Will they give you extra scans?

mummabubs · 20/09/2020 21:15

@GrandTheftWalrus I'm also similar, stopped testing as soon as I got a positive test both times as I figure doing lots more won't change the outcome but will affect my bank balance! I doubt I'll have any extra scans or if I do then not for a while - due to covid everything in my health board is done over the phone in the first trimester and I don't even have my booking appointment via phone until I'm 10 weeks pregnant. Last time I ended up having lots of extra scans in the third trimester so we'll wait and see. Will you be offered any extra scans this time? Fingers crossed we both have smooth journeys. I was initially a little worried about the larger age gap as I'd always assumed we'd have 18-24 months between them but I'm starting to see the positives of DS being that little bit older now. 😊

GrandTheftWalrus · 20/09/2020 21:20

I don't think so. I only found out as I went for an early scan so dh could come as he wasn't allowed to come to the nhs one. Unfortunately I then had to go through all the treatment etc on my own.

I think with dd I just knew it would be okay.

I had tried for 6 years with my ex and not even a positive test. First month my dh moved in I fell pregnant Grin

I hope I'm not wrong but I have a feeling this one will be okay as well

mummabubs · 21/09/2020 21:04

Fingers crossed @GrandTheftWalrus 😊

Anyone else boarding the nausea train? It's definitely getting worse each day and I'm now at the point where I need to nibble on something every couple of hours to keep it at bay. Only 6+3 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm trying to remain calm but once it started when I was pregnant with DS I was then sick everyday the whole way through. 😬 Just trying to tell myself every pregnancy is different!

Hey all! I had my private early scan last night. It went well, we saw a heartbeat and everything is as it should be!

The only weird thing is that the sonographer said I am actually only 5.5 weeks, not nearly 7! The baby was 2.5mm and they were all amazed to pick it up on the scan so early (and a heartbeat!)

So I’m super happy, just wish I was a bit further along. It seems like such a long wait for 12 weeks!

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 05:30

Here’s the pic, not that you can see much!

Hello, I just tested positive yesterday so only a little over 4 weeks and est due date is 31st May 2020. First baby and apart from feeling a bit bloat I just dont FEEL pregnant yet!

Rascalia86 · 22/09/2020 07:17

@Cafeaulait27
Omg! Amazing to see, no matter how small! I have mine a week tomorrow. Theoretically I should be 8 weeks, but I know I ovulate about 6 weeks ago so wonder if the time difference is due to ovulation time?

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 08:23

@Rascalia86 ah good luck for your scan! I’m so glad that I did it. It’s well worth it especially if you’ll be further along than me.

I was really happy to just see that the baby is developing and it’s not ectopic. I also had no idea that you get a huge cyst in there when pregnant, which apparently keeps everything stable! When she showed me it in the scan I thought she was going to say something terrible!

According to the 5.5 weeks i was given yesterday, that means I only ovulated about 5 Days before my period was due. My periods are always every 30 days. Does that sound plausible?

Thanks! Xx

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 08:26

@TheDaydreamBelievers congratulations! Don’t worry if you don’t feel pregnant, I don’t most of the time. I don’t have any sickness and any symptoms I do have I’m not sure if I’m just reading into normal things that I wouldn’t usually notice.

I saw a heartbeat on my early scan yesterday so it was great to have a bit of peace of mind.

Moandy · 22/09/2020 08:26

@Cafeaulait27 I'm going through the same thing. Supposed to be 7 weeks by lmp (my dates 6 1/2) and measuring 5 weeks 5 days which means I would've tested positive at 7dpo which is basically impossible. I've also had pink discharge. Tbh I'm worrying.

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 08:36

@Moandy it is worrying isn’t it? Have you had the scan recently?

The Sonographer I had didn’t seem worried at all, and said it was due to my pcos that I probably ovulated late. I did tell her that my period was always on time, every 30 days (I’m on metformin which helped loads) but she said it can still happen and seemed confident about it. I’m trying to cling to what she said and not worry, but is it possible to ovulate so late?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 22/09/2020 08:45

Thanks @Cafeaulait27 that is reassuring! Must have been AMAZING to hear a heartbeat. My scan is booked for 03/11. Hoping everything goes smoothly till then!

Moandy · 22/09/2020 08:46

@Cafeaulait27 I had my scan yesterday. It's defintely possible to ovulate later and I'm sure even those with the most regular cycles have an off one!

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 08:51

Actually just looking at my sums again and think 5.5 sounds about right... can you guys let me know what you think of the below?:

Last period started 2nd August
The missed period was due 31st August

So if I’m 5 and a half weeks, that means i ovulated around the 14th. I think that sounds plausible?

So I’m not sure why the NHS calculator came back with an extra week added on? What’s that about? So confusing!!

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 09:15

I’m getting so confused, I just did another calculator and it said I’m 7 weeks, with the ovulation day on the same day I Calculated and got 5 weeks.

Is it because the online calculators include the weeks before conception as well?

Did the sonographer just count from conception instead, is that the difference?

So for example at the dating scan, will they just count the weeks from conception? I’m so lost ☹️

Moandy · 22/09/2020 09:20

Pregnancy is counted before conception. At ovulation you are technically 2 weeks pregnant. That's why at date of missed period you are 4 weeks pregnant. So for me lmp 6/08/20 but ovulated on 23/08/20 (2 weeks pregnant) and now on the 22/09/20 I should be 6 weeks 2 days. Does that make sense?

Moandy · 22/09/2020 09:22

@Cafeaulait27 if you ovulated on the 14th August you would be 7 weeks 4 days.

Moandy · 22/09/2020 09:23

But without using opks and temp charting ovulation day is really hard to pinpoint. Even then it's not perfect.

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 09:24

@Moandy yeah I thought so, thanks! How am I 5 and a half weeks?!

So when she said how many weeks I am, that included my last period before conception?

I feel a little worried sorry to flap ☹️

Moandy · 22/09/2020 09:27

She would've used the crown rump length of the embryo to determine the weeks you are. This is why I'm so confused too. My dates don't match either. I'm guessing you must've ovulated a couple of weeks late. When was your first positive?

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 09:34

@Moandy yeah, maybe I should email them and ask for more details? I did pay £80! And it’s weird because the report says 7 weeks (based on LMP) but then the notes say 5+ based on the measurement. I hope it’s nothing to worry about? ☹️

I tested on 3rd sept and got a really faint line, then tested again on the 8th and got a strong line. So maybe it makes sense that i ovulated late?

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 09:36

What I’m also finding odd is that my pregnancy+ app shows how the baby looks each week, and appears to show conception happening in week one?!

Moandy · 22/09/2020 09:38

@Cafeaulait27 I think you would've had to ovulate around whne you thought because you have to be at least 3 weeks to test positive? It's all so confusing. Did you go to window to the womb? These are my report details. I literally don't know wtf is going on.

Cafeaulait27 · 22/09/2020 09:47

@Moandy yes I did! I might email them now.

I wish I had my report with me now but it’s at home (I’m at work) but I’m sure at the very top it said 7 weeks, and then where yours says 5 weeks in the GA bit mine said Out if Range??? Which they explained to me is because it was too early. But then in the notes at the bottom it said 5+ weeks??? This is very confusing and not consistent ☹️
