Our hospital has just updated their policy. You are allowed the same birth partner in the assessment unit or triage that will be at the birth. But then still says a 1 hour visiting slot in a 24 hour period for antenatal and postnatal wards.
I guess this works well if you go straight from triage or assessment to labour. Then partner has to leave after birth when you get moved to post natal. You arent allowed to choose the hour time slot for visiting. Its dependent on bed number.
Still not great if you are being induced as you could be there days on antenatal ward with only 1 visitor once a day.

Seems to vary so much hospital to hospital.

justanothermamma · 18/09/2020 19:08

@MrsK89 I think I'm worried about induction because I had such a quick and simple natural birth with DD last time. We'll just have to see!

No heartburn this pregnancy for me, must be having a bald baby 😂!

Someone offered full asking on the house so we've made a counter offer, just waiting to hear now.

Baby has dropped right down, even more than she was and I have already been told I'm fully engaged, had loads of twinges today and I feel so poorly like last time.. time will tell I suppose.

@Buzz22 Agents were strict here for a while, but now we can view things which is great. We missed out on viewing some lovely places because we have a house to sell. Ours isn't on Rightmove yet still which is annoying, hopefully by Monday!

@Zaalfruit Sex and walks!

@MsSian93 Good luck lovely!!!

@saiditbetterthanme Welcome to the club lovely, hope you're feeling okay?

@Treaclepie19 @Buzz22 We're in a really low risk area and we aren't allowed any visits whatsoever after birth, it's horrendous. Still not allowed a birth partner until 4cm dilated and they have to leave an hour after birth. I keep crying stressing about it.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 18/09/2020 19:10

I've just been told my area is on local lockdown again 🤦‍♀️ 2nd time now. We only came off it about 2 weeks ago and it starts up again next Tuesday. So no chance they will be relaxing my hospital rules.

On another subject I was reading the lullaby trust website today as we have been given a mokee wool nest and somehow I'd totally missed that for the cot we have we need a totally waterproof mattress protector, then when I've tried to find one for example the silent night brand it says on the front for age 12m plus. So I'm confused. Does anyone know if we need one for mattresses from birth? X

bluemoon2468 · 18/09/2020 19:33

@otterbaby your work are wrong! I was furloughed during my qualifying weeks too and the government is pretty clear that your mat pay should be based on your regular salary, not your furlough pay!

Treaclepie19 · 18/09/2020 19:45

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I won't be using one because there isn't one for the chicco next2me I don't think.
Didn't use one with ds until he got older. Just a muslin and then sheets.

otterbaby · 18/09/2020 19:51

@justanothermamma my hospital has the exact same rules. That's causing me the most anxiety, even more so than giving birth 😖

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I've read that you do definitely need waterproof mattress protectors from birth - we have one for both the Moses basket and the Next2Me. You can normally search with the dimensions on amazon and they have quite a selection!

@bluemoon2468 I thought so! I have sent them a very sassy email quoting both HMRC and ACAS so I'm sure they're scrambling to sort themselves out 😒

MrsK89 · 18/09/2020 19:54

I'm not impressed. Thought I'd have a nice bath tonight, filled it, got in and the water doesn't even touch my belly 😑

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 18/09/2020 20:01

@otterbaby
Ok I think I'll get one then. Glad I looked again at the website. The mokee Moses we have has one, I don't have one for the pram mattress but surely I'm thinking that would be ok? I'm getting myself a bit fedup now with thinking about it! Thought I was sorted 🤦‍♀️

@Treaclepie19 I'm sure when I was looking they do them for the next to me maybe not the actual brand but can buy some to fit.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 18/09/2020 20:03

@MrsK89 aww 😂 poor you!! I have a bath every night and usually they are so relaxing but recently I can't stay in there for longer than only a little while because I'm laying backwards I start feeling short of breath so I have to sit bolt upright for most of it now 😂

Treaclepie19 · 18/09/2020 20:03

Yeah you're right, there are some the right dimensions. I'll have to sort it 😴
It makes me feel a bit uncomfortable though because I know how sweaty waterproof protectors make me and surely baby will be the same. Hey ho.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 18/09/2020 20:06

@Treaclepie19 that's what I was thinking. Like surely from an overheating point of view wouldn't it make it less safe? I'm a bit fedup I've come across this today really. I did see some nice ones from places like John Lewis that say are totally breathable and have towelling across the top so it wouldn't be like a horrible waterproof crinkly thing.

