Bellie · 15/10/2004 13:06

Hi all - can I add myself??

Bellie (age 31) due 24 October first pregnancy.

Does howling at the rain clouds last night count as I couldn't actually see the moon.....?

pupuce · 15/10/2004 15:39

Turtle don't forget HARMAN!!!! EDD - 22/10 DD (6), DS (4), DD (3)....Harman needs all the encouragement possible she has just been sent home after 12 hours of what they now call "Not in labour"... as you can well imagine she is bitterly disappointed and knackered of course.

pupuce · 15/10/2004 15:42

sent home from hospital of course.... I am now off to get some sleep before it all starts again

beansprout · 15/10/2004 16:00

Bah - waste of time for me today. Waited nearly 2 hours to be given incorrect information both by the Dr I saw today AND to be told that the info the midwife had given me on Monday was ALSO incorrect. In short, I don't have to be induced on Weds and I don't have to go to any of the hospitals I was told about on Monday. I do have to go back to my original hospital on Tuesday to discuss induction but as I think I now have another week (am now 40+6) I'm confident I'll just go into labour naturally and be able to be at the birth centre as orginally planned. Induction (I hope) is at least another 10 days off.

Have been on a wild moose chase.... but feeling relieved I don't have to be induced on Wednesday. I hope that just feeling more relaxed will help things along a bit.

Bloody medics!! Grrrr!!
Thanks for doing the admin Turtle.
Harman - that sounds tiring - hope you are ok.
Where's Bibi?!

Bellie · 15/10/2004 16:09

Oh Beansprout how frustrating - but at least you have some more time now and as you say may well go into labour naturally which is what you want.

Sometimes it just looks like the NHS don't know what the other parts are doing and we are made to trapse around for no reason other than incompetence.

beansprout · 15/10/2004 16:22

Absolutely spot on Bellie - couldn't agree more. I know not everything is brilliantly resourced but some things really could be avoided. Anyway, I raise my glass of pineapple juice to you all!!

nailpolish · 15/10/2004 17:07

beansprout you poor thing.

everything is crossed that no-one has to go into induction. all deliveries have been fine up to now and that will not change!

i was fed up again today so did my hair, put on some slap and my fave perfume and walked up and down the high st today. all i bought was a pair of socks for dd, but i got a sore pair of legs for free!!!

i think she wondered what was happening, me dragging her all over the town.

but nothing yet for me, despite all the walking.

still, im not due til tomorrow so i cant complain.

have a nice evening everyone!

xxxxxxx

Distracted · 15/10/2004 17:43

Beansprout glad you've got it sorted now, really annoying to have to go through that though.

Poor Harman too, hope she manages to get some rest before it all starts up again.

I've just remembered that I meant to add some tips for labour...

Most useful things to have I found were a water spray for dh to squirt into my face between contractions - really refreshing. I forgot to take something to tie my hair back with and I was dripping sweat so dh improvised with a hankie! Seems like a little thing, but hair on back of my neck was driving me mad! Labour wards are probably always hot for sake of newborn.

Tips on coping with pain may be partly personal. Last time I was in labour I found the buzzing of the tens machine almost made my contractions worse but still used it for psychological benefit of having a button to press with each contraction. Similarly I didn't find gas & air helped but used it for something to do and to control my breathing. This time, I started thinking same when I put tens machine on but decided to change my attitude! I tried to imagine that the sensation of the tens was massaging away the pain and that worked. Another tip for tens is NOT to turn up the intensity DURING a contraction as for me that did make me feel it was making the contraction worse (as think it was increasing at same time as contraction increasing). You need to turn it up in BETWEEN contractions. Gas & air I did find really helped this time and again might have been partly my attitude.

Psychologically dealing with the pain I used the tips from one of the previous threads on this and really did find the most helpful one was the tip on meeting the pain halfway. Think someone said something like if you run away from the pain it will only follow you but if you meet it halfway it won't get the chance to get so bad (not sure how to word latter half of sentence but hopefully that makes sense). Also thinking that although pain increases for first part of contraction, it is only at it's peak for a tiny amount of time and then can only get better. Other useful thing is that each contraction is one less to go through and is getting you nearer the end.

Also for first timers (and people like me who hadn't experienced second stage before for one reason or another), if you're dreading second stage, the contractions are actually much less painful once you can start to push with them. You also have the satisfaction then of knowing you are near the end and the feeling of how you are really progressing with each contraction and you start feeling the head coming down.

I hope that helps. I've done my usual mega long posting!

geogteach · 15/10/2004 19:31

I am still here, now just have pregnant belly and 2 sick kids to cope with! DS had temperature during the night with discharge from ears so took him to get checked out this morning. Came home called MIL to sit with kids so I could have a rest and DD vomitted her way through 3 sets of her own clothes one of mine and one of MIL's. Just what I need - all this shouting at the moon doesn't seem to have got us far!

Fennel · 15/10/2004 19:53

just popping in to say good luck (especially you overdue ones, my last one dd3 was very overdue, I was stuck practically on my own on the april thread) but also I have to ask why your titles feature Mooses?
my dd1 is moose-obsessed so I always notice your thread titles. please tell?

