I want to do this too. My midwife told me start at 36 weeks. Is it purely because it could induce labor? Because if so I'd rather avoid Christmas..

pigletpie2177 · 03/12/2020 12:36

@MissHoney85 I totally understand that. I remember having my last midwife appt last time and receiving various leaflets one of which was the magic of birth or something and sobbing all over my husband because I wouldn't get that. Then subsequently hearing stories of tears/stitches etc and thinking maybe it wasn't such a bad thing after all! EMCS never a great thing but my planned was a pretty serene experience (and I say that as someone terrified of needles) when my baby was in my arms very quickly thereafter.

@LiG123 definitely interested to look into colostrum harvesting more - though like @MeganC104 I'm not particularly looking to have this baby at Christmas! Are you doing it to bring on labour or to get a stash ahead of time? The latter is quite appealing...

LiG123 · 03/12/2020 13:57

@pigletpie2177 I think it's what made my breastfeeding journey work with no 1. Got a good stash which he didn't need for food but when he was a few months old and caught a cold it was like magic medicine. The benefits are amazing so they more I get get better it is for baby in my opinion.

LiG123 · 03/12/2020 13:58

@MeganC104 it's usually 37 weeks because it can bring in labour

Onekidnoclue · 03/12/2020 14:19

Didn’t realise it could bring on labour. I was doing it to build up a stash. Will keep my powder dry as definitely not after Jesus the sequel!

@Onekidnoclue Im 37 Weeks Xmas eve and OH has banned me until at least
Boxing Day 🤣

Grumpy19 · 03/12/2020 19:43

Ok ladies, sorry to go slightly off topic but I need to know how you would feel about the following given our imminent due dates!

I have found out today that the local child minder's son has Covid. This is a confirmed result. Apparently his younger brother was told to isolate 10 days ago but had no symptoms. The child minder decided to stay open for business during this period and children from the local primary school have been continuing to go to her house!

These children are in the same bubble as my children. The children who have been going to this childminders have been stopped as of today but they are all still in school and the school has said they are fine to continue to attend without being tested themselves.

Is it just me or does that seem bloody ridiculous!!! My children are sitting with other children who have spent 2 weeks regularly going to a child minder's house where there is a confirmed covid case and that is ok??!

Is it just me being over the top! Nobody I have spoken to really seems to give an arse!!

LiG123 · 03/12/2020 21:03

@Grumpy19 if her son has it she should be isolating too?

WhoUsedMyName · 03/12/2020 21:07

I'm over Covid, none of it makes sense at all! The receptionist at our school had confirmed case and no one else had to self isolate not even the other receptionist who works in in the office nor anyone that would have come into contact with her every day at school. Winds me up so I dont think about it x

Grumpy19 · 03/12/2020 21:09

She is now but they were told 10 days ago that the younger son had been in contact covid and needed to isolate (in their house) but she has continued to look after other children until the older boy got ill and tested positive.

Grumpy19 · 03/12/2020 21:11

I'm just worried my DH will end up being tested and told he can't come in with me during labour at this rate.

I’m really worried about this too. My in laws have decided they NEED a holiday and think it’s fine to go away for a fortnight before coming to us for Christmas. I’m less than thrilled as they’ll get off a plane, come to us and I’m classed as full time the next day!!! But it’s all within the rules so apparently fine ConfusedConfusedConfused The whole thing is a mess.

@Grumpy19 none of the rules make sense.

It is right though as long a her son was old enough to isolate in his room and it come downstairs it's fine.

My friends a childminder and was told the same if her kids get it

LiG123 · 03/12/2020 22:34

@Onekidnoclue I'd uninvite them. It's all
In the rules but doesn't mean we need to do it.

We are isolating from 24th December so just us at Xmas 💪🏼

Grumpy19 · 03/12/2020 22:38

I'm just so fed up today with it all. There are just so many idiots who push/ break the rules and don't care!

VeeVeeBee77 · 03/12/2020 23:07

I'm really worried about this as well. We've been cautious throughout the pandemic, WFH, masks when required and all that stuff and for it to potentially get in the way of something so important is a concern of mine
footprintsintheslow · 03/12/2020 23:19

@MissHoney85 I'm in a similar situation. Bump is 50th percentile, baby is over 100th percentile. As far as I can see a section will not be considered by them on size alone.

@Grumpy19 I would be livid and I would hope everyone boycotts this very irresponsible childminder and their business folds. Sorry but I think it's disgusting.

We are isolating from 27th. Stern talkings to mil and eldest child about Covid rules before coming here Xmas day.

LiG123 · 03/12/2020 23:25

Although I agree the childminder did follow the rules. I'd be more pissed off with the parents who still sent their children knowing this who then risked your children

footprintsintheslow · 04/12/2020 06:19

@Grumpy19 sorry I think I was a bit harsh last night. I'm in total agony with sciatica and I'm grumpy as hell.

I also assumed that she hadn't disclosed to the parents/customers that she has a confirmed case in the house. I think I'd still be livid if that was the case. But my comment was over the top last night.

LiG123 · 04/12/2020 06:49

@footprintsintheslow I think you sounded more passionate!

I think we do all see covid in a different light when it's our birth experience being jeopardised

Grumpy19 · 04/12/2020 07:31

@footprintsintheslow no need to apologise at all. I was fairly livid myself yesterday with quite a few people!
Disgustingly, one of the parents who left their children with child minder was then going off to work in an old people's home!!

I am going to talk to my children today about being extra careful with distancing and handwashing etc and we'll just have to hope.

One thing I hadn't realised until talking to a medical friends yesterday is that it can take weeks to test negative for covid. So if we got it now, there's a good chance that you're still going to test positive through most of January!

footprintsintheslow · 04/12/2020 08:08

@Grumpy19 so the parents all knew and continued using the service? I guess people must be desperate for childcare and to go to work to earn.

Anyway I've had two hours sleep, I've found a TENS machine for sale locally so getting that today plus I have a scan to see where this placenta is. I'm hysterical and excited at the same time.

Onekidnoclue · 04/12/2020 08:32

@footprintsintheslow sounds utterly miserable. Hope I’m not over stepping but I’ve had a load of back problems and found being a bit constipated makes it loads worse. Any chance you’re bunged up?
I was on lidocaine patches for a while which worked a treat but sadly not pregnancy friendly. I’ve found heat treatment and stretches a poor second best but they do help.
Good luck. Sciatica is dire.

Grumpy19 · 04/12/2020 08:40

Good luck with the TENs and scan footprints. I have had sciatica on and off this pregnancy and it completely stops me from doing anything normal! Hope you get some relief!

MissHoney85 · 04/12/2020 08:52

@footprintsintheslow good to know I'm not the only one with a hidden giant baby! Hope your scan goes well.
