My current top two pram options are the babyzen yoyo or the bugaboo bee. I have a tiny car, small flat and live in a city so I need a compact pram that is easy to fold and it needs to fit in my car, I don't seem to have too many options sop hopefully I like one of these when I can go try them in a shop!

luxxlisbon · 29/01/2021 14:55
@PeanutButterFalcon exactly my thoughts - "great, I'm going to look like a farm animal when pumping, exactly what every woman dreams of" 😂

We've narrowed it down to 3 that we like but I want to go and actually try them like you said. They look good, but you don't know what it'll be like when you're actually using it! We'll probably buy one second hand but I'm tempted to order one from John Lewis or wherever and just try it in the living room. Apparently they're returnable as long as they haven't got dirt on the tyres and visible signs of use.
I don't know how widespread it is but it is worth looking up the specific baby shops in your area. There is one near me that is allowed to open for appointment only so it means you can have a demo of the prams/carseats etc.

PurpleCurtain · 29/01/2021 16:03

Not started looking at prams at all so this is interesting reading! Are other first timers generally thinking ahead and prioritising those that could be converted to a double or just focussing on the now?!

Also. My (also pregnant) colleague just told me I shouldn't have been eating this: www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/waitrose-chickpea--spinach-and-quinoa/832654-620139-620140
Apparently spinach is too high a risk in terms of listeria and even though I microwaved it for 3 mins that won't be enough?! I declined to mention that I've not been avoiding (cold) bagged/ restaurant salad. Anyone else struggling with comments from others about what they should/ shouldn't be eating?! I mean I've given up caffeinated drinks and alcohol, that's hard enough!

luxxlisbon · 29/01/2021 16:12

@PurpleCurtain I would say even though it is only 3 minutes steaming pieces of spinach that tiny would still cook it through. I really don't think there is a big risk with that at all, but obviously it is personal preference.

Overall I've been really relaxed about what I have been eating in pregnancy though. I haven't had listeria or food poisoning yet so I feel like in my diet the risk is so low that it isn't worth stressing over every single bite you have the whole 9 months.

Luckily I haven't really had any comments from busy bodys though, a benefit of lockdown!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 16:21

I tend to be pretty chilled with food too

In my first pregnancy i followed ALL the rules though

but i like my steak to not resemble a boot

I would eat bagged salad.

Pram wise i WISH i had shelled out on something that could be converted from single to double a couple of babies ago but i keep saying each one is my lastGrin

PurpleCurtain · 29/01/2021 16:34

Good to hear - we're pretty much vegan so bagged spinach, rocket, coriander etc are definitely staples of our diet and get through many packets a week! I like to think the overall risk to me is balanced out versus the fact I don't eat eggs, meat, cheese etc anyway!

Need to get my head around buggies then... so hard to think about what my normal non-COVID life with a baby might be like to think about priorities! My current thinking is that I'd want a 2nd fairly soon but obviously there are many reasons why that might not happen/ might change! Definitely need to at least highlight to DH how much buggies and baby things cost, as he keeps suggesting new expensive house projects and don't think he has a clue!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 16:38

Everything doesnt have to cost the earth to last though! I bought a cot brand new for £60 on offer in mothercare 8 years ago, it currently has its third baby in it and i will use it for new baby too! Some of the nursery furniture sets are eye watering!

PeanutButterFalcon · 29/01/2021 16:41

@PurpleCurtain I think we have the same husband! Mine is driving me insane today. I think he forgets that I’m pregnant sometimes although I’m sure the nursery will soon keep him occupied.
Whenever I show him anything baby he’s shocked at the price.
I’ve ate bagged salad etc no problems. The out of date meat however did not go so well.

Interesting to see everyone’s pram choices and how they’re so different. I had no idea half of these even existed.

luxxlisbon · 29/01/2021 16:48

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE Some of the nursery furniture sets are eye watering!

