@Flittingaboutagain thats awful some people are strange!

@PeanutButterFalcon they had half a baby event in Jan but some stock (everything i wanted) was delayed so the other half is next week!

The bigger thing i had been thinking of getting from there was the bedside crib which is around £80 however i have seen told that the Babylo one is £75 so can get that instead. The other bits i wanted from Aldi are smaller so feel happier to order before scan (changing mats, sheets etc)

I haven't bought anything yet but we do have a lot of what we need already

Luckyelephant1 · 08/02/2021 18:36

FTM and I've bought absolutely nothing yet, will wait till after my 20 week scan as I'm a bit superstitious like that. I did have my eye on a couple of things at the Aldi event but I think someone said on another thread they're around every 3 months so I will wait till the next one.

I can't believe bump shaming is a thing, that's awful! Mines still at the stage where if you looked at me in a tight top you wouldn't be sure if I had a bump or am just v bloated, I am looking forward to it becoming more defined but as long as baby is healthy that's all that matters!

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 08/02/2021 19:20

I also can't belive bump shaming is a thing. I feel really conscious of my bump and the thought of people commenting on it negatively is awful. Its amazing what our bodies are doing right now... although I have to keep reminding myself of that everyday.

Also told myself I wasn't going to buy anything until after 20 week scan, mainly because I hoped lockdown would have been over with by then, but my scan is next week. Does anyone know how long things like prams can take once you've ordered?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 08/02/2021 20:16

You can get things quick usually even next day depending on what you want / if you want it from a certain place

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 08/02/2021 20:52

People are actually insane aren't they bump shaming!

I know not everyone has had their 16 week appointments due to different areas but for anyone who has what happened? Did you get to hear the baby’s heartbeat? I’ve got mine tomorrow although I’ll be 17 weeks 6days 😂 but it got delayed due to snow! Really hoping I get to hear the heartbeat just as a bit of reassurance that he/she is still getting along nicely! Then only a few weeks until the 20 week scan! Xx

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 08/02/2021 20:56

@TiredAlreadyOhDear mine was a 5 min phone call at 17 weeks Sad previous pregnancies i have always heard heatbeat.

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 08/02/2021 21:52

I had mine a few weeks ago. Was basically a quick chat in person, checked my blood pressure and asked if I wanted to try and hear babies heartbeat. Feel lucky that I had an actual physical appointment!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 08/02/2021 22:29

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE that’s such a shame isn’t it :( I thought all mine would be over the phone to be honest (my booking appointment was) but this one is face to face to hoping I’ll get the option of a listen.

I know this might sound stupid but I was expecting to hear the heartbeat at the scan - but apparently that’s just not a thing 🙈😂 maybe I’ve watched too many films or something hahaha!

@FirstTimeMummy2021 glad you got to go and hear it! I bet it felt nice and reassuring to be able to check in! Xx

PeanutButterFalcon · 08/02/2021 22:43

@TiredAlreadyOhDear I’ve had a few scans so far (nhs) and have seen and heard the heartbeat each time. Was this at your 12 week one?

Luckyelephant1 · 08/02/2021 23:28

My 16 week apt was face to face with my allocated midwife (first time meeting or talking to her, someone else did my booking in stuff) and she was fab. The whole thing took about 30 mins, she discussed all my booking results eg bloods etc, what happens when I start feeling movements, things to do/not to do from on and so on. The schedule of appointments from now etc and what to expect. Tbh I already knew most of it but it was good she was so thorough, there was also a student midwife there so I suspect some of the detail may have been for her benefit too. Took BP and urine sample and got to listen to baby's heartbeat. She did say that apparently in my trust they 'are no longer supposed to listen to the heartbeat' at 16 weeks but that she'd do it as I asked... which I'm sure everyone does lol. I feel so lucky mine was in person reading on here.

@TiredAlreadyOhDear I got to hear the heartbeat at 12 week scan, thought that was pretty standard at NHS scans? That's something that the sonographer needs to record as well so they need to listen to it.

SB1712 · 09/02/2021 00:01

Hi all

I am new to the thread and am due on the 6th July. I’ve had a couple of private scans and will be 19 weeks tomorrow.
I’m having a bit of a wobble about my 20 week anomaly scan which isn’t for another couple of weeks. Has anyone had theirs yet? How is everyone feeling?
I’m bit the best with healthy anxiety at the best of time and have done the stupid thing of googling which has resulted in panic and tears Sad

@Luckyelephant1 I asked if I could hear the heartbeat at my 12 week NHS scan and they said no they don’t do it at 12 weeks. I heard it at my private 17 week scan for around 3 seconds or so.

