Hooray for Nailpolish! Congratulations and well done you. Welcome little Kirstie

huppa · 19/10/2004 16:06

Hi, just to let you know that Connor arrived last Thursday. Only got home today as managed to have a room to myself (remember this is Germany) and decided to make the most of the peace and quiet and get breast feeding established before coming home.
I´ve only had time to skim the thread, so congratulations to all those who have popped and good luck to those still waiting.

pupuce · 19/10/2004 16:39

Well done Nailpolish and Huppa and Georgetech.... now the fun begins

beansprout · 19/10/2004 16:41

Nailpolish - that's fantastic! Was wondering as you hadn't been around for a couple of days - best possible reason!!

Pupuce - head was too low. Doc says this may mean a shorter labour when the time (finally) comes?
MI - here's hoping...!!

motherinferior · 19/10/2004 16:43

Head too low is presumably sticking OUT????

beansprout · 19/10/2004 16:45

That's what I thought?!! I cannot for the life of me work out what that is supposed to look like!! She def said "low" though and the same is written in my notes? Perhaps some medical code for "hah! no way is this one coming out anytime soon"?!

pupuce · 19/10/2004 16:48

Mears is more competent than me... if head is low, that's great. Not sure that is why he can't sweep... I would have thought a posterior cervix (so quite high) might make it difficult.
Well I expect you to have a normal birth now !

beansprout · 19/10/2004 16:52

That's what she seemed to be suggesting... i.e. should be soon and pretty straightforward. Bean is still ROA so should be ok. Back for scans on Thursday, at the weekend and then Monday.

Did have a really charming midwife who wouldn't touch the pot my urine sample was in - made me pick it up, tip the pot, had a go when a drop went on the desk and then made me get up and put it in the bin as she told me "I don't want to touch it!". And that was ALL she said to me!!

Bellie · 19/10/2004 18:15

Congratulations Nailpolish and welcome to Kirstie .

Beansprout - sounds very encouraging and I am sure that something will happen now that you know that you are not being imminently (sp?) induced - I am sure that you will relax and bean will make their appearence naturally.

To all that asked about how my dr knows that I will go overdue - I have still not fully engaged 3/5 and he said that therefore it is unlikely that by Sunday anything significant would happen. Have spent the afternoon eating pinapple and visualising the birth (as per pupuce's) list and going for a hot currey tonight! As I said earlier also seeing homeopath tomorrow so may well have some more ideas then.

pupuce · 19/10/2004 18:34

Bellie - you have time though
First babies are notoriously late - often 41 weeks !
Just imagine your EDD to be 30/10 and you won't be disappointed

beansprout · 19/10/2004 18:59

Well... at least I won't have to tape "Little Britain" tonight!!
Piglit- am thinking of you and hoping it is all going ok.
Dammit I want to join the parenting strand!!!

Toots · 19/10/2004 19:54

Beansprout, could the mw not see that you were a Laaady and had Laaady's wee in your pot?

Head low sounds good. Like I said. A short way to travel, but an incredible journey, sounds like Bean's already at Watford Gap

Turtle35 · 19/10/2004 20:06

Well done Nailpolish and Huppa, it seems everyone's babies are coming finally except poor Bean - hang in there girl if the head is that low than it's just a matter of days I am sure of it

Bellie there is definitely time for DB head to drop, go for a long walk if you can.

I am destined to be last boo hoo. I don't want to join November thread.

Can I stick with the Oct Meece even if my DB is born in November?

beansprout · 19/10/2004 20:27

Turtle - we would come looking for you if you went anywhere else! You are a hardcore October moose - it's in your bones/cervix now... there is no escape!!

Toots - that sounds good as I am just 10 mins from the end of the M1!! Not that Bean is paying me any heed....

If I get any bigger I may have to be reclassified as a yak

Bellie · 20/10/2004 07:56

Hope it happens today beansprout .

Was going to try for a long walk today but it is SO miserable outside - not really feeling that I want to! Still I may well go shopping and isn't it funny how I can walk so much further when shops are involved!

beansprout · 20/10/2004 10:34

Know what you mean Bellie - but to be fair, shops are walking with a point. It's not a great day for strolling in the park... much better off in a nice shop somewhere I reckon. One near a nice coffee 'n' muffin place too so you can keep your much needed energy levels up. I keep reminding myself of all the advice in various books which is to conserve as much energy as possible for labour - don't want to go into it knackered, that's for sure.

