Can I join?! I'm new here Smile.

Interesting to hear a mix of experiences, even in the same health boards. I'm Glasgow, due June 2021 but haven't had dating scan yet (I'm 10+2) - that's at the start of Dec. Had a lovely booking appointment where we all had such a good laugh, really put me at ease! Was there for hours. Was given all my appointments there and then, for a telephone consultation at 15 weeks and my 20 week scan date Smile.

Because I'm absolutely paranoid(!), I've already had a sneak peek early scan at 8 weeks and have a Harmony test booked on Sat (which I thought would make me feel better but I feel sick at the thought of, if that makes sense!). I'm 35 BTW so been worrying about being high risk.

So far, not had a lot of symptoms so that also freaks me out ha ha! Sorry for the novel, just feels good to talk to people, nobody knows yet. MN has been a Godsend, been lurking for ages and finally bit the bullet and joined yesterday!

Wanderdust · 16/11/2020 13:28

Oh @sunnysideup3 just saw your message! I'm booked in with ABC4D as I was under the impression they were the only ones in Scotland who do NIPT? I've clearly not did my research! Will keep you all posted.

Hey. I just found out I’m pregnant with baby #2 on Saturday! I’m around 7 weeks (I think!) so due date will be early July.

I’m currently waiting on confirmation of my booking appointment but also booked the harmony test when I am 10+6. I had it with baby #1 so was keen to do the same with this baby.

DH and I are still a little shell shocked as this pregnancy happened so quickly! It took around 8 months to conceive baby #1....I stopped the pill July/August with first period end Sept. Had been waiting on my next period so that I could start tracking cycles. When it didn’t appear I done a test and it was positive. Very excited but actually feel unprepared as it was quicker than I thought!

Hope everyone is feeling ok?

singleandttc · 16/11/2020 14:01

Hi @Wanderdust @bubblybrit I had my NIPT done via the nhs for previous high chance reasons and it was terrifying. I was so worried it would come back as Edwards or pataus. It's such a relief now it's come back though saying all is low chance so I'm just waiting for my next scary thing- my 12 week scan tomorrow morning and then I will finally be able to relax a bit.

@Wanderdust I can't believe your healthboard is so organised! At my booking appointment my midwife assumed I'd have had a letter about my 12 week scan by then but I didn't so she phoned them and I got a time and date on a post it. The letter never came! I have no idea how my 16 week appointment will be booked or 20 week scan. I'm hoping I get letters. If they even arrive this time. I've got the app and it's been updated with my booking appointment info but not bloods or scan appt or anything like that. I feel things aren't very organised here in forth valley.

singleandttc · 16/11/2020 14:02

Sorry I did the weird bold thing again. No idea what I did... it's not meant to be weird..

bubblybrit · 16/11/2020 14:09

@singleandttc. That’s brilliant news that your results are all low risk. I remember the anxious wait when I got the NIPT with my DD. Was such a relief when I got the low risk confirmation. Hence why I’ve booked the NIPT for this little one. Good luck with your scan tomorrow 😀!

bubblybrit · 16/11/2020 14:13

@singleandttc. I meant to add that I’m Forth Valley as well and they so aren’t organised. I’ve just completed a form so that they can arrange my booking in appointment. It stated whether I wanted all future appointments to be sent via email or post. I selected email as wasn’t receiving all confirmations in the post when I was pregnant with DD!

Buffbeag · 16/11/2020 14:19

@singleandttc @bubblybrit I am also FV and other than it taking over 2 weeks to get in contact with someone for my booking appointment, since then I have actually been happy with the organisation of everything.

I got my 12 week scan appointment at my booking appointment, then two days after the 12 week scan got my 16 week appointment and my 20 week scan came in post about a week later. I also have already got a letter confirming my diabetes test in Feb.

I am 36 so we also got our tests done and everything came back within 2 days and was posted on the app.

Maybe it is to do with the midwife team you are assigned to as per your local area?

bubblybrit · 16/11/2020 14:29

@Buffbeag. I’ve emailed and left a voicemail regarding my booking appointment. It was pretty quick last time but it sounds as if I might be in for a longer wait this time round!

Buffbeag · 16/11/2020 14:34

@bubblybrit yeah I called and left message twice and then decided to email them instead. They finally replied to my email 2 weeks after I sent it. They then just sent me a form to fill out and then once I sent that back I then got a call with the appointment. Overall it was about 3 weeks. I was worried as I was nearly 11 weeks before I actually saw a midwife lol

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/11/2020 14:46

@bubblybrit @singleandttc what's weird is that it isnt @Wanderdust's healthboard being organised- shes in the same healthboard as me and I had a 10 minute phone call as a booking appt, and they wont give me the date of my 20 week scan till the one on thursday. So weird how much it varies!!! Not just by healthboard but WITHIN a health board

bubblybrit · 16/11/2020 14:47

@Buffbeag. That’s not great. I hate waiting around. It’s the worst thing about the early stages of pregnancy for me! Did you attend a face to face appointment with the midwife for booking appt or was it virtual?

bubblybrit · 16/11/2020 14:49

@TheDaydreamBelievers. The booking line says that someone will call you back later that day but that doesn’t seem to be the case! I’m quite an organised person so hate all the waiting and chasing appts!

