Just got back from the hospital, the lower tummy pain has gone very uncomfortable. It didn't feel right.
Turns out I have a UTI, which is why I've been having the lower back pain and tummy pain.
I'm exhausted.

justanothermamma · 19/09/2020 00:18

@HerondaleDucks Oh no! That sounds horrendous, what have they given you for it? You poor thing! X

BettyBotter1 · 19/09/2020 05:03

@Zaalfruit congratulations on finishing work, I hope you got through it all and can relax now
@herondaleducks oh no! That would explain it. I hope it clears up quickly, last thing you need to be suffering

BettyBotter1 · 19/09/2020 05:16

@MummyBearBoo I hope your mum gets better soon. Exciting you have a date, the end is in sight.
Really sorry for those in lockdown areas and I hope if there is a nationwide two weeks it doesnt stop us seeing family face to face or force ppl coming into the country from safer countries into lockdown else I will be giving birth alone.
@charlibalf sorry to hear you're struggling so badly with the spd. Sounds horrendous. When is your due date?

@otterbaby can't believe your work are trying to do that to you, I hope they react swiftly to your email
I think my moses basket matress is described as waterproof. Folded muslin sounds like a good idea regardless as so easy to change. I had my cloth nappy delivery and the lady told me I should be using cooled, boiled water to clean baby... is that ott? Would be a right pain.

BettyBotter1 · 19/09/2020 05:17

Sorry one more! @justanothermamma good luck with your offer!!

Treaclepie19 · 19/09/2020 06:52

@Justanothermamma this is what I'm confused over. I'm sure that waterproof covers didn't used to be recommended. Not sure what to do really 😩

Glad they've checked you over @herondaleDucks

They do recommend cooled boiled water @BettyBotter1. We had to use sterile water to clean ds when he was in NICU but as soon as he moved out of there they just said to use normal water.

Morning girls

@MummyBearBoo hope your mum gets better soon.
@HerondaleDucks ouch! Glad you get seen and hopefully it clears up asap.
@BettyBotter1 do you mean specifically for cleaning babies bum? We will be using water wipes. We did an online antenatal course and the midwife told us not to bother with water and cotton wool. It's too much faff and doesnt clean newborn poo well. She said just take water wipes to hospital. My concern with them is that they probably arent biodegradable though? I keep meaning to investigate other brands. My friend has been using re-usuable nappies on her 5 month old (and loves them by the way!) And she uses water wipes.

@Treaclepie19 @mamamemmmer our online antenatal class thoroughly covered SIDS and safe sleeping. The midwife said to follow the current lullaby trust guidelines. I imagine they frequently change things as my sister was told different about sleeping bags years ago.
I think the issue with not using a waterproof protector is that bacteria can build up in the mattress after cleaning up any accidents. It sounds like people have managed to buy ones that arent sweaty and clammy fabrics. I'll try and attach a photo from their guide...sorry you may have to zoom in. Or if not just google lullaby trust waterproof mattress and I think it will show you the current advice.
Unsure if that means you need one for the pram too? I had even considered that! So much to think about when I thought everything was organised!

Treaclepie19 · 19/09/2020 07:13

@Buzz22 I actually have one for the pram and cotbed. Just the overnight one I'm worried about. I'll have to buy some today and try to get over it all.

OP posts:
Buzz22 · 19/09/2020 07:13

That doesnt look very clear to read sorry. I'll try and post again zoomed in on the bit about waterproof covers. Hopefully it's more readable. If not it's called the 'safe sleep for babies fact sheet 5'

Treaclepie19 · 19/09/2020 07:20

@Buzz22 I think that's whats confused me. It says the mattress should have a waterproof layer, not that you should put a waterproof cover on.

The hardest bit is going to be finding one to fit the chicco baby hug we have for downstairs.

OP posts:
Buzz22 · 19/09/2020 07:30

@Treaclepie19 I know it's not very clear! We have kindly been give a 6 month old Chicco next to me crib from a friend. We have ordered a new mattress for it. So I'm assuming we put a waterproof cover on the new foam mattress with a sheet on top of that?
So with the pram, I would also need a waterproof cover with a sheet fitted on top?

BntTowers · 19/09/2020 07:31

@Buzz22 I have a sample of Pura baby wipes which claim to be plastic free and biodigradable which I am taking to hospital as when at home I'm going to use cheeky wipes. I think they still have a free sample available on the website.

BntTowers · 19/09/2020 07:42

I should add that I've not used them yet or opened the packet as I didn't want to risk them drying out before baby got here so I have no idea if they are actually any good!

Treaclepie19 · 19/09/2020 07:56

Thats how I'm taking it @Buzz22. Waterproof cover and then sheet.

