You might be able to tell by now I worship sunscreen 🙏😎

ChampooPapi · 19/07/2020 21:26

And finally invest in a very wide brimmed hat! Being in the shade is your friend now 🙂

MilsCookie · 19/07/2020 23:12

@ChampooPapi how do you know so much about everything?! I love it haha, you always answer all my queries! I feel like you're my PA 🤣 I do wear a factor 50 on my face every day, but it's probably not a very good one - the La Roche Posay Anthelios one. Which was the one recommended by the skin cancer dermatologist? Also is there anything we can do to help fade it or is it just with time? 🤔

@BecsterG glad you're managing to be more productive and have had a bit of time to yourself! Have you got anything nice planned for your time off? Sorry you're having bad reflux... what's this about a hairy baby though?! 😆

@Whiffle77 @AlviesMam sorry you girls have it too! It's so annoying! 🤦🏼‍♀️

BecsterG · 20/07/2020 07:49

@MilsCookie it's an old wives tale. If you have lots of heartburn they say you'll have a hairy baby! Ha ha however heartburn/acid reflux is common because of everything being pushed upwards. Geez hope I don't have it until the end now.

*Only perescription strength retinol, hydroquinone bleaching 4 percent or higher (also only prescription) or laser treatment actually fades these marks if you don't wear a factor every day, even on a very cloudy one.

It will fade a lot when you've had the baby, it's very much linked to hormones, but our skin does change when pregnant and becomes more sensitive to environmental factors so definitely invest in some decent mineral or a physical sun block (the chemical ones contain really unpleasant ingredients)*

@MilsCookie

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 08:25

@MilsCookie the heliocare one was recommended by two dermatologists I've seen over the years. Preferably don't get the tinted one as it is a bit orange in colour. The gel although it looks tinted actually isn't it's just it's colour, although anything from the heliocare range is great and affordable. A decent zinc oxide one for the face as well is very good as its an actual physical barrier so no harmful chemicals soak into your skin, the shit they out in suncream even piz buin ect is really nasty, though obviously it's still better then wearing non as the most harmful thing to our skin of all is the sun and UVB Ray's, which your skin is experiencing even indoors so you need to be religious about the sunscreen thing 😎

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 08:37

@MilsCookie I usually alternate between one day of heliocare and then use a completely natural one the following day. I use it 365 days a year on my face as recommended by every single specialist I have seen.
You will still absorb vitamin D from other parts of your body, and just being outside even with the factor on your face will allow vitamin D to penetrate as no sunscreen is 100 percent and as time ticks away it becomes less effective, this is why it MUST be re applied to your face every 3 hours 👍

The natural ones are great cupboard staples as the kids can use them and it becomes part of your routine with them over the sunny late spring and summer months, which teaches them sun sense which is so important. Pigmentation aside, it's about skin cancer essentially, any changes in moles or marks are not your skin 'tanning' it's your skin going into overdrive producing excess melanin through thinking it is being damaged. A lot of my family also live in Australia and this is what they teach kids from a really early age, the have free sunscreen booths on the beaches ect to apply to people, or that people can just freely use. They now have some the lowest diagnosises of skin cancer in the world. Which for a country where it's sunny and 35/40 degrees all years round, that's down to their skin care drive. They have some great natural sunscreens too, which are reef safe and free of plastic micro-particles, which are also incredibly harmful to marine life.

Here in the UK we have a absolutely huge issue with skin cancer, especially on the face, alot is probably the 70s coming back to haunt our parents generation who covered themselves in baby oil and lay out sun worshiping whenever sun was visible!

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 08:41

We probably all should have actually listened to baz lurman way back in the 90s right! 😆

ChampooPapi · 20/07/2020 08:51

@MilsCookie and i think La Roche Posay is fine, I don't know what's in it but it won't be anything worse then heliocare potentially. Perhaps just grab a zinc one too and just reapply more, and stay out of the sun, and wear a hat. I promise it really will fade a lot over time after you've had the baby, but it isn't immediate. It can take up to a year post partum to see the effects of the fading of melesama, or more. I'm just super unlucky as I have very fair skin that gets pigmentation anyway so post natal treatment wise I do always hit the retinol and laser to just kick start it all. I do remember travelling in west Africa however pre kids and putting olive oil on my face 😬 the foolishness of youth! So a fair amount of mine is also sun damage from those years, as well as genetics ect.

Melesama CAN also be made worse by IPL laser so it's definitely worth waiting a good six months after labour before attempting anything radical like this. But it can also be really helpful.

But as Baz says, wear sunscreen no matter what, and I can't imagine you'll ever have to resort to any extreme measures like I have

Any scans today happening? I'm sure someone is having one this week?

TerribleImagination · 21/07/2020 09:47

Thanks for the updated list @ChampooPapi 😍 I’ve got our private gender scan on Sunday, woohoo! Can’t wait!

My bump has popped in the last week too, which I’m so happy about! I’m obsessed with it haha, I can’t stop touching it!

How’s everyone doing?

Ljm0101 · 21/07/2020 10:13

@ChampooPapi I have my early scan on Saturday and I think @Ejb86 had hers on Friday. I'm so excited/nervous xxx

ChampooPapi · 21/07/2020 10:41

@TerribleImagination oh my god so exciting! Such a lovely thing to do, definitely breaks up the 8 weeks between the 12 and 20 week scan too. I should think your partner can join you for your twenty week one, different hospitals different rules but seeing as it's another 4 weeks or so down the line I think you've got a good chance ☺️

@Ljm0101 it is just so nerve wracking, there's not much you can do then tick off those days but suddenly it will be this time next week and the scan will have been done and been perfect and all will be well 🌈👣

MilsCookie · 21/07/2020 11:44

@ChampooPapi thanks so much for all the info! I will definitely look into the heliocare one. I'm the same - I used to love tanning and would also wear sun cream but I think I just laid out in it for too long without really covering my face. Im sad that I'm never going to have a tanned face again but would also rather have healthier skin! Also, that YouTube video was amazing, so motivational! I might just watch that every morning when I wake up to kick start my day haha. Definitely sounds like he knew what he was talking about back then! 😆
Yay thank you for doing the list - these weeks seem to come round so quickly?!

I have my 16 week scan tomorrow 😬 so so nervous about TTTS beginning. Will try to update you all tomorrow but I might be a mess if something looks wrong.

@TerribleImagination yayyyy to the bump! You'll have to post a bumpie (if you want to!) 🥰 and so exciting you're finding out the gender! I'm hoping they'll be able to tell me tomorrow too! Except my partner can't come in so I'm hoping if I phone him they'll tell us both at the same time (it says they don't write it down on the website 😞)

Good luck with your scans this week ladies @Ljm0101 @Ejb86 will be thinking of you both xxx

MilsCookie · 21/07/2020 11:45

*would always wear - not also!

ChampooPapi · 21/07/2020 11:51

@MilsCookie I thought you had another this week, are yours all on Wednesdays? Mine are all Tuesdays until the month of due date. It's a big day for you, it must be unbelievably worrying, but keep the faith and keep listening to Baz, it will never fail to give you that boost, it's a beautiful message ☺️💞

ChampooPapi · 21/07/2020 11:55

Enjoy your body

use it every way you can...

don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it

it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own

Testify Baz 🙏

Ejb86 · 21/07/2020 14:13

Yes @Ljm0101 mine is on Friday morning, when I think I'm 7+6. Think I'm probably going to have to go completely alone as my little boy is full of cold. Either that or hubby and lb come along and both wait in the car. How far along will you be on Saturday for yours?