Toots · 15/10/2004 20:11

Geogteach, that no fair, poor you

Hey the Bean gets a reprieve! Time in for good behaviour! Your play on words - can't remember, brain fog, made me smile Beansprout.

Fennel - history partially relates, someone (who?) said at about four months pg that they didn't look pg, they just looked like a big moose .

dd2 has been grizzling for ages, must go and see to her. So knackered.

beansprout · 15/10/2004 20:16

Fennel - it just goes back to a comment about feeling like a big moose a few months ago and it has become our term (of endearment) for being pregnant. Also, plural has become meece(s) so afraid we are not a good role model for your dd1!

Thanks for the tips Distracted - really good to hear them, I think the one about meeting the pain half way will be esp. useful.

Ok here, feeling much happier now I know that induction isn't looming so can now carry on with being pregnant, which rapidly appears to be becoming my life's work.

I think me, Piglit and Geogteach should go and sit at the back of the class and hang our heads in deeply overdue shame

piglit · 15/10/2004 21:43

Today I have been mostly eating a whole pineapple, a huge curry and drinking raspberry leaf tea. Still nothing and less than 48 jours until induction.

Anyway, sleep well, my fellow mooses.

nailpolish · 15/10/2004 22:03

piglit you are working so hard! if anyone deserves a nice labour its you

beckswith3 · 15/10/2004 23:06

for all those waiting patiently, they'll come one way or another and keep smiling!
my second DS was 14days overdue and arrived naturally at home, 12 hours before induction.
This one is due 27 Oct and I'm going to prepare myself for a late one again just in case. It's wriggling like hell tonight, bless it.
Here's to only waking a few times tonight.

beansprout · 16/10/2004 06:44

Well, it's now our third very-last-weekend together as just a couple.... I've actually been invited to a hen night tonight, but don't mind if I don't!
Am now actually nine and a half months preg, Even I am conceding that those annoying people who say "you still pregnant then?" may actually have a point.
Piglit and Geogteach - everything is crossed for you both my friends.
Toots - I hope today is a better day.
Hi Beckswith3 - I have a wriggler too, am slowly having the cr@p kicked out of me and then they ask "can you feel baby move?". Er... just a bit!

Cadbury · 16/10/2004 06:50

Hi beansprout. Just thought I'd say hello. I'm sure you feel ready to burst but enjoy these precious last moments as a couple. You will never be alone again.

piglit · 16/10/2004 09:38

You are right Beansprout - we are now 9 and a half months pregnant

I have until tmrw night to get things going. I wonder how many pineapples a moose can eat in a day....?

Sending good vibes to everyone.

pupuce · 16/10/2004 10:10

Harman had her baby this morning.... I am sure she'll post her story later.
Good luck to all of you

motherinferior · 16/10/2004 11:48

Just logged on quickly to check how you gurlies are. Best of luck all of you - and thank *88 for the reprieve, Bean.xxxxxxx

Turtle35 · 16/10/2004 11:50

Hurray Harman!! That's fantastic news, you took your time

hope it went smoothly and look forward to all the details.

Bean, very good point about last weekend together as a couple, I had a huge row with my DH this am and he has now gone out shopping. I think he is tired of me feeling sorry for myself in agony constantly and not sleeping is getting the better of me and he can't do a damn thing about it. You know how men can be......

I need to snap out of this mood and go buy a pineapple I think.

Try to relax you overdue meece and the babies will come.

Geogteach poor you dealing with sick little ones - sending big hugs your way and hope they improve quickly for you.

Piglit I am sure DB will come before you need to be induced - good luck though I am waiting with baited breath

nailpolish · 16/10/2004 12:09

due date today and its all quiet

had an hour and a half of contractions every 15-20 mins last night, got really excited, told dh who was asleep and he just grunted and turned over!

watched toy story at 3am to cheer self up when they stopped

oh well!

hurray for harman and i cant wait hear the details.

come on everyone else!

Turtle35 · 16/10/2004 12:26

Oh Nailpolish it wont be long now, as Pupuce pointed out, false labour is a good thing, it gets your endorphins sp going!! Good idea watching Toy Story though. FWIW my DH asked me if I was imagining things when I had false labour pains a couple of nights ago - that's reassuring isn't it

OP posts:
beansprout · 16/10/2004 12:36

Congratulations Harman!! That's fantastic! Hope the new house is ok too - we are all thinking of you.
Piglit and Geogteach - we now go from the back of the class to detention... Everything is crossed here for you P, if labour could be induced by sheer will and moose vibes, we would definitely do it for our lovely Piglit Hang on in there my friend. My midwife suggested pineapple juice is good too, so am guzzling my way through that at the moment.
Hope your house is an illness free zone today Geogteach?

Nailpolish - that must have been disappointing, esp. as it was so on cue. Sounds like your body is at def con one though?

I feel the same today as I have done for the last few weeks. Nothing happening, not a twinge for my efforts, nowt. Think I may pop over now and ask if I can just join the November thread?

beansprout · 16/10/2004 12:38

Oh and Turtle - sorry to hear you are not having a happy domestic time. This lark is not easy. Dp told a friend of ours this morning that all the waiting is getting a bit much - he has been off work all of two days....!!