Mrslouu · 09/02/2021 07:29

Hi ladies, what is everyone doing about ante natal classes. Is the nhs one sufficient or are you considering doing another? First baby on the way and due in July.

Thank you.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/02/2021 07:50

Baby #6 and i have never done a single ante natal class lol!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 09/02/2021 08:16

@PeanutButterFalcon @Luckyelephant1 yeah I’ve only had my 12 week NHS one and I said to the lady doing the scan - oh I thought I would hear the heartbeat and she was like no we don’t do the heartbeat only the scan - she zoomed in on it’s heart and you could see it beating - but no sound. Then I was thinking maybe I was wrong about the expecting to hear it. I’m mid-Yorkshire trust so maybe it’s just not something they offer. Hopefully I get to hear today at my late 16 week appointment :) I’m going to ask :)

Luckyelephant1 · 09/02/2021 13:58

Haven't had my date through for 20 week scan but I'll be 20 weeks on 22nd. I am getting a bit anxious about it too.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 09/02/2021 14:03

@Luckyelephant1 I got mine in the post about a week after my first scan. I guess every trust is different though. Just had my midwife appointment...got to hear the heartbeat she did say it wasn’t procedure to do it anymore however she said if I want to hear it just ask and she will always do it which was nice. :)

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/02/2021 14:47

I got mine about a week after last scan too

Good you got to hear the HB @TiredAlreadyOhDear

Anyone else currently homeschooling older dc? I am so over this Sad

Ive also seen one of the prams i was looking at brand new on ebay for 399 which is a really good price! Argh! If only i had had my scan!

PurpleCurtain · 09/02/2021 14:55

I really feel for you r.e. home schooling @THATbasicsSNOWFLAKE. I'm struggling to have the time and energy for my own work let alone anyone else's!

On 20 week scans, my appointment letter was waiting for me to collect at the hospital at my 12 week scan! Didn't realise that wasn't the standard - have you tried calling in case there has been a miscommunication?

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 09/02/2021 14:55

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE oh god I really feel for you with homeschooling! I bet it’s awful. Just me at at home working with the dog here - my other half is still going into his work as he can’t do it from home. I honestly don’t know how people are coping with the kids at home all day while juggling other things as well!

Luckyelephant1 · 09/02/2021 16:07

@PurpleCurtain yeah I called last week and they said a letter should come through this week and that my name is definitely on the system. If I haven't heard by Friday I'll call again. So I know it will be in the next 2-3 weeks, I just want a definitive date to count down till!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/02/2021 16:32

Thanks for the sympathies! Luckily i have been furloughed but still, i'm no teacher!

Saw a pram i like for £399 brand new on ebay. Ffs why haven't i had my scan yet! Bet its gone by time i have!

If you think it's a one time only opportunity, I'd still buy it I think? If the worst happened presumably it would hold its value for reselling it, not that that would then be on your priority list. Otherwise would the seller hold it for you/ delay despatch etc? If you're likely to find it at that price again though then perhaps wait!
TiredAlreadyOhDear · 09/02/2021 17:51

@PurpleCurtain @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE
Yeah I agree if it’s something you don’t think you’ll get again for such a good price I’d get it as well. I’m starting to keep my eye out now as hoping as soon as I see a good deal I’ll buy! Going to start decorating the baby’s room March/April time as well I think x

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/02/2021 07:13

I have messaged the seller however there are 12 people watching it so i think they won't hold it

Pram is usually about 750, 600 when on offer. I wouldn't ever pay 750

Luckyelephant1 · 10/02/2021 13:03

Sorry if this has been asked but what classes are people planning to do? I'm definitely going to do the free NHS ones that my trust offer, and get the positive birth company's hypnobirthing digital pack. A friend also recommended some free baby academy ones although I guess they will be similar to the NHS ones but hey they are free.

Are NCT ones worth it if just online? I know lots say they do the classes mainly to meet other mums and dad to be so if they were face to face I definitely would have, but not sure if it's worth the money for virtual classes.
