Anyone given birth before their due date?

My last two were born at 40+1 so not looking favourable. I'm not due until the 16th December but for some reason I've always been adamant this baby is coming on the 4th (I think I just like the date 🤣)

Did anything bring on labour for anyone that's had their babies already?

EithneBlue · 28/11/2020 12:04

41+0 today. Midwife didn't want to do another sweep today because she thinks baby's head is too high 😭 I think I am going to be pregnant forever (well, not forever: induction booked for Thursday if there's still no baby by then but that feels like forever). Did not seriously expect a December baby but that's looking more and more likely. Being overdue is no joke.

danielasummer · 28/11/2020 14:51

@EithneBlue I'm not overdue and I'm feeling fed up so I can't imagine how you're feeling!

Back at the hospital for the 4th episode of reduced movements. Have been told I can't give birth on the midwife-led unit now as I baby need more monitoring 😔 (even though every time I've come in, baby has been fine) - to say I'm gutted is an understatement.

@danielasummer - I have been told the same thing (for the same reason) and was pretty upset too but actually when I discussed it with the midwife today she explained that it can still be made to feel non-hospital-like and that it's still 1:1 midwife care sounds like it's more to do with quicker and easier access to doctors/equipment if needed (they should also be able to monitor without tying you to a bed for too long as wireless monitoring does exist) -- ask your midwife to go over it all with you as there are still choices that will be open to you :-)

PipTed · 28/11/2020 15:56

@kkr168 we have the same due date, so looks like me you and @EithneBlue are in the overdue crew. Lost more mucus plug today-when I went to midwife on Thursday, she said it regenerates, so not really a good sign of things progressing as I thought!

PipTed · 28/11/2020 16:01

@MySafeSpace

Hey so just wanted to update that my due date was 25th Nov and after being sent home from triage early that morning at roughly 2/3cm I ended up back in just after lunch that day and baby boy (no name as yet) arrived just before 4pm. Everything bit of a blur but we are all home and trying to settle into our new sense of normal.

Thank you everyone for your help and advice getting us all this far and good luck to all those who've yet to welcome their babies

Congratulations!!!
kkr168 · 28/11/2020 16:18

@PipTed We went out for a 2 hour walk today to try & get things moving, nothing yet. I have my next midwife appointment Tuesday where she has offered to do a 2nd sweep, not sure if I'll accept this one, I believe she will also book in the induction date then also.

@MySafeSpace congratulations on your baby boy, we will also be part of the no name club x

LRHRN · 28/11/2020 16:48

@lc86 yeah she feeds from my boob in the day and never had an issue, she also has a dummy xx

Went on a walk earlier in the pouring rain, bouncing on my ball now - been feeling tightenings at night but not sure whether it’s from the clary sage diffuser.

I didn’t go for the sweep at my 40 week appointment, but will probably have it at 41 weeks if nothing has happened. If I can that is!

lc86 · 28/11/2020 17:02

@LRHRN that's amazing!! Thank you for getting back to me, gives me hope for when little one is here x

LRHRN · 28/11/2020 17:11

@lc86 I think with the expressing it just gives you abit of a break because they feed from the bottle quicker so In the night it takes me about 30mins to feed, wind and change where as if I breastfeed her it can take up to an hour 1/2.

Midwives at the hospital advised me to use a dummy because it lowers the chance of cot death as it helps baby swallow saliva and regulate their breathing xx

lc86 · 28/11/2020 17:20

@LRHRN plus it must be nice to know how much she is having and then you know you should get a few hours sleep 🙊 so interesting different people's theories on it all.. I've bought 0-2 month dummies, mam bottles and also the double breast pump ready.. just need the baby now 🤣

LRHRN · 28/11/2020 17:29

@lc86 yeah you just have to do what is right for you and your baby.
I've got the mam things too and I think they are definitely the best for mixed feeding because they are most nipple like but again some people may say different.

What I will say with breast feeding is the first 3 days are hell until your milk comes in. My baby was literally on and off my boob constantly and it made me really sore, ask the midwife at hospital to make sure your latch is right and put your nipple in from underneath first and try and put as much in as possible.
I very nearly gave up and can honestly say I cried constantly and tbh still cry a lot now but so glad I persevered as it's getting a lot easier even though I'm constantly feeding or pumping I do feel like a cow and my husband and kids call me Daisy 😂

LRHRN · 28/11/2020 17:30

@lc86 sorry if it's not your first baby and I'm telling you what you already know.
This baby is my third but first one I've breast fed xx

lc86 · 28/11/2020 17:35

@LRHRN I'm exactly the same, 3rd baby but first that I'm hoping to breastfeed! Really appreciate the advice, it's good to hear real life stories of how it is rather than how easy they make it look on tv and social media! Really pleased to hear it's getting better for you, I just need to stay strong and try and get past the first few days that he's here. I have managed to express some colostrum with the hakaa so hopefully if I do struggle that will come in handy xx

