How helpful or unhelpful is everyone’s other half being? Mine is rubbish, he hasn’t read up on a single thing about pregnancy or labour or how to look after a newborn even though I bought him the expectant dad’s survival guide and let him know you can listen to it too (He’s not w big reader), and I try to involve him as much as I can and tell him what’s happening week to week but I can tell it’s in one ear out the other. Today he listened to one of his sports podcasts and they were interviewing someone who’s a new dad and after he listened he started telling me about how important skin to skin is and all this, I was like I know all that I’ve known it for ages and then he stormed off in a huff! I’m so fed up I feel like if I wasn’t doing all the reading up and getting lists of what to buy etc ready, the baby would arrive and neither of us would know what to do. Sorry that’s turned into more of a rant than I meant it to!

TerryRose · 14/01/2021 20:03

@maloney123 it's good to have a rant so don't apologise !! My fella isn't a reader either really but I do plan on doing an online antenatal class with him it's on for one day so I think that might work, I'm kinda taking charge of it all to be honest I feel like when the baby comes he will be super but it's hard I guess at the moment when they aren't the pregnant ones and it probably seems ages off yet, some men just don't think the way women think and don't know how to plan ahead 🤣 try not to get too stressed 😊

TerryRose · 14/01/2021 20:05

@Lovethatjourneyforme yeah it's walking for me as well although I've been quite lazy the past two weeks 🙈 especially with the frosty weather where I live it was too dangerous to be out. I need to keep up with my pelvic floor exercises as well 🙈🙈

Firsttimeconcerns · 14/01/2021 20:07

Thank you for everyone's replies. I really appreciate it Smile It is so useful to use this forum to check in on things

Evening all!
I have cravings.... clementines. Ive had 12 today i suppose it could be worse! We have found out we are having a little girl. In my head for the last 10 weeks, she has been a boy. He had a name and jungle themed bursery, now im struggling to refer to her as she instead of he! I have 0 girls names! But delighted shes fit and well.
Im also getting back and pelvic pain. Do birthing balls help with that? Pregnancy pillow arrives tomorrow!

TerryRose · 14/01/2021 22:04

@Fishingforhappiness we are having a girl also
, hubby thought it would be a boy and had been calling her him but we had a girls name picked and no boys name so kinda got off the hook🤣 delighted to hear she's all safe and well 🥰 I think you could definitely work around and make the jungle theme more feminine if that's what you want, definitely possible 🥰

TerryRose · 14/01/2021 22:05

If anyone is struggling with pregnancy congestion , I've been finding a spoon of Manuka honey in my ready brek/porridge really helpful , you could also put it on toast.

PurpleishDahlia · 14/01/2021 22:44

@maloney123 I hear you. My husband is experienced with babies from his little sisters and nephews, and very busy doing up the house all by himself. So I am not bothered he is not reading up on baby stuff BUT there's 1 thing I asked him the moment we found out I'm pregnant and he still hasn't done: start taking an online class once a week to become a little familiar with my first language. I am super stressed about raising a bilingual kid with a husband that doesn't understand a word of it.

17 weeks today, I had my 16 week appointment yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat 💖 My SILs and MIL keep sending us tiny clothes for the little one.

Wishing all of you a nice and relaxed evening :)

Waitingforbabypage · 14/01/2021 22:44

Oh my goodness @Penny2020 that scan pic is the cutest!

I still haven't got any proper "cravings" as such, just good old mcd's fries. Struggling to eat proper sized meals at the moment and I can't decide if it's because I'm actually just not hungry or if my stomach is starting to be squished or if I'm subconsciously noting how much weight I've put on. The first lockdown was not kind to me and so I've just added to that really. Trying not to beat myself up about it.
My OH a surprised me this evening by ordering the travel system 🥰 can't wait to play with it!!

Fightingtobepositive · 15/01/2021 08:51

My partners great but not done any research, although I’m so nervous that I won’t jump to far ahead myself so we are taking things slowly. We are also having a new kitchen done (middle of lockdown) so that’s taking a lot of time and energy at the mo.