I know! I never understand why people pay so much for those tiny drawers and tiny wardrobes? Surely it just makes more sense to put baby/kid clothes in normal sized storage things or their clothes don't fit in the mini wardrobe after only a few years?!

PurpleCurtain · 29/01/2021 16:57

@THATbasicsSNOWFLAKE oh definitely, I more meant though that as our first all of these are new expenses that he hasn't thought about! My best friend's mum is a childminder and advised that a good buggy is the one thing worth spending on so I will be keeping that in mind but equally not aiming to limit myself to the top price range options!

@PeanutButterFalcon - brilliant! I also need to get mine started on what will be the nursery (need to clear out a tonne of my clothes from there first, oops).

AliceinBunniland · 29/01/2021 18:10

@PurpleCurtain Those don't sound like helpful comments re the spinach but I've been eating bagged spinach and herbs and nhs advice does not go against it

Nicolamca · 29/01/2021 19:02

@luxxlisbon I've heard loads of good things about the bugaboo bee, one of my friends has it and swears by it. I only got put off as it doesn't seem to do too well off road.

Good idea about baby shops - although I'm not sure if any are open at the moment??

CC81 · 29/01/2021 22:12

Totally agree with @luxxlisbon 👏 :

PeanutButterFalcon · 31/01/2021 13:46

Oh wow the heartburn has started! Never experienced it before in my life, think I’ve gotten lucky.

I’m now watching endless demo videos of prams trying to figure out which one I like.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 31/01/2021 13:48

Ah i have had heartburn for bloody weeks! Always do get it bad when pregnant! Rennies are your friend!

stickytoffeepud1991 · 31/01/2021 19:56

Sorry I haven’t been on here for a while!
Il add people to the fb group once I’m home from work as I need my laptop but if anyone wants adding PM me x

Flittingaboutagain · 31/01/2021 22:41

Can't understand how I keep losing the thread?!

Glad to have found you all again. I'm also on the Rennie's a lot - before and after meals and before bed, sleeping propt up.

I've just ordered the BB hug me and a support belt and gym ball on my chiropractor's recommendation. Fingers crossed it eases the PGP.

On the subject of prams etc all I realised today I'm usually such a visual person. Hate online shopping so would have definitely been in and out of stores trying various pieces of baby kit but with the pandemic I guess we'll all be watching videos online and trying to guess what we'd prefer!

This is my first and really thankful to the suggestion to consider getting a pram that can also be extended.

So helpful to have this thread for advice as I'm not on Facebook.

Flittingaboutagain · 31/01/2021 22:44

Still have only told two friends. If all is well at 20 weeks will tell family and other friends. Just couldn't face it after my loss last time.

How much movement are you getting? I can't wait. I'm told it'll be 20 weeks due to anterior placenta and jealous of those who can feel something now!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 01/02/2021 07:42

@Flittingaboutagain it’s my first pregnancy and I’m still not feeling anything yet - I’m 17 weeks on Wednesday - I don’t know if I’m just not recognising the feeling as I’ve never felt it before or if I just can’t feel anything yet..... I’m looking forward to some movement though! Xx

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 01/02/2021 08:42

Im 18+1 and until last night had just felt occasional flutters. Last night however had LOADS inc some roll like movements! Baby 6 for us though so no stomach muscles left Grin

Flittingaboutagain · 01/02/2021 09:50

Ah that's exciting....it's coming then!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 01/02/2021 09:58

When i had an anterior placenta with dc3 i think i was actually over 20 weeks more like 22/23 when i felt movement Sad (sorry)

Flittingaboutagain · 01/02/2021 10:15

Ah OK well at least I won't worry now if it takes a while longer!

Can anyone recommend maternity leggings please? I'm not sure whether I'll prefer over or under bump so was going to try one of each, so not an expensive brand ideally. My own are starting to get a little tight.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 01/02/2021 10:26

I have love leggings this time, last time i had some from top shop. Both have been ok. I dont like over bump ones pulled all the way up but i fold them over to around my belly button
