Anyone who’s had a phone appointment at 16 weeks, does the midwife ring at any time?

I was due to have one today at 9:30 but so far not had the call just wondering how long I should wait before ringing. But even then I don’t know who I’d need to call. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My DH had actually started doing less around the house, I think he thought because I was here all day and he still has to go out to work that i would do everything, had to remind him that I am actually working from home 9-5. We have also changed our routine with my stepkids whilst they have been off school so instead of our usual 3 nights a week they are here for 2 weeks and with their mum for 2 weeks so I'm also adding in helping with schoolwork and refereeing their never ending fights when they are here, role on August and schools reopening 😁

How do people cope with 3 door cars? My we've just tried a base and car seat in my mums car who's planning to look after her one day a week and it's literally impossible to strap the child in as you can't get to the seat whatsoever. The only option would be to get in the car from the opposite side but because the roof is low it means physically climbing into the car and sitting down next to the car seat to strap the child in 🤯. She won't be in a position to buy a new car as she's retired now and I wouldn't expect that of her anyway. Would the only option be the front seat, air bag off and belted without isofix?!

MeandSpud · 24/06/2020 19:11

Is anyone else suffering badly with heartburn? Mine woke me up at 2am on Sunday night and has barely ceased since. I've used A LOT of Gaviscon and drunk a lot of milk and the pain is still reducing me to tears multiple times a day. I was on medication for heartburn/reflux for 10 years, until the end of last year, so was expecting this, but it's absolutely debilitating! Anyone got any tricks up their sleeve to ease it? I'm finding walking around helps a bit, as does bouncing on a birthing ball, but the relief only lasts a few minutes at a time and I just don't know what else to do with myself!

SqidgeBum · 24/06/2020 19:14

@LozEliza yes I think if you cant get the baby into the seat in the back your only option would be rear facing seat belted in with the airbag off.

Crispaddict99 · 24/06/2020 19:47

@wannabebump I think we'll wait for a surprise. It hasn't stop me looking at the scan pic and video on repeat today trying to work out whether it looks like a girl or boy!! 😂

Fredthespider · 24/06/2020 20:30

@LozEliza are you looking at the infant carriers that slot into an isofix base, or a fixed seat? If it's an infant carrier you can strap them in and then just slot the seat into the base so it's a bit easier, but the seats are heavy and it may be really awkward. For next stage we've bought a Joie 360 spin so if needed we'd be able to buckle in facing forwards and then turn around to be rear facing. I'd recommend this facebook group if you need some more advice - www.facebook.com/groups/289434267864378/ they have quite a few posts about 3 door cars and the suggestions/pictures are usually quite helpful.

LozEliza · 24/06/2020 20:42

@Fredthespider thanks I think we've decided we'll probably go with a 360 car seat for her car and then like you say hopefully she'll be able to strap her in then swivel 🤞🏼 I feel much more relaxed if she can have her in the back rather than the front

littlegem84 · 24/06/2020 20:58

@lipstickandgin there is indeed! If you add me: www.facebook.com/gemma.howe.12 and I'll invite you (it's a secret group so no one can see you've joined)

Don't suffer in silence! Give your GP a call, I had this dreadfully last time and I was prescribed omeprazole which completely cured it. I didn't even need a face to face and there are a few different options that you could try. You absolutely don't need to worry about that at the moment 😀
Sweetpea1985 · 24/06/2020 21:48

Just found this online which could be very handy ladies. I've been too worried to venture very far without knowing if I can go to the loo, so for me this is priceless 🤣😊

@2019mama I hope you managed to get hold of your midwife. I had my 16 week appointment over the phone but she had given me a time as it was meant to be face to face originally and called pretty much on the dot. We spoke for literally 3 minutes though, it was just the blood results were excellent, really good iron, any questions? I told her I was anxious so manage to book a face to face for my 25 week appointment so will be nice to finally meet a midwife!

littlegem84 · 24/06/2020 22:00

@Sweetpea1985 this is more valuable than gold!!

Becca65 · 25/06/2020 08:49

Wigglebum87 · 25/06/2020 09:54

Has anyone got any comments on the babylo cozi sleeper? Would you recommend?

Sweetpea1985 · 25/06/2020 10:01

@wigglebum87 I did look at it, it was ok. The mattress was quite firm though and if you need it to move easily I wouldn't go with it because it doesnt have wheels. I was looking at the other babylo one I cant remember the name though but they didn't have any in stock and I found a chicco on offer anyway.
But no, it does what it says on the tin, its somewhere for baby to sleep, and bigger than a moses basket and for the price it's not bad.

SqidgeBum · 25/06/2020 11:03

Just as we are all chatting about buying things for baby to sleep in, this just popped up on my facebook page. It's good to know

Oh wow @SquidgeBum that is good to know. We had a sleepyhead for DS that we only ever used for (supervised) downstairs naps during the day and I was planning to use it again. The base is flat but it is obviously a pod/nest and padded all round so I guess it’s a no no?!

SqidgeBum · 25/06/2020 11:19

I personally would go by the lullaby trust. I just always stick to the basic idea of a flat surface, nothing in the cot or basket, and if they are in a blanket I wrap in under the baby like a burrito. I didn't have a pod or anything like that. I just bought a bassinet for downstairs with a mesh surround that I could see her through. We moved it upstairs when she grew out of the moses basket. I didnt know about pods being an issue, but I guess I can see how they would overheat.

HarrietM87 · 25/06/2020 11:31

Yep the lullaby trust is the safe sleep bible. They’ve obviously updated their advice because when I had DS they said those things were fine for supervised sleep and just not overnight. Tbh DS rarely used it anyway because he slept on me most of the time, but I was hoping I’d get a bit more use out of it this time as obvs won’t be able to sit around holding the new baby this time with a toddler to look after! The pram carrycot can be a good solution but we don’t have one of those either...I might see if I can borrow a Moses basket and get a new mattress for it.

littlegem84 · 25/06/2020 11:36

@ourlittlepumpkin I've PMed you

SqidgeBum · 25/06/2020 11:42

I bought a moses basket second hand for 15 quid and bought a new mattress online. Worked out cheap. The bassinet was new but I bought a mattress for that as it didnt come with a comfy one. I think I paid 60 for the bassinet on amazon and 60 for the mattress, but to be honest, anything flat with a bit of space will do. You just need somewhere to pop them down when your toddler wants to sit on your lap or you need to cook the dinner.
