@BabyBumpIncoming

I’m not Lothian I’m Ayrshire but my 16 week app was literally a two minute call to ask how I was feeling and that was it. I didn’t even get it till 17 weeks as they forgot about me. I doubt they use the Doppler until at least you are 22 weeks.

Thanks for replying - that's a bit rubbish! Weird how different health centre have different rules as mines is a face to face appointment on Thursday. Had most of my booking appointment over the phone though then had to go in after phone call to give blood, pee, BP etc so not a long appt at all.

Seems like everything is up in the air just now 😫 first baby for me so just feel pretty in the dark between appointments.

Happy new year ladies!

@CardiganBlobby good luck with your scan I hope everything goes well for you.

I have my 22 week midwife appointment this week and will be the first appointment my partner can't come to which is a bit upsetting. He is really down about it and whilst I know it is just a ten min check up appointment can't help but be disappointed ☹️

Only positive just now is my symptoms are much more manageable now yay!

Hello! Hope its okay to join in, I'm a first timer due early May in Edinburgh (moved down in March and know hardly anyone !) Nice to find a Scottish mum group - I've been feeling a bit lost about most things to be honest, but confirmed we are having a wee boy at the 20 week scan - so things are feeling more real haha.

@BabyBumpIncoming I’m in Lothian. At my 16 week appointment I was told midwives aren’t supposed to listen for heartbeat because it can still be early and they may struggle to pick it up.
My midwife did check though, she’s been a midwife for a very long time (she was my sisters midwife 19 years ago!) but she did tell me not to go saying on Facebook or whatnot that she done it as she’s not really supposed to

Thanks for getting back to me, had my appointment yesterday and she didn't measure or do heartbeat 😥 said it was too early, which is what I was expecting but still a bit gutted. Just need to look forward to the scan now. Hope you are keeping well ☺️

Hi ladies, can I join? I’m 19 weeks with my first baby (boy). NHS Lanarkshire here. Due start of June, but have a family history of pre-eclampsia so could be May x

I’m 17 weeks in Edinburgh too Smile I had my midwife appointment today and she did check for the heartbeat, but only because I asked. However she did say she could only do it if I was going to be okay with the possibility of not hearing one as it is still early. She struggled to find it at first only because all she could hear was the baby kicking around! But all was well. I think it’s just to protect you from any anxiety between now and 20 weeks. Smile

Welcome to the new joiners!

Had my 20 week scan and all was normal - such a relief. I feel like I should be feeling movements now but I have absolutely no idea what I should be expecting to feel. Any suggestions on what to look out for would be appreciated!

Report
Lifeonmars12 · 08/01/2021 22:28

@CardiganBlobby my movements at 17 weeks started as what as I can only describe as flicks from the inside, like someone was flicking me with their finger gently. It then got harder and harder as the weeks have went on. 23 weeks now and I can feel her kicking away every day. Hope you feel soon.

Buffbeag · 09/01/2021 00:56

@CardiganBlobby I am 22 weeks and still haven't felt much movement but I have an anterior placenta so midwife said it can take longer to feel things.

I have had a few feelings a bit like when you go over a wee hill in the road and your stomach turns a little and a couple of similar feelings to what @Lifeonmars12 describes.

Report
Queenbee95 · 09/01/2021 09:32

It feels like bubbles or taps sometimes! I had an anterior placenta with my second and didn’t feel movement until 21 weeks so don’t worry (first was 17 weeks, third 14 weeks)
I’m 24 weeks now and you can see my whole stomach move every time she kicks and moves!

Hi ladies not been on here for a while. I've not really had much contact with my midwife which has been a bit frustrating. I'm 19 weeks now after my date moved forward 4 days after i finally got access to the app.

I've not seen my midwife since the start of October and still have anther month before I'm booked back in to see her again. I text her the other day to ask what was happening and she phoned and said I was on the list to phone that day, think they actually forgot about me though!

Nausea has stopped still sick at nights every now and then. Pelvis joints are pretty sore so I'm waiting for an appointment with physio for that. Have felt little flicks but not much else but I also have an anterior placenta. 20 week scan is 2 weeks tomorrow 😊

CardiganBlobby · 10/01/2021 17:16

Thanks all for the suggestions. Sometimes I think I feel something but I can never be sure it's not wind Grin. I'm hopeful that I will start to recognise movements a lot more as the wee one gets a bit bigger in the next few weeks. My placenta is posterior so not really expecting anything else getting in the way of feeling something!

@Buttercup20 hope you get everything organised with the midwife soon - I have to admit I have never had contact details for a midwife. I think I would just phone the central number if I had to reach someone - perhaps there is that option for you too in case your midwife is not available?

@CardiganBlobby my 2nd and I still can’t tell either Blush

How soon did everyone tell work? I feel nervous to let them know as I’ve only been back for a 9 months but doesn’t feel like that with Covid and wfh. I’m sure they will be absolutely fine but still feel quite anxious!

Have any of you started buying for the baby yet? I’m 17 weeks but have been more preoccupied sorting the house. Not sure when’s the best time to do the buying of the big things eg pram etc.

Report
Buttercup20 · 11/01/2021 12:53

@Gaxy1 we've bought our pram just before Christmas but thankfully the store holds it until whenever you need it. I've bought a few little vests and bibs so far but nothing much. We're going to sit and make a list of things we're needing and take it from there. I'm 19 weeks just now xx

Report
Buffbeag · 11/01/2021 16:51

@Gaxy1 we didn't buy anything at all until last week. I am now 22 weeks. Now starting to panic as haven't ordered a pram yet and they can take 3 months so we are planning on getting that done this week. Although it's rubbish we can't go look at them in the shops 🙄

We were concentrating on clearing out our spare room so we can get it decorated but made a list last week of everything my we needed to get and it was so long decided should probably start lol

Thank @Buttercup20. A friend got me a bit panicked that I hadn’t started buying yet.

Hi I was just wondering if there was anyone in the Glasgow area that could let me know how many weeks your first appointment was? I’m only 5 weeks gone but I called the midwife for advice (first baby) and they literally said call at 6 weeks but I’m just curious as to what the process is at 6 weeks if they arrange to see you or just take your details and send you thru a 12 week appointment? Thanks so much!

Buttercup20 · 11/01/2021 18:00

@Gaxy1 phone around some pram places if you haven't. I've bought mines from Jan Stewart and she's still open by appointment only x

@MrsMcNtobe congratulations 😊 I'm East Kilbride so may be slightly different. I was 8+4 when I had my first appointment midwife. Prior to this I had a phone call just to go complete some questions to let them log me onto their system x

@MrsMcNtobe I called a number I was given by my GP (can’t remember what the number was). It put me through to a booking system for my midwife appointment and scan. I think it was about 10 weeks my first midwife appointment.