LRHRN · 28/11/2020 17:44

@lc86 yeah I looked on Pinterest and everything was all sunshine and roses. I didn't see one woman crying and pulling her hair out begging for formula 😂

How old are your other 2? I've got a 13yo boy and 9yo girl so a big gap and all the advice has changed I just do what works for me and my baby x

lc86 · 28/11/2020 17:47

@LRHRN I have two girls 10 and 7, having a boy this time 😬 yes that's all you can do isn't it. I think the closer it gets now the more anxious I'm getting as I just want everything to be perfect, which I know it won't be, but we can hope lol. I'm just hoping with covid etc and the girls being in school during the day it will give me and the baby more time to bond and hopefully master feeding! I never even wanted to try with the girls but this time I just really want it to work, think it's because this will be my last baby and I just want the experience.. I'm an emotional mess normally anyway, so god help me! 🤣

LRHRN · 28/11/2020 18:15

@lc86 you sound very similar to me as this is my last baby.
You'll definitely have time with baby and in a good way COVID has helped because people can't just turn up at your house and no visitors so you'll be able to sleep after the school run.
It will be amazing and I'm sure your girls will help xx

lc86 · 28/11/2020 18:30

@LRHRN definitely, I'll just be at home with my boobs out all the time 🤣 yes they will, they're so excited, I think we have lovely age gaps having slightly older children. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me.. I expect I'll have more questions when you're more settled and my little one is here 🙊 xx

peachypetite · 28/11/2020 19:09

Baby still won’t latch. We’ve had a couple of times where she’s almost got there and then starts screaming. I am expressing but it’s hard work and it takes me forever to get a decent amount. Also having to stay up during the peak prolactin hours whether baby is awake or not so feeling shattered.

Hey due date twin!!!
MrsSmith2020 · 28/11/2020 19:44

@Asianchick6693

Hey everyone, it's been a while. I never thought motherhood would be so hard. I'm enjoying the good bits but really struggling with the change of routine and lack of sleep. I don't know if I am doing right or wrong. My husband has honestly been my rock, he's helped out so much and stayed up so I can sleep etc.

@LRHRN I noticed you mentioned the shaking. I have also been having this but mine is more like crazy shivering and feeling cold. Midwife said stitches are healing nicely so doesn't seem like an infection probably just hormonal. However being this way has left me feeling really rubbish and I've spent two days in bed pretty much.

Also really struggling with breastfeeding baby. She's taken to it well. I try to pump but nothing comes out, only way it comes out is if baby is feeding which also means the other breast leaks. Can anyone give me tips on how to use the pump to get milk out?

My issue is she never seems satisfied? She feeds, falls asleep, I put her down and she wants to feed again. This makes me feel like I am non stop feeding her for hours on end. I ended up giving into using formula on occasion to satisfy her. Midwife said from the way she was drinking from my breast it sounds like I have good milk supply but why is she not satisfied? She can easily feed every 2 hours during the day but come night time she wants it every few minutes. I just feel like a machine right now as all I'm doing is feeding her. I'm so sorry for the rant guys. Really struggling right now x

Big hugs to you momma! You sound like you're doing an amazing job!

Just read your question about the other boob leaking while you're feeding, on Amazon you can buy "Medela milk Collection shells" you slip it into your bra instead of a pad and it safely collects your let down and any leaks.

I've been using mine a few times a day to harvest colostrum and it's made such a difference x

MrsSmith2020 · 28/11/2020 19:46

@Asianchick6693 sorry, forgot to say, I then use a syringe (one from the midwife) to suck up the milk and freeze it (ready for when baby is here) but you could leave it in the fridge to top up your little one when you feel like they need more.
Just a thought x

Babyevictionimminent · 28/11/2020 19:54

That sounds really tough @peachypetite. Sorry if it’s already been asked - but have you spoken to La Leche League or had support from any local breastfeeding consultants? This is one of those suggestions that could go really well or disastrously wrong, but could you try feeding her in the bath? My little one used to have the best feeds in the bath, I think because she started off so calm (she would go into a trance in a warm bath). And even if she doesn’t latch on it can be a calming experience for you as it sounds like you’re having a stressful time. I hope things get easier soon.

I remember those early days with breastfeeding, putting her down after a long feed and being in absolute disbelief when she’d start rooting again 5 mins later. It did get easier but some breastfeeding journeys are rockier than others, so be kind to yourselves x
