Hiya, how is everyone? This pregnancy thing is a real waiting game isn't it? Seems to go on forever!

I'm starting to get a bit of back pain and feeling big and super lazy after reading about all you lot doing your exercise so I just did some bum and back strengthening exercises, hoping it will help!

I also got transferred to the home birthing team and got an immediate phonecall from my new midwife who sounds lovely! Really looking forward to my next appointment at the end of the month!

Anyone else have any news? X

Mummykins30 · 13/09/2020 19:44

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Due on Christmas Day and can't wait to meet my little boy 💙

Mycrazylife85 · 13/09/2020 20:10

Hello ladies. I'm due December 13th so I'm 27 weeks. First baby and all was well until about two weeks ago when my back discomfort really ramped you (spine pain and lower back), and the sciatica started back up. Sleeping was practically impossible.

I'm on antibiotics at the moment as they found a small trace of blood in my urine and it's made me feel so depressed. I struggled with UTIs when I was about 18 and it's still fresh in my mind at 35 so I'm in full panic mode. I'm am totally doubting my body's ability to do this and feel really emotional.

None of my friends had ANY discomforts or back pain, none said they peed anymore than usual and all were very active. I pee about once an hour and worry about every thing and back ache, I can't walk too far without knowing I'll be in agony later. I'm petite. I'm so grateful so I don't want to tell anyone

Going to invest in some me time this week and see if that helps. I want so badly to enjoy this and not worry all the time. I'm sure this'll pass.

Welcome @Mummykins30 and @Mycrazylife85

@mycrazylife85 try not to stress and take that you time you’re planning on. I’ve just turned 36 and my sciatica is back too, as well as a lot of lower/mid back pain - not every day but it probably bothers me 2 out of 3 days. I’m still staying fairly active as I think that actually helps my general back pain. If you can’t be active getting out and about then try some core strengthening exercises at home - antenatal Pilates and yoga, or work with a yoga ball. That seems to help my general back pain (and isn’t hurting the sciatica).

And definitely don’t worry about your pee-frequency! Yes it’s annoying but every pregnancy is different and you might just be better hydrated than they were. Could you try some meditation/mindfulness exercises to help with the worries? I haven’t looked into it yet but hypnobirthing courses might help?

Helski123 · 13/09/2020 20:40

Hi @Mummykins30 and @Mycrazylife85 congratulations both!

@Mycrazylife85 sending you some sympathy for feeling rubbish! Definitely take some me time, everyone's pregnancy is different, you're growing a whole new person so it's not surprising that it takes its toll. I really like the sound of the mum to be massage that @Katbaby had. Started dropping hints as it's my birthday next month.

No exciting news for me, I've stopped waterskiing now as I feel my bump is getting bigger and I'm getting more cautious on the water in case I fall. Still trying to keep up with running and swimming but motivation is lacking sometimes.

Also starting to get indigestion. Not fun. Can't eat too late in the evening now and having to have really small portions.

Loving feeling baby moving though and watching my belly move when it does.Trying to enjoy this bit of pregnancy as much as possible now. It feels like it's suddenly starting to go very quickly, less than 15 weeks until due date!!! Eek!!!

Mycrazylife85 · 13/09/2020 21:39

Thank you both @Helski123 @makingababy

I love the sound of the pregnancy massage also so think I'll look into it too. I've also decided I'm going to make an effort to stay off doctor google and also speaking to some of my friends about anything also 😊

Bumble84 · 14/09/2020 09:22

Welcome to the new mums! @Mycrazylife85 I can confirm I pee way more than normal and my back aches something chronic at times so don’t worry you’re completely normal!

For the self employed folk, I was chatting to someone and they said self employed people can claim maternity allowance as opposed to statutory maternity pay. I’m sure you’ll all know about it but just in case I thought I’d mention it.

Did the nurses get work sorted out? A lot of my colleagues are back doing site visits but I’m in the wfh team till I go off. It’s a bit easier in my work because we can split the workload like that right enough.

Mummykins30 · 14/09/2020 13:40

@Mycrazylife85
I'm 37 and have back problems too. I had probs before I was pregnant with sciatica and with my back just ceasing up from time to time to the point I can hardly walk without being in agony. I've had about 4 episodes so far throughout my pregnancy and like you, im always worrying about how it could be later on in my pregnancy when I get bigger (I'm 26 weeks just now). But all we can do is take each day as it comes and try to stay relatively active and hope for the best! I hope you feel better soon :)
Oh, and I also feel I am peeing constantly these days!
This is my second pregnancy (my son is now 10 so a big age gap).
Has anyone had an elective section after having a previousemergency section? I'm having one this time (had an emergency section with my son) and am wondering how you found it in comparison, what to expect when I go in to hospital etc? I'm quite nervous as I felt really panicky during the emergency section and had to have gas and air and diamorphone as well to try and calm down but I think it was probably because it was so unexpected.

calipoppy · 14/09/2020 14:40

Afternoon everyone and welcome to the new mums!

Oh my days I am now 27 weeks and the insomnia/emotion has hit me big time! I am awake 2-3 hours every night and I feel like I'm either a zombie or sobbing during the day! 😂 thought I was doing well escaping the hormonal side of pregnancy but not anymore!!

I also had a panic at the weekend as it's 3 months until my due date and I feel we have so much less to sort, went on a bit of a panic buying spree!

How's everyone else managing emotions wise?

LoveSunshine01 · 14/09/2020 14:48

@Mummykins30 @Mycrazylife85
Have you tried an osteopath? I used to get proper bad back pain like yours mummykins where I couldn't move, but seeing an osteopath regularly gas basically sorted it and they've given me exercises and advice to keep myself strong. I'm now 26 weeks and yes have had some mild back ache but I know how to fix it now/how to strengthen it and I know I can go back if it gets worse.

