Good luck @Buzz22 hope it goes well and you have baby in your arms so soon x

LexiM · 16/10/2020 10:45

@SkyBlue20 congratulations and I wish you the best for the rest of your pregnancy. Please come back on this post and let us know! The time does go so fast.

@Buzz22 thinking of you and hope your induction goes smoothly.

I had contractions all night, much stronger than any feelings before and then i got up at 5am and they stopped. I have read online that this is quite common is the latent stages of labour so I'm just waiting it out with a mixture of resting and going on my ball. Hoping they start up again today and not days later! The midwife said it's good as it gives me time to rest between phases, so I will take that but I am getting impatient now! 😂

NWnature · 16/10/2020 17:07

Oh gosh it seems for some people so stop and start @LexiM you have the patience of a saint!

I have still had zilch signs whatsoever, no plug, no braxton hicks, no cramps, nada!!!! Been out walking again today and now back on the ball.

Have 41 week midwife app tomorrow when they will attempt a sweep so will see how that goes!

@SkyBlue20 so nice to hear from you and congrats on a little girl 💗

Treacle81 · 16/10/2020 22:57

@Buzz22 thinking of you 💕 x

NWnature · 17/10/2020 13:18

They couldn’t even do a sweep for me today as the babies head isnt engaged. Asked me about induction dates- want to cry!!! I just want to go into labour naturally and get in the birth centre and I’m trying everything 😭

Treacle81 · 17/10/2020 13:56

@NWnature sorry to hear that, I was the same, gutted to be induced and section was my worst nightmare never mind an emergency one, getting battered down a corridor in sheer panic. As long as baby arrives safely though that is all that matters 💕xx

LexiM · 17/10/2020 19:39

@NWnature so sorry to hear that, I know it's probably not helpful but I do hear of several people who go into labour naturally before or on induction date. My midwife said someone can not have a sweep due to cervix and still give birth the next day if that's how their body works!

I'm still here despite good sweeps, still got feels and waiting! Had to go in for monitoring last night due to reduced movements. Baby was fine but still couldn't feel him, so they gave me another sweep and he moved loads then. I was the only person on the ward. Since then I've had more bloody show and cramps and she said my cervix is still very favourable... baby obviously isnt so keen to leave haha! She was quite rough so I'm not surprised so much old blood has come out!

FourPlasticRings · 17/10/2020 20:31

@NWnature sorry to hear that baby's head isn't engaged. Might be worth a private scan for position just in case?

NWnature · 17/10/2020 22:08

Thanks guys . @LexiM I’m sure it’s going to happen soon ! Sorry she was rough arghh

@FourPlasticRings ah interesting - what do you think they could be breech? They seem to be satisfied baby is head down but just won’t drop. Am up for anything- what do you reck the scan could suggest ? Help me to know if I need to do some specific spinning babies moves?x

NWnature · 17/10/2020 22:10

Thanks @Treacle81 you are so right! Need to keep positive but it’s so hard to not feel like my body is disappointing me and also feel like I’m letting friends and family down even though I know it’s totally irrational.

It’s hard to know how much to keep your nerve with the positive birth company stuff and refuse induction or go with the midwife advice. Such a dilemma! I’ve had such an easy pregnancy I feel like I should let nature take its course but then I feel worried that my body doesn’t seem to making any moves or progress

Treacle81 · 18/10/2020 08:57

Hopefully we will have more babies real soon ❤️ just had to share my news. After 4 days of constant exhausting cluster feeding my little Cameron slept just over 5 hours there!!! V happy mummy 😊xx

FourPlasticRings · 18/10/2020 09:07

Whoop, hurrah for Cameron!

@NWnature I do always have a bit of anxiety around undiagnosed breech- it does happen, unfortunately. Then again, is this one your first (I feel like you've said you have an older DC)? First timers engage fairly early on, but subsequent pregnancies tend to engage much later- some don't even engage until labour starts.

NWnature · 18/10/2020 10:50

@FourPlasticRings no it’s my first eeeek! Doesn’t sound good ! I’m trying some upside down inversions today and another walk. Every little helps

FourPlasticRings · 18/10/2020 11:14

@NWnature I'm one of life's worriers so don't let me rub off on you. When you're done with the whole pregnancy thing, there's a book called, 'This is going to hurt' by an ex OBGYN in the NHS and it does make you aware that these things do sometimes happen (and that midwives vary widely in competence). If you've got one midwife who is making a consistent mistake it's easy to see how breech presentation might be missed. Personally, I wouldn't be going in for induction unless baby was engaged and confirmed head down but I would say go with your gut. If it feels like everything is OK, it probably is. Hopefully everything gets a wriggle on today!