MummyBearBoo · 18/09/2020 20:09

Sorry been AWOL ladies had a lot going on DD started school, my mum s got Coronavirus but seems to be ok so far coping at home!
So my inductions is booked for 2 weeks on Monday baby weighed 5lb 9oz - 2 weeks ago almost and on 50th centile got no more scans now unless something happens -apparently she's engaged so I constantly need the loo and walking up and down stairs with SPD is horrible -just got to have checkup with cardiology before I'm all ready!!xx

BntTowers · 18/09/2020 20:14

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I got some from Asda that are Terry towelling on top and a waterproof bottom, they seem to be ok, not crinkly.

I've had a bit of a meh day. I seem to have a day of being ok energy wise then I'm exhausted the next, but I did manage to get some.washing done and some breakfast muffins baked so that's a win.

I've got a feeling our hospital restrictions are going to go stricter again as cases are rapidly on the rise... I past 4 groups of teens on my walk tonight which were well over the 6 people max, people just don't take things seriously.

otterbaby · 18/09/2020 20:19

@Treaclepie19 the one I got for the Next2Me is from Little Green Sheep and it's sort of like a thin cotton towel, no plastic or anything. Think it was about £15 and it fits it perfectly 🙂

Treaclepie19 · 18/09/2020 20:30

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy looking at it properly I think the next2me actually has a waterproof layer anyway.
I'll look at it properly tomorrow. I can't process anymore tonight 😭😴

Hi ladies, struggling today, just can't seem to get comfortable. Feel all cramped and full when sitting down but SPD is making it difficult to move around. I literally nearly cried getting out of the bath today. How am I going give birth if I can't even walk up the stairs without a rest?

Congratulations @MrsD1990 on baby boy!

My hubby has booked an Indian for our wedding anniversary on the 28th... I think he's been reading 😂

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 18/09/2020 20:45

@BntTowers oh thanks I'll take a look.

@Treaclepie19 yes me too I'll think about it tomo, too tired now. So funny how it takes so little to phase me these days 😂🙈

@CharlieBalf ah I'm with you on the spd, I nearly cry in bed a few times a night with it

LexiM · 18/09/2020 20:46

@justanothermamma I've had no heartburn either and our baby definitely has a full head of hair, I saw it on the scan last week! Glad you had an offer on the house, that is promising for you. Fingers crossed on the counter offer too.

Sorry to those of you in lockdown areas, it really is bad timing. I hope things dont get more strict for you all. I am just hoping nothing changes down here, we seem to be in a lower risk area at the moment but you never know right now.

I also look forward to a bath but the water doesnt come up high enough to love them anymore! I keep filling it too much and not leaving enough space for me Haha

Had another productive day with DH off work, sorted all of the downstairs now ready for baby. All the "stuff" is upstairs but it's all clean and has space now for when we bring things downstairs. We also watched a film and went on a walk. I was so out of breath on the walk!

Baby is moving loads right now, hope he isn't moving from his head down position. Have felt lots of limbs /bum pushing out my sides today.

blankiesandunicorns · 18/09/2020 20:48

@LexiM lots of movement here too, I was wondering whether increased movements meant anything because she has been kicking like mad last 2 days!

MrsK89 · 18/09/2020 20:53

Haha @AutumnBabyWinterMummy I ended up sitting up through most of the bath as heartburn started up again so bath time was a total fail tonight. I'll try again when baby is here haha.
This is the 1st pregnancy that I've had such bad heartburn and my other 3 came out with head full of hair so I don't think that's much of an indication

justanothermamma · 18/09/2020 21:34

@otterbaby Same here, I'm more stressed about hospital restrictions than I am about the actual birth. It shouldn't be like this.

Why is everyone going waterproof? I'm confused!

@LexiM I hope they accept our offer, even if we still have the minor issue of having to sell ours! I can't believe how strict our hospital is here considering the rate last week was 3 cases per 100,000 at the moment! Miles off some of these lockdown areas.

otterbaby · 18/09/2020 21:56

@justanothermamma I don't actually know why! The lullaby trust published some guidelines that say to help prevent SIDS, the bed should be firm, flat and waterproof. Obviously helpful if there's a nappy leak or something but no idea otherwise...

Treaclepie19 · 18/09/2020 22:02

I get it really because if they're sick then the mattress is gonna be really hard to clean safely. With ds1 though we just put a muslin under his head folded. Breathable and stopped sick problems until he got older.
I think im going to just have to get a protector and try not to worry though.

OP posts:
justanothermamma · 18/09/2020 23:00

@otterbaby Gosh, I thought it would cause overheating if anything! When I had DD they were totally against sleeping bags and now they're all for them, it's hard to keep up!
