Struggling with the heat here too, best part of 3 hours in the hospital today wearing a mask... The struggle was real!!!

We're in Yorkshire and we had a storm around 5ish, torrential rain, hailstone, thunder and lightening... Lasted 30 mins or so. As soon as it stopped the sun came back out!! 🥵🥵

MilsCookie · 26/06/2020 21:12

🙋🏼‍♀️ I'm really struggling too. Literally been sat in the coolest room of the house all day with a cold flannel on my head. We also have one of those hand held fans that you can fill with water and spray your face with - would definitely recommend. Think you can get them on amazon! Also just seem to have a permanent headache at the moment which is killing me 😣😣😣 can't work out if it's hormones or the heat (probably a bit of both!) x

BecsterG · 26/06/2020 21:15

I'm hating the heat and so is my hair! Frizz central. I'm in Glasgow. We had some rain and a bit of thunder this morning but no real storms and it's not cleared the air. It's meant to rain for the next few days so really hope it clears the air as it's the humidity that is making it hard for me.

@Whiffle77 I'm totally with you on the booze. When it's hot and you're in the garden, having BBQ's etc makes me want to drink. I've had some alcohol free cider and some zero alcohol Prosecco to help. I have had a wee glass here and there of the good stuff. I'd be an alcoholic by now if I wasn't pregnant with lockdown, working with a 3 year old at home all the time and all the sunshine we've had. I'm in Yorkshire as well, but we've had nothing. DM lives less than 20 miles away and they've had a massive storm, including a house set on fire from the lightning!

It's been so muggy today, definitely hotter than yesterday. It's icky 😣 DS and I have spent most of the day hiding in the living room moving as little as possible. I'm having a lukewarm bath to try and get my body temperature down so I can sleep...

Welcome @Ejb86, and congratulations! So lovely to see you joining the group! I've been keeping an eye on the other thread, with fingers crossed for everyone.

I don't usually drink alcohol very often, but I was just thinking earlier I'd love an ice cold glass of wine or fruit cider. I've got yet another brand of alcohol free wine coming tomorrow. All the ones I've tried so far have just tasted like soap to me. Although DH enjoyed them Confused

FireflyGirl · 26/06/2020 21:42

@MilsCookie I had headaches when I was about 12 weeks as well, and I seem to recall I had them last time as well, so it could be either or both.

ChampooPapi · 26/06/2020 22:00

@MilsCookie yes most people get a hugely unlikely result for Edwards and Pataus. Have you googled them? They are very rare conditions that are not compatible with life so very very different from down sydrome. Mine were also 1/100,000 for those for both my twins even though their down sydrome results were wildly different. Which especially makes no sense when you've had the nipt already tell you you have a one in over 10,000 chance of down sydrome for each twin! So the fact one of my twins had a higher risk even though neither of their dna was checked showed the test up to me as the complete guestimate it was. Especially when it comes to these crazy numbers that freak women out as they just seem so random! But your chances are so incredibly low and those results are excellent. Without the nipt for more precise dna testing, or an actual amio or CVS, which could (though rare) result in miscarriage) this is as accurate as it will be. But you are going to be scanned like a demon so you can relax about this stage now. Your results are low risk, and your babies are growing well.

You are going to have to trust your results now until your next anomonly scan which is where they can really identify markers for absolute definate for not only those conditions but other conditions like heart problems or stomach issues ect.

Those three conditions are so unlikely and even more unlikely not to be picked up. I think we do worry so much about them because they are the main ones talked about and in the public conscious, plus they are the big three we are tested for. But actually there are far more babies who have heart issues or growth problems, as well as a multitude of other things that can not develope as it should.

These are now my worries so welcome 🙄😅

Focus that they are bang on their growth pathway, my god that really is the news to celebrate with twins, these bloody trisomy tests cause so much stress and worry, that actually they make this stage unnecessary stressful for so many women like yourself. When a blood test like the nipt on the NHS would solve that for millions of anxious women. Rather then getting these seemingly random numbers however high or low, that confuse everything. Nipt doesn't give you set of numbers see, it uses 1/10,00 for you do not have the conditions or it says your baby very likely has the condition.

Your babies are growing and you are strong enough now to put the results in your folder and not look at them again. Your team is going to look after you so well and monitor everything 🤗

MilsCookie · 27/06/2020 12:15

@ChampooPapi thank you so much - that totally makes sense. So ridiculous that your twins had different results even though their dna wasn't tested - is that just based purely on their NT measurements do you think? I'm definitely going to relax for now - until the next scan at least! When is your 20 week scan? Almost halfway!!! I'm sure your babies are going to be absolutely fine Smile.

@FireflyGirl ahhh that's interesting. I wonder if we get a surge in hormones or something at 12 weeks? I don't have one yet today... fingers crossed it stays that way!

ChampooPapi · 27/06/2020 20:01

@MilsCookie it's from the bloods they took from me that test the Pap a, hcg , then your age and finally the nucal fold. A formula is used and the calculation is then done by a computer and your predicted numbers come out the other end so to speak.

One twin was 1/700 or 1000 and something, I can't remember even though I looked at it to check the folds the other day! the other twin was 1/7746 or some randomness such as that.

So pretty much complete bobbins what the numbers actually mean really. But low risk is low risk so yes, put the paper down and relax for a while. The next scan will loom and the worries will creep back. You are well and truly aloud to switch off from this screening now.

