@Pinktruffle I don't think you actually need to sterilise weaning stuff if you start at 6 months but you sort of get into the habit of it and it's hard to give up lol

Kpm7 · 28/08/2020 06:09

Any one bought breast pumps who are using mam bottles.
I really want to express and feed the baby from the bottle so they don’t become go attached. I mean I will just go with the flow but feel clueless xx

excitednerves · 28/08/2020 06:44

For everyone asking about MAM bottles, I used them with DS - great for self sterilising but you can do them however you want, cold water sterilising or in an electric or microwave steriliser. I also used the medela bags which were amazing for all my pumping kit and dummies etc

@jalu47 I’m also feeling clumsy and mis judging gaps sometimes for my bumps to fit through! How are people finding comments on their bumps? I get told I’m small to I’m going to have a huge baby and also some people have started feeling now is the right time to tell me birth horror stories.

jalu47 · 28/08/2020 07:34

@peachypetite I've not had many comments on my bump but we've barely seen anyone!

I've tried to avoid any horror stories and recently bought Siobhan Millers book on hypo birthing. I've only read 4 chapters so far but really enjoying it and have already seen a bit of a shift in my thinking. Would definitely recommend!

peachypetite · 28/08/2020 07:45

I’m feeling a bit pissed off too and wonder if anyone else has experienced this? Saw some family friends last night and one of them mentioned a name which my husband really likes, it happens to be a name that runs in their family too and I just said oh oh likes that name (I’m not too sure) and my sister expressed her obvious dislike for it was actually quite rude about it and said you can’t call the baby that. I’ve kept being asked to give examples of l like, I’ve firmly up until this point not said a single name for this exact reason and now I just fele really annoyed. I said this is exactly why I haven’t wanted to discuss names at all because people can be really rude, but if the baby is presented to you at birth with the name people wouldn’t dream of saying the same thing. I’d never ask pregnant friends if they’d thought of names because it’s none of my business and most people want to keep it secret and I’m getting fed up of people keep asking me.

@peachypetite I wouldn't worry about the stories. Mine was pretty horrible but I'm still having another. Women love to tell their tales because it's such an important moment for them.

chubbyhotchoc · 28/08/2020 07:49

@peachypetite you're very wise. My mum
hates every name I say apart from one which we've decided against now anyway. It's hard enough trying to choose with your partner let alone bringing other people's opinions in

peachypetite · 28/08/2020 08:07

Yeh it just really annoyed me and I know I’m probably being extra sensitive due to the pregnancy hormones but just wish people would stop pressuring me to provide info about names we are thinking of.

I had my 28 week midwife appt on Wednesday, everything is fine with the baby although it did take her about 5 mins to find the heartbeat which scared the life out of me! I spoke to her about not feeling much movement some days and having no real pattern, she said the baby moved when she was touching my belly and I didn't feel a thing! It makes it really hard to know if I should be worried or not about reduced movement because of my anterior placenta. She also said I would be induced on my due day if she wasn't here by then because I'm over 40. I got a call yesterday to say my iron levels were quite low so I need to go on iron tablets now, at least this explains why I'm absolutely shattered all of the time!

excitednerves · 28/08/2020 08:25

@peachypetite the horror stories are the worst! I always cut people off with “oh don’t tell me, I’d rather go in blissfully ignorant, thanks, ha ha”

Kj1010 · 28/08/2020 08:53

@peachypetite yep get u on that I havent even thought of names lol @NaomiB79 I'm the same if baby doesn't come on 13th December they will induce me as I'm over 40 over weight I'm currently sitting in hospital waiting the 2 hours for another blood test that glucose drink omg very very sweet so now just a waiting game lol glad it's done though

excitednerves · 28/08/2020 09:26

@peachypetite I also keep quiet about names. When I had my first, I read a list of Top10 (or 20, or something) names and the one we had picked for our son (Milo) was on it, although I just read through the list and didn’t say anything about it. Cue lots of “what kind of name is that?” comments from my mum, but when we actually announced his name when he was born, everyone loved it. Or at least they didn’t say out loud if they didn’t!

Choose what you want to choose, everyone will love it when it’s actually your baby’s name. It’s easy to be rude when it’s hypothetical, much harder when it’s the name of your grandchild/nephew/niece

EithneBlue · 28/08/2020 09:28

@peachypetite -- I've been irritated by comments too: not so much on names ("nah we haven't decided on any yet" is my usual response) but just generally people being more intrusive on my life than would normally be socially acceptable. Honestly - people I don't know very well telling me how to live my life has driven me absolutely up the wall.

peachypetite · 28/08/2020 09:32

I’m so glad it’s not just me. I was honestly getting pretty fed up with the constant comments on my bump, where I’m carrying weight (not done maliciously but it is quite intrusive!), names, tips for feeding. Baby isn’t even here yet! I’m actually seeing the positives of social distancing more and more, deffo won’t be having a load of visitors round like people normally expect.

Anyone been getting waken up with leg cramps ?

chubbyhotchoc · 28/08/2020 09:54

@Babyhope98 I had them almost every night with my first. Only twice so far with this one

EithneBlue · 28/08/2020 09:56

@peachypetite - the trouble is society has kind of conditioned us to gaslight ourselves on this: "I must be being oversensitive because of my hormones" -- it's definitely not just you!
Social distancing is turning out to be a fantastic excuse: I guess there has to be at least one perk of pandemic pregnancy!

EithneBlue · 28/08/2020 09:57

@Babyhope98 - not yet. I had to pee twice last night though: not impressed.

Kpm7 · 28/08/2020 10:28

@peachypetite I list lots of names I like even if I am not going to use them and say we like these.
Sometimes I just say we don’t know as we are waiting see what we have before deciding. It’s hard enough for me and the hubby to agree so I have put the name to one side till the baby arrives as I stressed my self so much at the beginning.
I tried to share names with my close people and the comments annoyed me so I stopped.

I know it’s hard as it’s a nice moment and you want to share that joy and have positive comments but some people are just to opinionated these days and don’t consider feelings.

@excitednerves

Which pump did you use that’s my next buy? Xx

CoBell · 28/08/2020 10:52

Hi @babyhope98 - yes to the leg cramps! I get them pretty much every night at least once and have to get out of bed to put weight on my leg! Cramp, hip ache and a couple of toilet trips sums up my nights x

excitednerves · 28/08/2020 10:57

@Kpm7 I used the medela swing. I haven’t used any others so I can’t compare, but I thought it was a good pump.

excitednerves · 28/08/2020 10:58

@Babyhope98 yes to leg cramps! Also, middle of the night heartburn. I forgot these delights of pregnancy

Jellycat2020 · 28/08/2020 11:09

I think I've nearly cracked it for comfortable hips - thick duvet, doubled over with a pillow sandwiched between the layers at the level of my hips, then I lie on top and wrap a pregnancy pillow around me! My husband is very jealous! 😂 However.... I had my Whooping cough vaccine yesterday so I still woke up every time I tried to lie on my left arm 😭 and I needed 2 wees... 😭😭 But no cramps or heartburn for a few days (jinxed it now...)

loobeelou · 28/08/2020 11:20

I keep waking with a dead arm from sleeping on my side 🙁

I like the medela breast pumps, I have used the symphony (hospital grade pump) and I have the freestyle double. I haven't tried any other brands so I can't compare them.