I’m thinking of ordering a pregnancy pillow to, I need to look at some reviews for a decent and soft one. Also having a bit of discomfort. I want to do more exercise but not sure what I can push myself to (we had a tricky start)

As for the ‘conjestion’ I was in hosp at the beginning and started taking lactolouse, I stopped for a while but the discomfort was unbearable so my midwife has advised me to keep it up. So I take a cap every evening before bed, I hope it’s ok to continue when I see her next because I really do suffer with getting binged up 😳

We are having a boy and thinking simple and neutral colours 🤔 but still not sure

AlRRRR · 15/01/2021 09:23

@Fightingtobepositive Have you tried Flax seed and Chia seed added to things every day? It can really help constipation.

I have a green veg smoothie daily as well alongside turmeric/ ginger/ lemon and honey tea. Loads of water, maybe 8 glasses and 2 at night too, I used to have severe issues but doing these daily really help. (I am a veggie though and only eat feta occasionally) .

Waitingforbabypage · 15/01/2021 09:35

@PurpleishDahlia what's your first language?
Would he maybe try duolingo? I'm using it for Norwegian (because why not) and I'm finding it really easy to use and understand and doesn't feel like a "lesson" so to speak, it feels more like games?
It's so lovely you're getting little clothes parcels through 🥰
I can't wait to see what we're having so I can buy some colourful stuff. X

AlRRRR · 15/01/2021 09:48

@PurpleishDahlia We raise a trilingual child. I speak English and her father speaks Portuguese and Chinese and she's doing well.

I don't understand either haha, I speak mine and he speaks his and never caused any issues :D

AlRRRR · 15/01/2021 09:50

@PurpleishDahlia

Her father grew up with 3 languages, his mum spoke Portuguese, dad, Chinese and his parents spoke english between them as they could not speak either language, their english was broken and poor but they all managed the kids ended up trilingual.

Firsttimeconcerns · 15/01/2021 16:58

Hello everyone,

Can I just ask a quick question about when people got their whopping cough vaccine??

Snally82 · 15/01/2021 17:41

@Firsttimeconcerns it hasn’t been mentioned at any of my appointments

Burningbenches · 15/01/2021 18:02

@firsttimeconcerns I think my MW said 28wks. I'll double check though.

Firsttimeconcerns · 15/01/2021 18:18

Thank you - I was told 16 weeks onwards but then nurse suggested after 20 when I phoned to book. I have my midwife apt in a couple of weeks so will ask then too for clarification ☺️

AlRRRR · 15/01/2021 18:21

Mine said anytime from 16 weeks onwards but just book in with your next appointment to save going twice, so for me, that's 26 week app

lucieloos · 15/01/2021 18:25

@Firsttimeconcerns my midwife said anytime from 16 weeks. I'm booked in on Monday for it and will be 18 weeks.

PinkPlantCase · 15/01/2021 18:57

Anyone else booked on an NCT course? We did today, hoping to meet some local mum’s to be!

I’m a bit worried that I’ll be the youngest there, not that it really matters but I’m in my mid 20s and look about 12 in an area where most people wait until later.

swiftt · 15/01/2021 19:48

@Firsttimeconcerns I had mine at my 16 week appointment when I was 17 weeks.

OP posts:
TerryRose · 15/01/2021 19:51

@Firsttimeconcerns
I was advised 16 weeks onwards as well .

They are advising here in Ireland to get the Covid vaccine if it's offered to you while you are pregnant but at the same time saying it's your decision and it hasn't been tested on pregnant women and this is the advice they currently have . Now I am all for vaccines but it's harder when you are pregnant and it's a brand new one and you'd just feel cautious about everything, just wondering what other people feel ? (Again not saying people shouldn't get it just can't help be nervous !)

lucieloos · 15/01/2021 20:05

@PinkPlantCase I did an NCT course when I was pregnant with my first. The content was ok but it was mainly to meet other parents which it was great for. Still in regular contact with them all nearly 4 years later. Would recommend. I'm guessing they will be online now though?

Humpty11 · 15/01/2021 20:10

@Firsttimeconcerns I asked my midwife about the whooping cough vaccine at my 16 week appointment and she said she’ll remind me to book an appointment to have it after my 24 week appointment. But she said it can be given from 16 weeks.
@TerryRose I asked my consultant about it because I’m a nurse and there’s been loads of covid patients popping up all over the place over the last couple of weeks and he said that because I wasn’t clinically extremely vulnerable before I fell pregnant and there’s not enough clinical evidence to suggest how safe it would be he would advise me not to have it.
