Wow I can’t believe how many on here are having twins!!

ChampooPapi · 17/06/2020 11:12

Hey @emma911030 welcome to the thread lovely. Trust me, your little boy is at the most difficult stage, I've got two others so I've been through that phase twice. Lots of stuff about the terrible 2's but from my experience they are so much easier when they reach 2, I think 18 months is a really hard stage for them because they are developing so much but are still a bit crap at walking and talking so they get sooo frustrated. 2 onwards is an absolute dream. Your going to be fine, trust me 🥰

@RunnerGirl123 let us know when you an how today goes 💗

@excitednerves you are going to love that buggy like it's your own child, and you can get a buggy board at some point too in the more distant future and use the other side for shopping. They do a smart compartment addition for the other side to put stuff in. I just love the amount of mountain buggy stuff you can get second hand because so many people have them, it's a dream situation really. You need something, you either Gumtree or ebay it, and you've got it within a few days for the fraction of the price. Plus the wheels mean you can actually go over anything pretty much without getting stuck, it got the style and the substance. They are beasts 🙏

So I've just had a call from the screening midwife. The chance of Down's syndrome has come back as 1-51. Was half expecting it as I will be 39 when the baby's born but still a shock. I know that I don't want to terminate but I have to go into the clinic this afternoon with my husband to see the midwife to discuss the next steps and results in more detail. Grateful they are allowing him in with me

Best of luck today @RunnerGirl123 I'm thinking of you

Awkes · 17/06/2020 11:21

Glad I’m not the only one @RestorationInsanity! My midwife went on about meeting other mums to talk to etc and I get that (it’s why I’m on here) but I’m sure I can meet plenty of people at baby groups once he/she is here. Really not all that social anyway tbh. All I’ve heard from people is that the classes are great but don’t really talk about the negatives or things that can go wrong and I’m a “prepare for the worst hope for the best” sort of person

ChampooPapi · 17/06/2020 11:21

@Amyyy1 so good to hear and only a few weeks really until your 20 week scan now. Yes no bookings for me except my next on at 24 weeks midwife wise. She said she will do them after each 'seshion'. Yours seems great and having a midwife you trust is golden, I am really pleased you felt you could talk to her

ChampooPapi · 17/06/2020 11:26

@confused107 oh gosh, I'm really sorry to hear that. Im imagining a harmony test will be offered, for free obviously, that will determine a very clear result, though it's still not diagnostic even though it tests the blood dna. So the 100% option is amio or CVS. I think it's very unlikely your little one had down sydrome as the NHS testing is just pure guesswork really at this stage before the 20 week anomonly scan. It produces false positives all the time. Worrying and stressful for you as it is so unlikely but you will still now of course want to be certain so you can plan and gain as much information and knowledge about the condition. This is why the NHS should abandon their screening test and replace with the nipt. Its so much more accurate and would save so much worry. But you don't know for sure now until further testing, so hopefully they will offer the nipt blood test screening 🤞

Thanks for the information @ChampooPapi I think that if the harmony test isn't offered we will pay for it. I'm not keen on the amino or anything that has a risk or miscarriage. It won't affect our decision to proceed, but I would like to be prepared and to prepare those around us to. On the phone she said the real chance was 1.9% and as far as I'm concerned we have beaten the IVF odds to get this far

ChampooPapi · 17/06/2020 11:32

@excitednerves

Carrycot converts to parent facing seat Includes clips to fasten to chassis frame of Mountain buggy duet for either left or right. Comes with rain cover. Condition is immaculate

It's a steal 👣

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 17/06/2020 11:37

@confused107 exactly, no risk at all with the nipt and pretty much 99.9 percent results for down sydrome that way so they really should be offering that to you. I think it's standard for them too with any results under 1/150 now. It's unbelievably unlikely that your baby has the condition. It's much more likely a woman given much higher odds end up having a baby with downs, they way they screen is so old school now the nipt has completely superseded anything the conventional NHS screening can tell you. Then your twenty week scan will no doubt confirm that your baby is perfectly healthy and developmental wise hitting all the markers they need, and you need , for reassuence. You just need the information don't you! I'm so glad your partner is able to come, you need him there lovely 💜

OP posts:
RestorationInsanity · 17/06/2020 11:53

@confused107 so sorry about this extra worry. As @ChampooPapi says, I'm sure everything will be fine, and as you know how you want to proceed, whatever the outcome, you'll have the extra info. Did you have the nuchal translucency test during your scan? Did that flag anything?

confused107 · 17/06/2020 12:07

@RestorationInsanity unfortunately they couldn't measure as the baby was in the wrong position and they couldn't get it to lie flat. On of my questions this afternoon is going to be if it's worth having another go at measuring that so it just went on the quad blood test

RunnerGirl123 · 17/06/2020 12:14

Thanks all for your kind wishes, will try update when I can 💕.

@Confused107 sorry to hear about your screening result, but I'm glad they're following it up quickly and letting your oh come with you to the appointment. I hope you come out with a plan on next steps for any testing you decide to do. The chance is still really small, even though you are high risk, but I understand this is a worrying time regardless.

EithneBlue · 17/06/2020 12:38

Good luck @RunnerGirl123 - I'll be thinking of you.

Sorry to hear they came back high risk @confused107 - I think your logic of paying for the NIPT (if not offered) and avoiding amnio sounds sensible: good luck for your appointment today.

excitednerves · 17/06/2020 12:48

Thanks @ChampooPapi. The seller thinks they have the carrycot plus, but she’s going to check. We pick it up tomorrow so I’ll check, but thanks, this is brilliant!

EithneBlue · 17/06/2020 12:49

Is anyone else still stuck in the hot humid phase of weather? I really really want it to rain :(

I think I might be dehydrated today - I've felt wooly-headed all morning and hardly achieved anything. I'm on my second big bottle of water and only just starting to perk up a bit (but I've resorted to working with my laptop in bed like a true professional).

ChampooPapi · 17/06/2020 13:08

Anyone wanting some inspiration or just some nosing around other people's nursery's then look no further 🙏

@EithneBlue It's been thundering here all day so I am hoping the rain will start soon and bring down the humidity! I have been living on rocket ice lollies atm🤣

Kj1010 · 17/06/2020 14:18

@confused107 sorry to hear this positive thoughts I to worried as I'm 41 years of age overweight etc but mine came back 1 in 484 chance so im classed low risk but the comment that women with higher score are probably more likely to have a downs baby has now knocked my confidence but like you I would still proceed with pregnancy either way I agree with you ask them to do another scan and test neck if they cudnt first time as that does help with final readings I'll will stay positive for you that they come back low risk xx

Kj1010 · 17/06/2020 14:18

@runnergirl123 thoughts with you today and positive ones at that xx

@ChampooPapi I love the feet emoji - it means I can find the thread so easily.

Meanwhile after a supremely unproductive day I finally settled in to doing the work I had set aside my day for ... annnd my laptop crashed. Typical 😂
