@MotherofKitties I’m in the same boat! Both mine and my husbands parents live 3-4 hours away and so it isn’t practical for them to pop by to see baby from a distance. I spoke to the midwife about this at my last appointment and she essentially said to be strict and tell them they can’t come unless things change and hotels open etc. She said if they do come to visit they definitely shouldn’t be staying with us and should be washing hands and being very careful although she wouldn’t advise them coming at all. It’s so confusing and I don’t want to upset anyone but this is my first baby and it took so long to get her so I don’t want to risk her health! I think we may say to hold off until one or two weeks.

@Beau2020 it’s gorgeous! My pram arrived on Friday too, except the carrycot has gone missing so chasing that up. Regardless it’s so exciting having it in the house! Grin

Has anyone else been getting pressure in their pelvis or bottom?

I've been getting a few Braxton-Hicks hicks today, I'm 32 weeks this weekend.

It's a weird sensation like electric shocks, it's like she's either sitting on some nerves or just being a right pain Hmm

I also think I may have dropped ever so slightly, my partner had noticed too.

Anyone else been feeling like this or maybe it's just me? Xx

sel2223 · 28/06/2020 18:25

@Lottie37 I've had some electric shock type feelings but they tend to be right down in my groin area, always on the left side.
I'm sure it's her kicking or pressing on a nerve and thankfully it doesn't last long. It takes my breath away sometimes.

That's good!!! It's not just me then!! That's exactly how I've been feeling too!! x

squashie34 · 28/06/2020 19:05

@Lottie37 @sel2223 could it be lightening crotch?! 😆 when it's gets me it's like I've been shot in the privates much to my partners embarrassment when we are out for a walk.

Yes could be actually, happens in the car too a lot aswell as walks

What does it mean? xx

cannotmakemymindup · 28/06/2020 19:17

@mable88 I had my brother-in-law in hospital with exactly the same thing but in his CT scan nothing showed up. They thought/think it was a stomach infection. So he just went home with antibiotics and a couple of days bed rest.

@Havlerr I am making my mum self isolate for a minimum of a week before she visits and even then thats after the first couple of weeks.

@Lottie37 no electric shocks but I think I have dropped a little which makes me hopeful I'll get a VBAC. Last time my Dd never engaged, bump never dropped etc,. I didn't even have braxton hicks which I definitely get this time.

MotherofKitties · 28/06/2020 19:32

@Lottie37 sounds like lightening crotch; I'm getting this a lot! It's baby's positioning pressing down on nerve endings or on top of cervix making it feel like little daggers down there - delightful isn't it Doent mean you're imminent, just where the baby is lying.

@Havlerr I might ask my midwife too and see what she thinks, and then give immediate family advanced notice so they're not disappointed/outraged when she's born... given the current situation I think even if people are put out about it they should understand...

@Leigh1989 I'm due on the 31st, but I have a feeling she's going to arrive early as she's my second, or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my behalf!

Leigh1989 · 28/06/2020 19:53

@squashie34

Sorry ladies only just catching up and such a good conversation about seeing relatives after.

I'm with most of you that I want to wait at least 7 days until anyone comes round, grandparents included. We had said this before covid so actually at least we have an excuse now. Both our parents will want to 'help' but are quite full on and I feel like we will feel overwhelmed with it. We want to get to know how to keep her alive ourselves and just have our little bubble. My partners parents are totally on board and understand, my mum however just shrugs her shoulder and says 'hmm we will see about that ' (dad totally understands it too). The worst thing is my mum is a carer so she should know she's more at risk. I'm finding it difficult even bringing it up because I think she thinks I'm joking. She really can't see that we just want to protect little one. She even thinks it's silly that we are shielding as much as we can.

@mable88 sorry to hear about your hubby, sending him wishes for a speedy recovery! At least it's happened now and not a few weeks time!

@squashie34 I agree! I told my mum how I feel about her coming Round and cuddling baby when they arrive and she took it better than I thought, but was still like but I'll wash my hands, wear a mask and I'll only hold them once. It's so sad, but I have to do what I have to do to protect baby. A part of me is like well it's only my mum. But it's not the point, I keep going round in circles!! I'm going to speak to midwife tomorrow, and see what she suggests which I'm sure will be guidance from government.
Murree · 28/06/2020 19:56

I'm quite lucky as there really is only my mum and stepdad as my partners mum lives abroad. I dont mind them visiting as they will he isolating from 1st august (my mum is my back up birthing partner as my OH is NHS)

I have however made the controversial ask that my 2 step kids dont come for their normal weekend stay on the first weekend I'm home with baby. Both their mum and stepdad are frontline NHS and I really just want some privacy to heal and bond.
Luckily my OH is supportive of my request and will just facetime them or maybe take them out for the afternoon... not sure how their mum will take it though!
I just know I will have to shower with the door open for the first week so I can have help if needed and really dont want to be walked in on! Not to mention being able to get accustomed to breastfeeding without being stared at!

