TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/11/2020 09:49

Yeah I think that's the case across NHS scotland @TallulahTaboo. Its interesting to see that nhs lothian let's partners/support person come to all appts though - NHS GGC is 12 week and 20 week scan only! Also, since my 12 week scan is a repeat they've said he cant come to that either!

Oh when was this update? So happy to see partners can still come to scans. Our 20 week is on the 10th December and we are both so excited about going, and perhaps finding out the sex!

fattymumbum · 09/11/2020 10:09

Anyone else's first day feeling alive today? After feeling brain dead, sick and tired for so long I thought I'd be feeling awful but I don't. It's sunny I might go out for a walk.

For anyone else struggling, I'm 14 weeks and now feeling better, so there is hope!! Xx

Fruitloops34 · 09/11/2020 10:10

Looks like partners can’t be there until you are in actual labour.

It’s an absolute joke and I’m sick of all this if I’m honest. We need to learn to just get on with things.

Queenbee95 · 09/11/2020 10:22

I think my labour will be very fast this time around anyway. 1st was 24hrs, 2nd 6hrs.. so a massive drop in timescale!

Been thinking about home births a lot recently but I’d really love another water birth and I know I wouldn’t be able to get a birthing pool into my flat

TallulahTaboo · 09/11/2020 10:40

@TheDaydreamBelievers it's so odd that different health boards have so many different rules compared to the neighbouring town. Thankfully hubby has been able to come to all my scans and MW appointments which has been nice. And my MW has been lovely!

Fingers crossed the rules do change prior to us all giving birth.

Has anyone considered a home birth? xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/11/2020 11:10

Like @Queenbee95 I dont think the pool would get into my flat! I'm hopeful of a midwife led room with loads of cushions and space to move and a bath so I can maybe do a water birth @TallulahTaboo !

Glad your midwife is nice, the one I had at QUEH is a bit odd... but about to be passed to a new one in community anyway!

I’d love to get back into the Lothian birthing suite. I went there for DS2’s birth, it was lovely, so much more relaxing than the Labour ward

Buffbeag · 09/11/2020 11:35

I haven't even thought about the birth...every time I do I panic a little bit lol.

I would be devastated if my partner can't be with me the whole time especially as I have suffered anxiety in the past so fingers crossed it changes before I am due in Amat 🤞

What's the advantages of a water birth to those who have had?

Buffbeag · 09/11/2020 11:36

Due in May*

Queenbee95 · 09/11/2020 11:40

I HATE going in the bath, I just can’t sit in the hot water.. but my water birth was amazing compared to my Labour with 1st. I just felt more relaxed and calm.

Of course there’s less use of drugs, so if you’re thinking of asking for the epidural then a water birth is not for you.

My 1st Labour I ended with every drug available, and emergency kiellands forceps.
2nd Labour was just gas and air and the birthing pool

Buffbeag · 09/11/2020 12:00

@Queenbee95 so do the drugs make the labour harder?

Queenbee95 · 09/11/2020 12:30

More manageable pain-wise. Every woman is different though.

With my first it was a horrific Labour, which kept stopping and starting so I ended up needing the hormone drip to speed things up. That really ramped up the pain, so I needed gas and air pretty much straight away. I then had morphine and the epidural later on.

I guess my body knew what was expected of it second time round so I was able to handle it a lot better

Buffbeag · 09/11/2020 12:57

@Queenbee95 yeah it's really hard to make a decision when you have no experience lol. Hoping things might make more sense after a bit more research

Welliedays · 09/11/2020 13:05

Hello again, I'm 16 weeks and in Tayside. Not getting too hung up about rules and regs yet as it can change alot of times between now and when I give birth. Also no point getting stressed about it as we can't change the decision. What will be, will be and we'll manage either way

Fruitloops34 · 09/11/2020 13:42

Anyone got any signs of a bump yet?

I’m 15 weeks tomorrow and have quite a protruding stomach and have done for the last week. Not sure if it’s fat lol, bloat or actual baby. My mum(bless her) wants to keep feeling it and I’m like “mum it’s just fat not baby” 😂

Kaboomba · 09/11/2020 14:10

I'm baby number 3 and will be a c-section birth.

Regs in Ayrshire don't appear to have changed yet but hoping by the time May comes round things are nearer to normal.

singleandttc · 09/11/2020 15:04

@Fruitloops34 I've had horrendous bloating for weeks now. I'm 11+2 now and I'm huge. My belly was nice and flat before but my muscles all gave way at 4 weeks and the bloat has popped out. I've had to wear stupidly baggy clothes that just make me look huge for ages now trying to cover up the belly. Will be such a relief in a week when I can tell everyone and stop looking so frumpy. I knew my muscles would be worse 2nd time round but I have a very obvious belly and it's not even baby yet. I feel ridiculous.

GrandTheftWalrus · 09/11/2020 15:24

DH isn't allowed to come to my midwife appointments but he is allowed to come to my scans just now.

TallulahTaboo · 09/11/2020 15:29

It's really crap but I suppose it's the way things are nowadays 🤷🏼‍♀️ we can only hope that the policy changes come next year or covid does one!?

I would love a water birth too but I understand that you can plan every part of labour.

Definitely sounds like your labour will be a quick one @Queenbee95! Maybe a good thing!?

@Fruitloops34 your still early but you will wake to find you've 'popped' one morning. My bump appeared around 18-20 weeks 😳 I'm one day off 25 weeks and there's no denying my bump!

Queenbee95 · 09/11/2020 15:29

@Fruitloops34 I’ve had a “bump” since around week 9/10. Maybe cause it’s baby 3, maybe cause I’m considerably skinnier this time around.. 15w and it’s a full on noticeable bump now, wish it was all baby and not just fat tho hahah! Really hoping it’s not a sign of a ginormous baby

Queenbee95 · 09/11/2020 15:31

@Buffbeag yeah I know what you mean. Everyone is totally different and you may not need the drugs as much as other women do.

I must admit that the epidural helped with the pain during labour 1, but 5 years down the line I wish I never got it. The back pain I have now is sometimes horrific!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/11/2020 16:05

@Queenbee95 do you feel the epidural contributed to back pain? My overall hope is for a water birth with gas and air but looking to be informed about all the options in case needed!

MrsC01 · 09/11/2020 16:07

Hi all!

Hope you don’t mind me joining - I’m due mid July so think I can just about sneak in. I’m just under 5 weeks so still very early.

I’m NHS Tayside, this is our third baby!

Congratulations to all Smile

Queenbee95 · 09/11/2020 17:02

@TheDaydreamBelievers oh yes. I was 19 when I had the epidural. 25 now and I get regular back pain, in the exact place where I had the epidural. I find it worse when I’ve been walking for a while, or when it’s considerably colder outside (winter is the worst obv)