NWnature · 18/10/2020 12:37

@FourPlasticRings yeah that makes total sense as worst case scenario would be a long induction , loads of intervention , pushing, to no avail and then EMCS and trying to recover from both op and labour! I’ll def ask for several opinions on position tomorrow I think 👌 thank you x

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 18/10/2020 17:36

Hi all, sorry been absent from here. I have updated the fb group but I don't think I did here. Had a baby girl Rosie on 9th! I was 39+4 and was very last minute unexpectedly induced due to her movements changing and me having to go in twice for monitoring in less than 24 hours. They said she's best out than in at that stage. I did question if i had done the right thing agreeing to induction but since having her I've had chance to look at all my notes and when I was being monitored while having the pessaries there were times they were concerned about movements then too and they were formally noted. So I feel I did the right thing. I won't lie it wasn't at all what I wanted. I was low risk the whole pregnancy so was down for a water birth in midwife led unit. I think the hardest part for me was the process on the weds lunch and I didn't have her until fri night. I was without Dh due to covid from weds aft until fri morn when I finally was put on the drip. It was also a lot of stop start contractions and pain. To be honest though mainly from my spd. (On a side note my spd went immediately once waters were broken 🙌) so I think anyone considering, just think you could be in there a while on your own and to pace yourself for that. I didn't cope well alone. Anyway she's here and I'm so happu, it did take me a few days to get over how I felt the experience wasn't how I wanted it but after digesting and talking it though with my mum and friends and dp I feel much better now.

Who is still waiting to give birth? Hope you're all ok xx

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 18/10/2020 17:39

So from my experience I would say anyone who is considering induction when it's not necessary I personally knowing what I went though would hold off as long as poss x

EdininiaMonsoon · 18/10/2020 17:45

Hi, I've been following this thread since the first in January. I always meant to post, but I just found it a great comfort keeping up with everyone else's posts. It's been so good to have people to relate to all the way through, from the awful nausea at the beginning to those impatient last few weeks.

I had my little girl at 5am on the 10th. She was born in the car on the way to hospital after only an hour of regular contractions, and we were then picked up by an ambulance. As it was my first, I was expecting a slow, relaxed water birth, but the reality was far more dramatic!

I'd love to join your Facebook group if you'll have me. I'll send you a message @BntTowers.

NWnature · 18/10/2020 18:22

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy congratulations on little Rosie! Thanks for sharing your story as so helpful for me now I’m nearing the end of overdue and wondering what to do. I’m so sorry it didn’t go to plan and you were away from DH so long.

@EdininiaMonsoon wow what a story!!!!! For your first as well! Cripes!!! You did amazingly.

blankiesandunicorns · 18/10/2020 20:02

Haven't posted in a while but been watching in the background to see how everyone's getting on. Been so busy since baby was born on the 9th and to be honest the birth traumatised me to a point where sometimes I don't want a reminder of it, but it's getting easier the longer my baby is here. I felt like I would never recover from the c section but it's getting easier everyday now.

Good luck to those still waiting, once baby is here the waiting seems like a lifetime ago! Hope everyone is doing ok.

Zaalfruit · 19/10/2020 07:46

@EdininiaMonsoon omg !! Wow what a birth story. You are super strong and congratulations on the birth of your baby. How are you feeling now? What have you named your baby girl .
I know it’s so strange we all go through the same motions been pregnant the sickness , the nesting , the waiting for baby .

Viletta · 19/10/2020 10:05

@NWnature home birth midwives had a tiny scanner to see position I wonder if you can ask for this. On the other hand if they are confident they are head down I'd trust them. Maybe discuss pros and cons of induction vs expectant management and decide till when you are comfortable waiting. I gave birth on week 41+3 and happy the labour started naturally. I had to have augmentation with oxytocin in the final hour as my pushing contractions were not strong enough due to my being tiered. There are several people in my NCT group who were induced but gave birth without epidural or instrumental assistance. You can't know in advance how the labour would go but try to stay positive, calm and open minded. At some point the doc told me, let's put caterer in as I had full bladder, oxytocin drip, episiotomy and ventous to get the baby out as I have been pushing for 3h with little progress. I replied let's do these steps one at a time and see. He was happy with that and although we had to do all the steps up to episiotomy (I would have torn massively if not), they didn't have to use ventous! Overall my birth experience was a very positive one I though midwives and doc were brilliant and we found right balance between my wishes and their recommendations. Someone else would have been happy with ventous and getting baby out ASAP but I preferred waiting for a couple more hours and had energy for that. It's all individual and a lot of decisions will be taken there and then. Good luck! You'll nail it!

NWnature · 19/10/2020 11:12

Thanks @Viletta so helpful. Really really trying to hold my nerve and keep the hypnobirthing mindset - I thought I had it down but it’s really testing as the clock counts down😬
Hoping for a positive appointment today and you are totally right need to keep my head in the game.
Hope you and the little one are doing well x

Viletta · 19/10/2020 12:10

@NWnature you've done your research and will be prepared to any decision making. Take one step at a time when things start, don't think about the next stage just concentrate on getting through and resting between. Immediately after he was born it was such a relief mentally and physically that I though hm it wasn't that bad. However in the moment it was overwhelming not only the pain but everything annoyed me so much and just being in a state of extreme discomfort. I didn't care much about seeing my baby at this point I just wanted this to be over. You'll ace it!

NWnature · 19/10/2020 18:12

Sweep was successful!!!! Apparently cervix is very soft and she managed to stretch to 3cm 😊 baby is a little bit lower now 3/5 but there is a bubble of water in front of their head or something so she was a bit nervous and had two other midwives check the babies position. Bit paranoid but I think it must be head down but something weird going on and not engaged properly. Anyway feeling way wayyyy more positive!!!! Booked in for another sweep on Wednesday and then induction on Friday if needed.