Buffbeag · 16/11/2020 14:51

@bubblybrit yeah as a first time mum it was hard waiting so long. All my appointments have been face to face so far. Have my 16 week at end of this month as well which is also face to face.

As I say other than the wait originally everything else has been really good and thankfully my partner has been allowed to come to them too so hopefully nothing changes in the next couple of months

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/11/2020 14:55

Me too @bubblybrit! I'm quite "type A" (evidence A = my list of people on the thread by healthboard!) so hate that the appts only come a couple of weeks out.

I have a scan on thursday (12 week) so at least I get to see wee one again. Then a community midwife appt in a couple of weeks so I get to leave the abrupt hospital one behind!

OP posts:
bubblybrit · 16/11/2020 15:01

@Buffbeag. That’s good that your partner was allowed to attend. I wasn’t sure what to expect so fingers crossed nothing changes.

bubblybrit · 16/11/2020 15:04

@TheDaydreamBelievers. Midwives can be so hit and miss! I had a lovely team throughout my last pregnancy but had a rather abrupt midwife shortly after I gave birth. Was so pleased to be heading home! Oh it is lovely to see the little ones during the scan 😀

HeyDW96 · 16/11/2020 16:44

Hey, hope you are all well! Sorry to see that some of you are having huge variations in standard of care, must admit I have been lucky and had face to face appointments with my lovely midwife and always get my appointments posted and uploaded to the app.

I know it's still early but I like to plan ahead, how many of us are planning a community hospital birth? Assuming I stay well through the pregnancy and so does baby, I just think I'd feel a lot more relaxed there rather than the infirmary!

Queenbee95 · 16/11/2020 16:56

@MrsKMum hey when in April are you due? I’m the 30th, Edinburgh too! This is my third baby though

Queenbee95 · 16/11/2020 17:05

@HeyDW96 I’m hoping to go to the MLU again, I did for my second birth. It’s attached to the hospital though so quick transfer (literally an elevator ride upstairs) if anything was to go wrong. Really been thinking about home birth this time too though

singleandttc · 16/11/2020 17:13

@HeyDW96 glad I'm not the only one planning the birth already. I think I have the option of the alongside midwifery unit rather than the labour ward. I'm hoping for a water birth but I like that help is nearby in case of emergency. I just hope I make it to the hospital. I'm slightly anxious I'll give birth before I make it in. With my first I only had 3.5 hours from first twinge to delivery and very nearly gave birth alone on my bathroom floor... I asked the midwife about it at my booking appointment and she suggested going into hospital really early into labour as it might happen really quickly again.

HeyDW96 · 16/11/2020 17:27

@Queenbee95 @singleandttc my midwife has just assumed that I'll be having the baby in the maternity hospital, but there is also a community unit which is the same distance away but is another health board!

We're near both Grampian and Tayside, I haven't heard great things about the maternity hospital and I know how busy and stretched their services are. I'm also so keen to use the pool and the midwife unit have quite a few of them, just worried that if I do go for midwife unit that isn't hospital attached I may need to be transferred. If we have any more I think I'll opt for home birth if possible, although I'm a nurse, I have white coat syndrome and get quite anxious, I feel really safe with the community midwife and I hate that when I'm in labour I have to go into a big hospital with nobody that I know and midwifes that are probably just as busy and stretched as I am during a normal working day!

HeyDW96 · 16/11/2020 17:32

@singleandttc oh my goodness, that is very quick! Must have been scary being a FTM and may be faster second time round!

singleandttc · 16/11/2020 22:44

@HeyDW96 yea it was really scary. I had no idea how far along I was until I suddenly needed to push. I had been so calm until then! Even then I thought I was just being hysterical and the midwives would laugh at me when I turned up by ambulance but no, two pushes later she was here. I have horrible nightmares of giving birth in a supermarket or something. When I'm nearly due I won't leave the house without a bag of essentials like clean towels in case I don't make it in. My daughter came out with a big bump on her head- they said it was because she came out so fast, so that made her jaundice and we had to stay in the hospital for a few days for her to get light treatment so although a quick labour is good in some ways it's scary and we both came out of it a little battle worn. I'm hoping for a slightly more normal delivery this time.

Fruitloops34 · 17/11/2020 08:50

16 weeks today and wonder if the midwife will call today. They did say she would call at 16 weeks so not sure if they meant the day of or at some point throughout the week. Anyone had their 16 week? Was it over the phone or face to face?