The chicco mattress already has a washable cover on but it does say online its not waterproof so I guess another one on top is best. Ugh I hate making decisions! I'm thinking no mattress is breathable really so a cover won't make it any less safe but I can't get past what I've read about it 🙈 Like you say though, the risk from it being dirty and not cleaned properly is just as worrying.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 19/09/2020 08:47

@HerondaleDucks hope you start to feel better soon

@Treaclepie19 I've just got on with it and bought one online from Asda as per @BntTowers recommendation. It says later on on the site that waterproof mattress protectors are fine if it's not already built into the mattress. Now I'll need to look into a pram one. Sorry everyone for bringing this up! Or maybe actually not sorry as it seems like me a few of us had no idea!! The thing is i read the lullaby site a few months back when ordering the cot mattress so must've just completely missed it. X

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 19/09/2020 08:49

And while I was on Asda website I also bought this! I'm sure dp will think it's ridiculous but I love it!

Brill thanks for that @AutumnBabyWinterMummy! No I'm glad you did because I'd not realised it had changed.
I've ordered some from amazon, the little green sheep company.

Thats so cute. I got this the other day.

@Treaclepie19 this is it in writing about mattress protectors being ok and not just built in to the mattress.

Aw love your outfit so cute!! X

Amazing, thanks so much Smile
Just what I needed to read.

I couldn't resist 🙈 I'd told myself I wouldn't get caught up buying silly stereotypical outfits 😳

MummyBearBoo · 19/09/2020 09:40

Thanks @Buzz22 and @BettyBotter1 -my parents we're planning to come up to look after DD for my induction but it depends if my mum is better she says her cough isn't as bad now she's had it for about a week now and my dad seems ok so far!

DH is allowed in from when I'm in established labour so doesn't just have to wait til the later stages but if I don't go into spontaneous labour I'll be on my own from the beginning of the induction until labour starts!! Xx

Quiffy · 19/09/2020 09:41

@Treacle81 that dress was gorgeous! Hope you had a fab time

@otterbaby that's awful, no wonder you're stressed.

I think I have a waterproof mattress thing? It doesn't feel waterproof but it says it is. I just got the Snuzpod branded one in a bundle and then bought a spare 💁‍♀️ it's all so confusing

@HerondaleDucks ouch :( hope you feel better soon

Love the Halloween outfits. My mum has bought a few and I've got a little fox costume with ears and tail for him 🦊

My hospital just had a breakout of covid and a ward closed which is worrying. At the moment for my induction I'm to go in alone and allowed one 30 min visit a day until established labour. Then I think I can have two birthing partners who need to leave 1 hour after birth then it's back to 30 min visits for one named person. I get the feeling the visits and second birth partner will be taken away though. I'm trying to think of the birth as a means to getting baby and getting him home to family otherwise it would cause a breakdown. My mum is coming to stay with us from next Friday to help as dh can't drive and help us out. She's got a plan in ready if a travel ban gets put in place so she can drop everything and get here before it's in effect to join our household instead. It's absolutely crazy ass times. Just want him here and home so we can relax and enjoy it!

Treacle81 · 19/09/2020 10:56

Morning girls, thanks for all your kind compliments, means a lot 😊. @HerondaleDuck now you know what the problem was, hope you get rid of it quickly! I had fab lunch with girls, restaurant was practically empty and felt v safe, then met my son afterwards which was great. Came home and got the worst indigestion and trapped wind, made me think I was going to throw up! Lasted the full night till like 2am, was awful. Dunno if it was the food, fizzy juice or just another stage. Still loaded with damn cold so hopefully that shifts soon! With regards to the waterproof cover, same as @Quiffy, got in snuzpod bundle and I too didn't think looked waterproof lol. Oh girls, my friend had baby yesterday, little Luka, 8 pounds 5 with just gas and air and she is tiny. If she can do it, we can!!! xx

HerondaleDucks · 19/09/2020 16:50

Thanks for all the love ladies.
They have given me 5 days of antibiotics. But I feel super rough. So I clearly had been misinterpreting the signs for a little while.
On the plus side I manage to harvest another full syringe of colostrum today.
It was quite surreal being in the labour ward last night, I heard at least 3 different women giving birth.
My DH had to wait in the car the whole time I was there though, so was a bit lonely for both of us and scary because we didn't really know what was going on.

I've got waterproof mattress covers for the pram, moses basket and cot, with cotton sheets to go over the top.
I've also got a mix of sleep bags, gro bags and blankets depending on how big he is and what's appropriate. I think the rule with sleep bags is they must not be loose around the shoulders or they could slip down.

CharlieBalf · 19/09/2020 17:51

Sorry its been rough @HerondaleDucks especially the not knowing.

As far as sleeping, I have a couple of sleeping bags and a support thta helps prevent flat head which I'll only use for naps. For the first few weeks I think I'll swaddle then when it gets colder I might move onto the sleep g bags... Baby will be a big bigger by then too so less chance of slipping through the neck hole.

My mother, bless her, brought over all her old cot bumpers, bla kets, duvets and such. How times have changed 😂

BettyBotter1 · 19/09/2020 17:56

@charliebalf aw her heart is in the right place! My in-laws are amazed that the matresses these days don't have holes in them and that the advice is to put babies on their backs to sleep.