And you may even start feeling a flutter here or there in a few weeks which is so exciting! I still haven't felt anything really, nearly 19 weeks so I think mine are the lazy sort, they are taking their que from me obviously 😏

ChampooPapi · 27/06/2020 20:04

And I really want a ginormous glass of wine! I feel like I would drink it done in one tonight 🙏

Sigh... sparkling water with lemon it is.

Pregnancy actually is really annoying, gratefulness and relief of healthy babies aside, it is real graft being pregnant a lot of the time isn't it!

MilsCookie · 29/06/2020 09:12

@champoopapi when you explain it like that, it really sounds like a completely made up figure that they give you!! But you're right, as long as it's low risk then I'll take that. And just gotta stay positive 🤞🏻 oh and I'm totally with you on the alcohol- I'm desperate for a cold crisp glass of white wine, or a G&T!! 🙈

@TerribleImagination GOOD LUCK for your scan today!! Looking forward to your update and seeing the photos!! Sending you lots of positive vibes lovely 💓💫 xxx

TerribleImagination · 29/06/2020 09:51

Aww thank you lovey @MilsCookie 😘 It’s at 2.25, so a bit of a wait! I’m excited and nervous! xx

Ejb86 · 29/06/2020 11:31

Can I ask your advice ladies? My head asked me to confirm pregnancy with a blood test. Of course, this feels as though she doesn't believe me when I say I'm pregnant. My previous 2 pregnancies I haven't had to confirm.

So I asked my gp about it and they said this is not normal practice and if the school need it then they should contact occupational health. I really don't want to have to confront my boss about it. I don't want to cause issues.

I did contact my union when she first asked and they said that you would hope she'd just take my word for it, but that maybe i should just provide the information.

I'm torn now with what to do. What would you do?

Ejb86 · 29/06/2020 11:32

Good luck @TerribleImagination! X

TerribleImagination · 29/06/2020 11:52

@Ejb86 Thanks lovey 🥰

That’s so strange that your work want confirmation like that! Is there a particular reason for it? Like can you not work while you’re pregnant and they’re being weirdly awkward about the proof they want?

MilsCookie · 29/06/2020 11:53

Just try to stay distracted until the time comes @TerribleImagination - I know it's easier said than done! But you've waited so long for this day - only a few more hours to go now until you see your precious one ❤️

@Ejb86 I was asked for proof by our school secretary as well! Not a blood test but I had to show something so I took a photo of the letter from the hospital confirming my 12 week scan (I already had that as I didn't tell them until I was 8 weeks). I think it's outrageous that they don't take our word for it but I'm leaving at the end of August anyway so I didn't want to cause a fuss and just sent it. It's horrible though - makes it feel like they don't trust you 😞 xxx

Ejb86 · 29/06/2020 11:58

@TerribleImagination I have to work from home due to Covid-19. And I am working, i have a long list of things to do.

@MilsCookie I don't have any appointments yet. I'll be having a 6 week scan, do I just send details/pics from that, do you think?

Whiffle77 · 29/06/2020 12:00

Hi @Ejb86 what does your maternity policy say? Mine asks for me to confirm my expected start date of mat leave and send through my mat1b form, but this only has to be before week 25. I have not been asked for any evidence yet, why would it matter? Unless they wanted proof about your time off for appointments? I would speak to your head and be honest and say the doctors refused to do this (especially at the minute when they are limiting footfall in hospitals!!) And propose something more reasonable like @MilsCookie has provided - a photo of your maternity notes or scan letter for instance, when you get those. You dont need to be confrontational about it, but if the doctors wont do the test then it is what it is! I would mention it to your union again too. My boss didnt ask for proof but did ask if it was planned?!
Good luck today @TerribleImagination

Whiffle77 · 29/06/2020 12:01

Footfall in doctors I mean, applogies

Ejb86 · 29/06/2020 12:02

@Whiffle77 it will be something similar to yours. I think it's the strange circumstances with Covid that has changed things though.

TerribleImagination · 29/06/2020 12:33

@Ejb86 Sorry that’s what I meant, not being physically in school rather than not working 🙈 Yeah I’d say what @MilsCookie provided her school sounds like all you can do really! Unless they want to see you pee on a stick 😂 It’s such an odd one, especially as they haven’t asked you for proof before!

Whiffle77 · 29/06/2020 12:44

As long as you follow your policy then @Ejb86 I wouldn't worry too much, they cant force you to do anything else - just tell them what the doctor said.

MilsCookie · 29/06/2020 14:33

Ooo when is that scan @ejb86 ? Yes I would explain to them that the doctor won't do a blood test at the moment, but you're going for a scan at 6 weeks and would they accept the notes from that as proof?

@Whiffle77 I can't believe they asked you if it was planned?! I don't think that's really any of their business!!

@TerribleImagination thinking of you lovely!!! 🤗 💞

Whiffle77 · 29/06/2020 16:03

I know @MilsCookie especially as he knew I had had time off recently for a MC! I think in reality he was just taken by surprise when I stopped it in the end if a conversation and didnt know what to say so I wasnt offended, but still...almost as bad as asking who the dad is 😂

TerribleImagination · 29/06/2020 16:48

Scan went so well! We have a perfect and very wriggly little baby (hence the blurry scan pic 😂) ❤️

Measuring 12+1 so due date 10th January!

Hullo - I’m new here, mind if I join? TTC for last two/three years MCs in October 2018 and October 2019. Now about 10wks by my calculations so trying not to get my hopes up too much but hoping that third time’s the charm...
