Bit of a TMI question but has anyone had peeling nipples in late pregnancy? I mean the kind of teat bit rather than the surrounding Areola? Chunks of dry / hard skin have been coming off mine for the last few days, it’s really freaking me out! What are they supposed to look like when they are ready for breastfeeding? Baby is going to arrive in the next few weeks, worried that my boobs aren’t going to be ready! Confused

Murree · 21/07/2020 14:51

@MaisieMolly could it be dried colostrum? My nipples sometimes leak the tiniest amount overnight and in the morning it can look a little like peeling skin x

MaisieMolly · 21/07/2020 15:07

@Murree oh maybe it could be!! I haven’t seen any colostrum coming out and the dry skin was kind of nipple coloured Blush but will keep checking to see. I might start using some of the nipple cream I’ve bought in preparation for feeling to try to help them out!

Havlerr · 21/07/2020 16:14

@MaisieMolly have you had lots of dry skin in general during pregnancy? My skin used to be oily pre pregnancy but has really dried up a lot whilst I’ve been pregnant, I have loads of little peeling bits which is gross. My nips aren’t peeling as such but are definitely very dry and ashy looking which is apparently normalConfused but like pp said, could also be dry colostrum if you’re producing enough to leak.

Camia · 21/07/2020 17:01

@MaisieMolly I second the dried colostrum, mine have been leaking tons and it looks a lot like peeling skin when it dries. Freaked me out at first too lol

sel2223 · 21/07/2020 18:13

@Fazz44 welcome 😊 when in Aug are you due?

Fazz44 · 21/07/2020 18:30

Thank you ladies Thanks I am due on 17th August.. but am guessing I will go over as everyone keeps telling me lol. I hope you are all having good pregnancies & keeping safe. What advice have you all received from midwife/doctors about family members, friends etc meeting baby after birth?

WeeScottishWife · 21/07/2020 19:18

I have a dumb question, maybe one for people who already have kids Blush
Do you always lose a mucus plug in the early/at home stages of things, or is that something that - like waters breaking - might not happen until later on in things when you're potentially already having regular contractions and/or in hospital?

Basically I'm wondering if that's definitely going to be a sign I should look out for, or if it might not happen after all.

sel2223 · 21/07/2020 19:39

@WeeScottishWife according to my midwife it's worth looking out for but not as a sure fire sign that labour is on its way.

Apparently some women lose it earlier but then it 'grows' back and they lose it again. Some women never notice they've lost it at all (lose it while on the loo for example). Some women lose it while already in established labour. Other times it happens shortly before labour starts and is a sign. So lots of variables.

She told me that the only two 'surefire' signs are contractions and/or waters breaking.

sel2223 · 21/07/2020 19:41

@Fazz44 congratulations. I've not had any official advice from doctors or midwife etc but there was a discussion about this earlier imln the thread and it seems there is no set answer. Everyone is just doing what they think is best. It's so hard!

trinajade · 21/07/2020 19:45

Welcome @Fazz44 I'm due the 16th 😊

@WeeScottishWife with my first I only lost my plug after having a sweep at 39+4. With my second I never lost my plug at all I just naturally went into labour 9 days early and my waters didn't break until I was pushing.

I've had my 36 week midwife appointment today and can't help but feel she just has no interest in her job. I asked if baby was still back to back and she just said I'm not sure really. She said baby is head down so I said is it engaged she said yes so I said fully engaged? She was just sort of like erm well as engaged as its going to be probably. She's just very vague and doesn't seem like she wants to help 😩 sorry for the rant!

Hey @Firstmummytobe any update with you? I hope you & baby are doing well 💙💙

Firstmummytobe · 04/08/2020 10:12

@Newmama29 so lovely of you to ask about us!
Unfortunately Archie was born with a ruptured bowel so had A life saving operation at 1 day old and he now has two stoma bags on his tummy💔 he was born on 15/07 at 5lbs 3 he is so tiny!
He was then diagnosed with cystic fibrosis meaning we still haven’t taken him home yet he is in alder hey, and just yesterday he was also diagnosed with CMV which is congenital cytomegalovirus which can affect the brain and all the senses unfortunately but he is such a little fighter and I wouldn’t have him any other way he is perfect to me❤️

Newmama29 · 04/08/2020 13:47

@Firstmummytobe oh I’m sorry to hear that! It must be such a worrying time for you❤️ He’s so lucky to have such brave & strong parents that love him, that’ll keep him fighting on! You all take care & seem the support you need to get through this❤️❤️
