@Maxdoggy I've been told I won't have any growth measurement done.
I personally think it's a load of rubbish anyway. I was always 4 weeks ahead with no1's size every time and told he'll be big and need extra watching and he was average size. Just scared me throughout!

Wee sample wise you can buy sticks if you're worried?

They're limiting seeing us that's all. I feel for those with first baby as it's all the unknown but I'm lucky I was only in this same position last year 👶🏼👶🏼

@Maxdoggy when I last spoke to my midwife she said it'll be phone appointments until I finally meet her for the 28 week appointment. So far I've seen a midwife once after my dating scan.

Maxdoggy · 26/08/2020 08:34

Thanks for reassurance, ladies.
I will call them today I think as at the moment I have no face to face appointments til 36 weeks which, as a ftm, doesn’t seem great...

Boof87 · 26/08/2020 09:01

@maxdoggy I'm the same. Like you as a FTM its a bit worrying. I had my 16 week app as a phone call and it was about 5mins long asking if i was OK. I mean it was ridiculous. I'm getting my mum to take my blood pressure as she has her own machine. I have a face to face at my 28 week app then the next one is a phone call then anything from 31weeks on onwards is face to face as it stands now. But I feel like im not asking what I should be over the phone and trying to describe pains and bit is really difficult.

Has anyone done any research into classes yet? Do you know if your hosp is holding them?

Maxdoggy · 26/08/2020 09:12

@Boof87
Glad I’m not the only one. I mean, if you can get your eyebrows threaded I’d have thought medical appts might be okay...

Good to hear you have at least a couple of spots face to face. I will see if I can persuade them to see me before 36 weeks.

Re classes, I’ve signed up to NCT which starts at the beginning of November, and thinking of finding a hypnobirthing course if possible. Off to antenatal yoga tonight !

Boof87 · 26/08/2020 09:21

@maxdoggy yeh i was debating doing NCT but have heard the hosp ones are just as good so I guess I will enquire with them

Defo push for a face to face app. I don't understand how they can monitor anything such as blood pressure, urine and growth measurements properly and safely.

Is anyone based south east London?

Maxdoggy · 26/08/2020 10:11

@Boof87 yes! I’m in Dulwich! Where are you?

Boof87 · 26/08/2020 10:19

@maxdoggy I'm in new eltham! Are you at Kings for your scans by any chance?!

dixiedo · 26/08/2020 11:59

@Maxdoggy my midwife called me just before my 16 week appointment and did it face to face although didn't check the heartbeat. I have my 25 week one with her too. I'm in wales too and we seemed behind on everywhere else so it's mad how much it varies.
It does seem neglectful though with a first time mum. Any mum really. I bet so much will be missed 😔

Antenatal yoga sounds fab. Off to google something similar myself. X

Maxdoggy · 26/08/2020 12:19

@Boof87 ah- not far at all! Yes, I’m at Kings- I cant believe how swish the maternity centre they use for scans is, it’s amazing!

I called the midwives reception this morning to ask about appts. I got some bloke on reception whose response was “well, it’s worked for the last 4 months so why would you be any different?!” (Verbatim!).

I was super polite about it so I don’t see how I deserved this response. Not quite sure what to do now...!!

Boof87 · 26/08/2020 12:28

@maxdoggy yeh thats so rude! It is so swish though and they are really nice in there. I had to have a CVS as my chances of the baby having downs went down to 1/33 so I decided to have it done. They managed to squeeze me in the same day and were very reassuring about it all. I know friends who didn't even have their hormones measured to test for any of that so I feel like we are quite lucky in terms of it being a research centre. When is your 20 week scan?

I have also had private scans done just to put my mind at ease as I can get a bit anxious being in the limbo period of not feeling/looking pregnant and not properly showing. If you can afford to have one I recommend it if you are feeling a bit low about it.

Maxdoggy · 26/08/2020 12:41

@Boof87
I had 20 week scan already (am 21+5 now) which was fine.
I’m just not keen on waiting til 36 weeks for my next face to face, so yes, booking a private scan might be a good solution. Good idea!
I guess my husband might be able to come too so that would be a silver lining!

Boof87 · 26/08/2020 12:56

@maxdoggy oh thats exciting! Hope everything went OK.

Yeh there are so many private places around. I went to one yesterday called BabyVue in Orpington which was really nice. I'm only 18+3 and booked a small reassurance scan but the lady showed us the baby in 4D which I wasn't expecting and was so nice (if not a little freaky!) They have also slightly adjusted their prices as they arent printing any pics. I got 32 images and videos on email so you get a lot more. I defo recommend them!

Boof87 · 26/08/2020 12:57

@maxdoggy oh and yes 1 person is allowed to come with you so always lovely for a partner/family member to experience it with you as its so lonely at this time to have scans!

devilliams · 26/08/2020 16:12

I’ve been the same. Only saw my midwife to get blood taken when I was 7 weeks. I’m now almost 21 weeks.
Has anyone had their 20 week scan done by a doctor? I’m due to go tomorrow for mine but received a message to change the time of it as a doctor would like to do it but I’ve not to worry?! X

Maxdoggy · 26/08/2020 17:52

@devilliams My 12 week scan was done by consultant obstetrician (!). Turned out she was basically on work experience as she wanted to have maternity specialism hospitals on her CV. If they told you not to worry, I’d take it at face value! 👍
Hope it goes well; try to enjoy it!

devilliams · 26/08/2020 21:30

@Maxdoggy thank you. He’s a baby doctor that’s been there a long time. But it does appear like it could be something like that. I’ll see what happens tomorrow. Xx

MeganC104 · 27/08/2020 11:58

Hospital ones for me are cancelled currently. I'm in South East. NCT too expensive

Had our scan yesterday and all is well although had to go for a walk half way through as baby was facing the wrong way. Also baby is currently breech but I've been told that doesn't mean anything as maybe will likely move.

Gender reveal this Saturday and I'm 90% it's a boy. Also started feeling proper kicks two days ago and today actually saw it and husband saw too!!

StephS1984 · 27/08/2020 13:41

@MeganC104 does your hospital have online videos of their antenatal classes. I’m in the south coast and my maternity hospital has really good Facebook videos of all the antenatal courses they normally do on their Facebook page. Which I have found useful.

devilliams · 27/08/2020 21:41

Anyone had a painful scan?? Xx

MeganC104 · 27/08/2020 21:56

Mine was a bit uncomfortable when she was trying to nudge the baby but I wouldn't say painful

Pol96 · 27/08/2020 22:05

@devilliams my dating scan felt like it had bruised me for about 4 days

devilliams · 27/08/2020 22:22

I had my 20/21 week one this evening and had a doctor and a trainee. The trainee was brutal. I’ve already started bruising. Got me kinda worried now!! X

Pol96 · 28/08/2020 04:49

@devilliams a friend of mine said her 20 week scan was awful. I don't think it's uncommon as sometimes they push quite hard to do all the checks/get baby to move. If it's really bad maybe talk to your midwife and see if there's anything they can do or suggest anything that may help? Hope it stops soon x

MRSO2017 · 28/08/2020 07:38

Hi everyone! I hope I'm on the right bus! Due at the very end of Jan 31st and currently 17 weeks 5 days based in South West London Smile