Love the pram, we are picking ours up in 2 weeks, getting very real now

2020Aug · 28/06/2020 20:15

I think we might let both sets of parents visit, providing they've been self isolating. I'm mostly anxious if they've been socialising with others/visiting pubs etc so we have told them we wouldn't be letting anyone visit if they've been doing any of that.

I've been getting lighting crotch too - such a weird feeling!

squashie34 · 28/06/2020 20:17

@Leigh1989 do let us know what the midwives say!

KittyKat2020 · 28/06/2020 21:32

I honestly can’t wait for my son to be here! His coming up big and his breach so there’s no discussions over an elective cesarian. I was having growth scans every two weeks since 28 weeks and now at 32 they’ve decided I don’t need that even though his put on lots of weight and are making me wait till 36 weeks for another scan and to make a decision on how I have him. Annoying

Leigh1989 · 28/06/2020 21:34

@squashie34 will do 😊

BabyG08 · 29/06/2020 08:16

Hi, hope it’s okay to jump on 🙈
I’m 34 weeks tomorrow FTM, little boy due on the 11th of August!

I’ve had lightening crotch for a few weeks now, and seems to be getting stronger.

So baby has been measuring normal for the whole of my pregnancy, I had a scan at 32 weeks to check all was ok, (Due to childhood health). They told me he had gone above the 97th percentile weighing approx 5lb 2. I know these scans can be way off but they sent me to have a gestational diabetes test on Friday having posed no risk to it before. Anybody had any experience with gd? Will they start scanning more if I do have it? I’m due a scan at 37 weeks if I don’t have it.

Congratulations on all your pregnancies, it’s not long now ladies! Grin

Bert2020 · 29/06/2020 10:20

@KittyKat2020 there is still time for turning, have a look at spinning babies, I turned dd in week 36.
@BabyG08 Welcome, I have GD but diagnosed early so have had extra scans booked for 28/32/36 weeks. They would refer you normally to the diabetic team at your hospital but the diet they give can be hard to control numbers the GDUK page on Facebook and have a website too is much better imo. If you have got it, try not to panic too much, most do! I cried for near on a week but once you get your head around it, it’s not so bad. Previously I was due to be induced at 38 weeks for other risks but because he is measuring off the scale will now be 37 as things stand but others are normally allowed to go to 40+6. It won’t necessarily mean medication either. Any questions please ask.

squashie34 · 29/06/2020 10:22

@BabyG08 it may also not be GD.. I had a scan last week at 34 weeks and she was weighing 5lb 15oz , so I would imagine was around that size at 32 weeks!

KittyKat2020 · 29/06/2020 10:22

@BabyG08 My baby is coming up huge and I’ve never had diabetes, they did a test for GD and it was normal so it isn’t always linked to GD

Bert2020 · 29/06/2020 10:25

Should have also said it may not be GD as it’s not so common. My first was estimated 11lb and came out at 7lb so I’m taking weights with a pinch of salt!

Oldestchild90s · 29/06/2020 10:27

How come you all know what your babies are weighing at? How come i haven't been told this? 😂

Bert2020 · 29/06/2020 10:37

If you are having a normal pregnancy you generally don’t get extra scans @Oldestchild90s so it’s a good thing! Some trusts have started an extra scan after the 20 @ 36/37 but not many.

JMill13 · 29/06/2020 10:41

@oldestchild90 lady I work with is due a few days after me and knows baby's weight, I asked that exact question. Apparently its if you're measuring big/small (or other such worries appear) when they measure bump they book you in for a growth scan which tells them the weight. I'd love a wee scan from 20-40 weeks with no scan isn't fair 😂

squashie34 · 29/06/2020 10:52

@Oldestchild90s I had to have a growth scan as ive been in with reduced movement and also I've got OC so I'm in every week to be monitored. Apparently within our trust it's procedure to have a growth scan after one period of reduced movement. This is where it showed her leg lengths were off the chart too but me and my partner are both quite short 😆🙈 so I’ve got visions I’m going to give birth to a sumo baby with long legs 😂 but what I wanted to get at was that even with that weight they didn’t say anything about GD as I have no risk factors so it may not be that lovely, just a big baby 🤭 also scans can be 2lb out either way!

KittyKat2020 · 29/06/2020 11:14

Yeah my little boy is currently measuring 5 pound 11 at 32 weeks! They’ve estimated a 9 pound 14 baby 🥵
