EdininiaMonsoon · 20/10/2020 00:51

Thanks @NWnature and @Zaalfruit. I can't really believe how quickly it all happened. I started having period type pains in the evening and tracked them using an app, but they were all over the place and when I called the hospital they said I didn't need to come in yet. Then all of a sudden the contractions were two and a half minutes apart and so strong I couldn't even sit in the bath. By the time my husband had called the hospital and we were out the door, I could already feel myself starting to push. Five minutes later my husband was calling an ambulance while still driving and I was screaming down the phone "She's coming out now!". He just had time to pull over on a roundabout as I pulled my leggings down, crouched on the passenger seat and guided her out with my hands. The cord was round her neck and she didn't breath for a few seconds (which felt like a lifetime), but thankfully I was on the phone to someone from the ambulance service and they talked me through it. Then the ambulance people turned up and cut me out of my leggings to get us untangled. We still need to work out how to clean the blood etc. out of the car properly!

I think I'm slightly traumatised by it, but I suppose it is a good story and it showed me what my body can do without any help. Apparently it's likely to be even faster next time (if I can brave a next time!), and they've said I should have a home birth to prevent it happening again.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 20/10/2020 03:35

@EdininiaMonsoon oh wow what a story. I'm sorry to hear it seems traumatic for you x

Viletta · 20/10/2020 06:08

@EdininiaMonsoon wow what a story! You managed this brilliantly! I can only imagine how stressful it must have been for both you and your husband! Next time I guess you'll be going in as soon as contractions start or indeed have a home birth. What a story to tell to your little one! Enjoy your little one you deserve a medal!

Zaalfruit · 20/10/2020 08:47

@EdininiaMonsoon just so amazing your birth story. I would be so traumatised aswell , but you are so brave and strong - you did so well . No idea why must be the hormones but your birth story made me teary.

Zaalfruit · 20/10/2020 08:48

@NWnature how are you feeling ?

NWnature · 20/10/2020 08:58

@Zaalfruit morning! No signs sadly, have had little bits of plug coming away but nothing major and no twinges really. I was wiped out from the walking - I’ve just woken up! Going to walk again today and stay on the ball all day but take it a bit easier I think. Maybe the second one on Weds will do the trick! Either was I’m feeling a bit more positive because even if I have to have the induction on Friday it does sound as though my body is doing what it’s supposed to what with the softening etc. I’m still a bit curious as to what is going on with the baby’s head/ position given they had three midwives feel yesterday! But I’m pretty confident not breech as I think they would scan and the movements and heartbeat all suggest head down which is what my original midwife (who I’ve see all through but is now on hols) has said all along. The midwife who did the sweep mentioned a bubble of water or something being in the way of her really feeling around the head properly, not sure what to make of that really - whether it’s stopping the head getting down properly into the pelvis.

Anyway as I say definitely feeling much more positive , it’s mad how a bad vibe from a particular midwife or appointment can completely throw you.

Baby will be here by Saturday anyway as that is the 42 week mark and I think I’ve succumbed to the stats rather than hold out any further.

marauder1994 · 20/10/2020 10:37

@NWnature I agree that one midwife can make you panic. I had a midwife who was covering my midwives break on the night I went into labour. She came in and told me babies heart rate had dropped and I needed to push now !!

Cue panicking from me to the point I couldn't push properly coz I kept checking the monitor to check his heart.

Turns out it hadn't dropped ! She had misread the notes and hadn't bothered to double check or check with my normal midwife 🙄

Viletta · 20/10/2020 12:14

@NWnature my plug came out hours into active labour. My first signs were Braxton Hicks and subtle period pain. It can all start all of a sudden. It's great that your cervix started doing the thing meaning baby is ready and released the signaling hormone! I'd suggest sleep lots, eat well, walk and relax. Baby will be with you soon!

EdininiaMonsoon · 20/10/2020 12:19

Thanks so much for your lovely comments. I think all of our experiences are tough in their own ways and take a lot of strength to get through. I hope everyone's enjoying their first few weeks with their little ones, and best of luck to those expecting their arrival in the next few days!

Buzz22 · 23/10/2020 16:09

I see the thread is dead now everyone has moved over to Facebook. I dont have an account so just an update in case anyone sees it and to say thank you for all the support over the past 9 months

Baby girl was born sunday 18th oct. I was induced friday morning. Contractions started Friday evening on the antenatal ward. I was moved from antenatal to labour ward on Sat eve to have my waters broken. Contractions then came on really quickly, I laboured in the birthing pool for 5 hours however baby was found to be back to back and I had only dilated a further 1cm so it was agreed I would go on the drip and have epidural.
The epidural did nothing for the back to back contractions and babies heart rate dropped so the consultant came to check ctg and and realised the contractions were most likely compressing the cord so I needed an emergency c section.
In theatre it took longer than the anesthetist expected to top up epidural. When the obstetrician made the first insicion I felt everything. I had to have general anesthetic so my partner had to leave theatre.
I spent nearly 6 days in hospital and we are finally home. Felt awful as I have no memory of meeting my daughter or the first 24 hours of her life. I also feel bad my partner couldn't be there for the birth.
The consultant said the cord was wrapped around babies torso and legs so it would always end up as a c section. The anesthetist said my joint hypermobility syndrome was likely the cause for the failure of the epidural...apparently a known issue. We were aware of this before theatre which is why we spent so long topping it to a full block but obviously it was unsuccessful. I also tried to get up off the bed once i was brought round from the general anesthetic irritating the wound.
My partner said I spent the 7 hours with him and baby in recovery in a state of total distress about not being able to hold the baby without help. So all in all not the birth I expected. But she is here and is beautiful and healthy with a full head of hair.
Hope you are all going well. Have all the babies arrived now?

blankiesandunicorns · 23/10/2020 16:36

@Buzz22 wow what a birth story and I am so sorry you had to go through all that, I hope you are coping ok. So happy your baby arrived safely and doing well. Look after yourself and take each day as it comes so you can recover physically and mentally. Let others look after you Thanks

SkyBlue20 · 23/10/2020 16:56

Wow, @Buzz22, what a hero you are. Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl, I hope you’re both doing well! 💕
I’ve been wondering about you and the other ladies still waiting so thank you for updating! I think @LexiM and @NWnature were both close, too? Would love to hear updates ☺️

StuckInTheMiddleWithTwo · 23/10/2020 17:21

Congratulations @Buzz22! Sorry it was such an ordeal for you. If it helps, I've had two vaginal births now and neither were the magical rush-of-love experiences I'd heard so much about. I was just so relieved it was over! I do understand the feeling though, bless you.

Why not make a Facebook account? Takes a couple of minutes and you can use a fake name even, if privacy is a concern. That's what I did. We'd love to have you join.

LostinAusten2 · 23/10/2020 18:13

Congratulations @Buzz22 - really well done for just getting through that! And very glad you’re home with your little one ❤️ Do recommend you and @SkyBlue20 reaching out to @BntTowers re Facebook, would be great to catch you there x

otterbaby · 23/10/2020 18:34

I echo others about the FB group. It's been really lovely.

StuckInTheMiddleWithTwo · 23/10/2020 19:53

Treacle81 · 23/10/2020 19:59