Am I allowed to smack the next person who greets me with "haven't you had that baby yet?" and suggests I try raspberry leaf tea?!!
I went through a horrible day of feeling unhappy with Bean for not coming out. Now I am completely happy for him (her) to do what he needs to do... and it's everyone else that can bog off!! Heh heh. A mother's instincts eh?

Bellie · 20/10/2004 10:39

Coffee and muffin always on the agenda!.

I think that you are perfectly entitled to hit the next person to ask you (surely pregnancy brain counts towards diminished responsibility??)
Glad to hear you are more positive today I am sure bean will be with you soon.

beansprout · 20/10/2004 11:17

Oooh yes, diminished responsibility, that's a good one! People expect preg women to be a bit mad anyway I think (they certainly don't seem to assume we have much in the way of brains... grrr).

Hope everyone else is ok today.

motherinferior · 20/10/2004 11:28

Whack 'em all you like, Beanliness. Idiots. There is a thread somewhere on this!

Turtle35 · 20/10/2004 11:41

speaking of whacking.....I could of whacked my DH last night, he had a boozy lunch and then met up with some mates after work for more!!! Would of been in NO shape to take me to hospital if it happened last night let alone be of any use during labour grrr

Bean you def should conserve engergy, I will take a very slow walk to M&S today and the rest of it will be sitting on my arse (bouncy ball) anyway!! watching 24 - I am now addicted!

Just think when little bean arrives it will be that much more special.

Even though my DB will probably end up being born in Nov I really need to stick with the Moose thread as it just wouldn't seem right - God knows I feel like such a Moose these days. I didn't think I could get bigger this last week but my boobs and tummy have grown again!!!

OP posts:
beansprout · 20/10/2004 12:22

Thanks MI - I think whacking should be compulsory at this stage, it's the only language these people understand

Have just had my big outing for the day (to the shop - ooooh). Have a friend coming over for lunch so today doesn't seem too bad. Heat magazine should tide me over until dp gets home. And another day done....

Think you are right Turtle. I'm sure all of this will be forgotten once Bean arrives (which I hear may actually happen at some point!)

Bellie · 20/10/2004 14:06

Just got back from my walk in town and also my visit to the homeopath (which I nearly forgot about - talk about no brain cells ).

For anyone that wants to use homeopathic remedies, she recommended Caulphylum and Pulsatilla as a way of bringing on labour. They are normally used once you have mild contractions or if waters break, but she also said that if you really don't want to be induced they are worth trying without these signs as they may kick start the process. They can also be used if labour slows down at any point.

She also recommended the usual - raspberry leaf, pineapple and sex!

Hope everyone is having a good day - now off to try the other old wifes tale of holding a newborn - one of the girls from my NCT class gave birth last Wed and has invited the rest of the group over to see Thomas!

beckswith3 · 20/10/2004 15:13

only 1 week till due day, am feeling heavy today and this baby wriggles so much in the evening. Have planned to go out tonight and tomorrow night so DH is home alone with the kids..ha ha.
Turtle - you may not be the last just think it could well be me, problem with being last is that everyone keeps announcing their wonderful arrivals and their names. Haven't made up my mind on names and its getting increasingly harder.

Turtle35 · 20/10/2004 15:18

Bellie, I know nothing about homeopothy, can you explain what they are and where you purcahse it?

Am about to make my big move for the day up to M&S - I honestly don't know where the time goes! What am I going to be like when the baby arrives?

My Mom arrives from Canada tomorrow to stay for a month!! Yikes I hope this isn't going to drive me nuts!!

Bean sending you positive moose vibes for tonight

pupuce · 20/10/2004 15:44

I am not a qualified homeopath but I have done some training specifically around homeopathy and childbirth and I frequently use homeopathy for childbirth (most of the births I attend).

  1. I would NOT use caullophyllum to bring on labour personally - I think it is too strong. I would try something else like cimicifuga or aconite but that is also not for everyone. I do agree that Caullophyllum is good if contractions slow down however it doesn't work on everyone and it should not be taken routinely.
  2. Pulsatilla I have never heard of or seen used as an "inducer" it is good if labour slows down or in 2nd stage actually. If you take it and see no change at all after 15 minutes then you would know it is not working for you.
  3. Normally you need the 200 dose which youw on't find everywhere. You can use the 30 dose as well. To buy 200 you can go to www.helios.co.uk - they are very good and quick at delivering.

I think sex is a better bet than pineapple!