Mummykins30 · 14/09/2020 15:28

@LoveSunshine01 @calipoppy

Hi, yeah I saw a physiotherapist a few times and she gave me exercises (before I was pregnant) but they don't seem to stop it happening just help in the recovery a bit. If it happens again during my pregnancy I'm definitely going to get another appointment. I'm just hoping it won't now...

@calipoppy it's funny you say that because I was an emotional wreck this morning! I've had a tendency to wake up and worry about things in the middle of the night but this morning those worries led to lots 9f tears :( Hoping it's just a bad day! Xx

LoveSunshine01 · 14/09/2020 15:40

@Mummykins30 yeah I never made much progress with physios either (tried 2 on the nhs). I found my osteopath so much better, but maybe I just found a good one!

Emotionally I've been ok lately, just super duper tired, but have probably been pushing it too much 😅

Yellowbeansontoast · 14/09/2020 19:31

Sorry to butt in everyone - just wondering about the ladies who are going off work at 28 weeks - are you all in health care if you don't mind me asking? I work as a barista in a cafe with lots of old customers and limited social distancing, so feeling quite vulnerable. However, doesn't look like I will be able to leave any earlier as work is refusing to admit there is an increased risk Confused

ElsaCC · 14/09/2020 20:33

@Yellowbeansontoast I'm in a similar situation as I work in a busy restaurant. From what I understand the option to be off work from 28 weeks will be offered by the companies where you can either work from home or they can afford to keep you at home and on full pay. I dont think the hospitality sector will be having that happen unfortunately

Bumble84 · 14/09/2020 20:43

@Yellowbeansontoast a lot of my colleagues are back out doing site visits but because there is work to do from home as well I am being given that to do. I agree that it’s a horrible situation when we are told to take extra care from 28 weeks around social distancing but then your employer expects you to go in. Employer is legally obliged to carry out a risk assessment and make reasonable adjustments. I would ask to see the risk assessment and wonder if there is any other work you can do. Even if it is just to reduce the amount of customer facing work. Or could the employer put extra measures in that protect everyone like screens, more social distancing etc

Nic2908 · 14/09/2020 21:00

So I should have been finishing work on Thursday (I'm a nurse) but now thanks to the pausing of shielding and the lack of guidence for front line workers going into winter i am no longer justified to being at home, I am now being moved to an office... whilst they await guidence on if I can be facing patients in third trimester. Needless to say I will be finding myself a sick note before being patient facing.

viixie · 15/09/2020 17:58

I'm a nurse, 28 weeks next week. It's my last hospital shift on Saturday. I have been given a laptop to take home to work on policies and guidelines

Katbaby · 17/09/2020 17:04

Welcome to the newbies. 🤗

Has anyone started with the exhaustion coming back, I had a lovely albeit very busy weekend away with my husband the weekend just gone and ever since then my energy stores have been next to nothing.

I'm 25+3 now and sooo soo tired! So many jobs need doing in the house and I just can't be bothered to do anything

calipoppy · 19/09/2020 10:46

@Katbaby yes!! We have some friends up this weekend, all we did was have a picnic and then go for a short walk and I slept for ten hours last night! 😂 actually couldn't even think straight by the end of the day haha. Guess it's really time for us to rest again now!

Anyone else starting to get swelling? My left ankle is MASSIVE haha. Looks awful!

december2020 · 19/09/2020 11:17

Would anyone have any recommendations for some maternity gym leggings?

The waistband is starting to get a bit uncomfortable with my normal pairs! And they're pushing on my bladder, making me have to go pee every 15mins!!

makingababy · 22/09/2020 22:41

@december2020 I’m still using some normal fold over gym leggings from Primark, the fold over bit is going over my bump instead 😂. I was in a small H&M the other day and they had various maternity leggings (but not gym specific ones that I noticed). A bigger H&M might have maternity gym ones.

In other news, today is the last day of my second trimester - 27 weeks done tomorrow! It’s crazy how fast the second trimester has gone. @Katbaby I’m not feeling the exhaustion too much yet but I’m sure that’s coming soon - I have noticed that I’m starting to be hungry all day again though 🤦🏻‍♀️

loobeelou · 23/09/2020 06:44

Hi ladies, how is everyone doing? I'm 26+4, feeling fine but also feeling like time is at a standstill! It's like I've been pregnant forever and it's never going to end 🤪😂

On a positive, now we know that baby is a girl, I've had a good sort out of DS clothes (everything from newborn to 12-18m) and passed a load on to 3 friends who either have or expecting boys. Now to go shopping 👍🏼

Hope you are all doing ok.

Bumble84 · 23/09/2020 13:36

Hi, I’m bang on 27 weeks today. Feeling pretty good. Although I did start getting pelvic pain last week, it was constant for two days and quite bad but now it comes and goes depending on how I move/sit so that’s manageable!

Has anyone started ante natal class? I signed up to one online but then they changed last minute to in person. It’s meant to start tonight but I’ve phoned the woman and left a message to say I’m going to cancel. I’m really not comfortable with them being in person even with social distancing. After yesterday’s announcement and I am already in a local authority in Scotland that had the added restrictions.

loobeelou · 23/09/2020 16:41

I have days where my bump feels heavier and more uncomfortable than others, I think it must be depending on how baby is lying.

I'm not in the U.K. so I'm not familiar with how the ante natal classes work there sorry. I can understand why you might be concerned though, given the recent government announcements.

calipoppy · 23/09/2020 17:52

I'm really surprised they're running classes in person! We're starting Nct next Tuesday and I'm so excited! Feeling really ready to start thinking about preparing for birth and the baby being here now.

On that note has anyone started planning their hospital bag? I'm 28 weeks and starting to get the urge to prep!!
