diet is fine, but it's so frustrating when you're doing everything "right". I just hate it. I'm usually a fit and healthy person who barely takes paracetamol and here I am pumping myself full of more medication than I've ever taken in my life.

On the sleeping bag question, DD was an early autumn baby so I was just planning on using hers initially. I never went for particularly thick ones as if it was cold I just layered a cellular blanket over.

I’m late to the party but I’ve been reading the thread with great interest for weeks, I hope you don’t mind me joining you?!
I’m 32 weeks and due 22nd April but I’m likely to need induction at 38-39 weeks.

@flappityflippers1 - Would it be cheeky to ask if I can PM you for some advice on which car seat might be best please? We’ve bought a pram and are struggling to know where to start with looking for a car seat which fits both our car and the pram. It’s a minefield and we’re starting to feel the pressure of time going so fast now!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 02/03/2021 12:03

Hi ladies.

Anyone else feeling insatiable hunger ATM? I've been up for 6h and thus far have eaten 2 slices of toast, a yoghurt and a huge bowl of porridge and my stomach is growling for lunch already! I was hoping not to pile on too many more pounds but it seems that desire has gone out of the window!

bunhead34 · 02/03/2021 12:26

Has anyone bought disposable pants for their hospital bag? I can't decide which size to get! If I'm normally a size 10 should I get a M?
Any other pant recommendations also appreciated! I'm in a knicker minefield 🙈

Catlady21 · 02/03/2021 12:55

@bunhead34 I just took normal knickers in black so I was able to reuse afterwards. I barely bled though after both births, mine was just like the tail end of a period.

@Bojingle I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this frustration on top of all the other pregnancy hormones! Like you say you're doing everything right. My baby is estimated to be 8lb full term at the moment. I have a friend who doesn't have GD and can eat as she pleases, which she is! Ice creams, doughnuts, even white bread! Her baby is on course to be 10lb + full term so she is booked in for a csect. It's hard not to be resentful.

Keep going, we are nearly there... and nearly at being able to have white buttered toast!!

clb8921 · 02/03/2021 13:06

@bunhead34 I have bought some massive black (past your belly button) pants from Matalan. I’m normally a 12 and bought a size 16. They are heaven. I’m not sure I’ll be able to go back to normal pants after wearing those for a while 🤣
